The Witcher 3 will likely have the best graphics yet (New Screenshots)

Looks awesome Dennis. I'm looking to playing this with all the bells and whistles at 1080P and super smooth 30fps.

On my PS4.

The PS4 will not have all the bells and whistles.

Tessellation and better post-processing will also be part of PC's ultra specs.

Jesus Christ. Too early for Meltdown of the year?

If this is the 'meltdown of the year' for you, then you've not spent much time on GAF. lol.

Stupidity is incredibly infuriating to me, however.
Yeah, still screenshots of Unity don't capture the awful pop in, NPCs who randomly change clothes and clip with the world, flickering textures, broken LOD and a ton of other problems.

It really doesn't. Unity plays well with screenshots. Just not... With the whole 'being a videogame' thing.
Lol, those videos and screens are NOTHING like the Pre-E3 trailer.
It's a fact.

Your obsession with downgrades is honestly worrying, Snake.

Do wait for the game to be out and compare the same places back-to-back to be sure. Some parts of a game is a lot prettier than others, that's just how it is.

And jeez, meltdown my arse. People just say the same dumb shit in every single thread about every single game that isn't Unity or The Order, because the only thing that apparently captures the attention of a lot of GAF is screenshots.

It tends to get a teeny tiny bit annoying.

I really don't want to be "that guy", but I haven't really been impressed with the most recent screenshots/videos they've shown. Doesn't quite "pop" like the original screens and images unvelied:

Not saying that the most recent stuff looks: "bad", but the older ones look better (some by a good margin).

Is OP joking?, DA:I already looks better than W3 :/

Ehhhh. I don't really agree. Based on 100+ hours in DAI, I'd say those gameplay videos of TW3 look quiet a bit better. Having a completely open world with a dynamic time of day really helps sell it, too.

And (and this has less to do with graphics) the world in TW3 looks alive. Dragon Age feels too much like a game and less like a world. There are no AI routines at all. People just kinda stand around. Also, the mechanics in TW3 seem like they'll allow for at least SOME emergent gameplay which is completely lacking in Dragon Age. Hopefully the next Dragon Age will have a seamless world.

Lighting seems to have taken a hit compared to earlier material but the videos look much much better then the new screenshots.

Gameplay screams good old traditional Witcher-y. So that pleases me.

I don't see it reaaaally far ahead of TW2, or last gen for that matter. Scope matters, I suppose. Still, hey, we at the time in that almost every game looks "good" so gimme! The Witcher series is like no other and will be throughly missed.

According to the QA in the vid, the recorded gameplay is on High graphics settings, and not Ultra.

So guys, do calm down about graphics and downgradeathons and all that jazz. Especially without getting the facts beforehand.
So now I have an "obsession" for downgrade too, just because I said MGSV looks different (and it looks) from TGS 2012 trailer, seeming a bit downgraded in some sections (the ground).

But Witcher 3 IS downgraded from Pre-E3 trailer. It's a fact. All other buildings look different from this one and from some of the latest screenshots.
Did I say the game looks bad? No.
But is very different, more...cartoonish? But of course DIFFERENT from other building. And this is not a case like MGSV, since anyone can see that.
The game still looks great and impressive for a free roaming, open world title.
I only pointed is not like other builds CDPR showed.

I was kidding man, you know I love ya' <3

But yeah, being on 'High' probably explains some of it. Ofcourse, optimisations and fixes have to be made, sometimes they worsen the visuals to an extent, and sometimes they'll have a slightly better rig at some shows than at others, etc etc. There are just so many variables involved, y'know?

Regardless, I'm just happy that my eyes don't deceive me and that it still looks absolutely fabulous.

On another note, I recall someone comparing the (possible) downgrade of TW3 to that of Watch Dogs like a few weeks ago.

I cried a little.

I agree with you here. I have this suspicion that when the Ultra preset is finally revealed, that it will look very close to the early previews we all gushed over. I can't wait to see it and hear what it will take to run it.

In the meantime, the game does still look pretty amazing.

Why does it seem like every game is taking lessons from watch dogs when it comes to marketing? The game now doesn't even look that bad, its a shame they had to overhype it so much.

The game looks great indeed!
But I'm a little disappointed that it evidently doesn't look as good as the first trailers and bullshots (yeah, that explains it)

I'd still give AC Unity the edge graphics-wise, even with its problems, the game looks spectacular and has some really nice tech going on. But let's wait for the final game to give proper judgement

I already bought the game, anyway, and if the game turns out to be good as Witcher 2 is, I will happy with this.
I still need to replay 2, soon or later. I tried, but Steam cloud killed my save replacing it from a 2012 save :l

Aw, that sucks man. I'm going to try a new playthrough picking the other 'big' path to see what happens. I too have the game already, but only on GOG. Figured I'd get the Steam version when I buy the Collectors Edition, hah.

Still slightly miffed that the Xbone CE is beefier than the rest, though.

Honestly, neither my anus nor computer is ready for them to show off Ultra properly with specs included.

I do think I'll enjoy playing this game downsampled in half a decade though! ;)

Not saying that the most recent stuff looks: "bad", but the older ones look better (some by a good margin).

Ultra settings for the PC versions were not shown, just "High", which is apprently looking better than the PS4 - so basically wait for the "Ultra" preset demos and then decide if it is completely wrong.

Either way, if they do achieve those graphics at ultra, it is another situation of messaging correctly what should be expected per platform, than just showing off the highest end stuff. However this has been an ongoing issue for years in marketing of these games, and people don't seem that bothered than to "hype" the graphics regardless

The different scabbards and outfits are looking solid! Great designs. Too bad the graphics on PS4 won't be as good as in those pictures, I hope the scabbards and outfits are as clear and detailed as in the pictures.

RPS gameplay thoughts

RPS thoughts on gameplay. RPS is one of the few websites i do take seriously since they have a lot of my preferences.

What stood out of the write up.

That’s not to say the combat is bad, just bland. When I entered into the climatic fight with the griffin, a battle that had been looming for a solid hour, I was saddened that my heart didn’t race once during this deadly showdown. The beast would fly into the air while I shot my crossbow at its backside and then crash down to earth with violence on its mind. I experimented a little, using one sigil to stun it, another to set a trap around it, and I died plenty as I figured out the best way to success, but the fight never grabbed my attention. When I finally triumphed, it was with relief rather than joy, as I happily set out to listen to people’s reactions to my conquest.

I guess this is the norm from most places i have read thoughts from. At least it doesn't seem to be as bad as the previous games.

The Witcher 3 is a setting that I want to explore, and it begins with characters who are more than soulless puppets. Maybe when I play the finished game come May, I’ll turn my Geralt into a pacifist who does nothing but chatter with the locals and dive for treasure.

I am excited to get into the world tho. I hope they really go out to reward exploration and adventuring into the wild.

If GAF made idiocy a bannable offense, we'd lose the majority of people in this thread.

I wish it was bannable.

Seriously, if you compare this to Unity you're nothing short of an idiot. Static lighting is in no way impressive, nor is wonky gameplay, a broken POS of a game and shit performance with awful pop-in. The Witcher 3 looks as good as Unity, and it's unlikely to be as fucking broken. And the worst thing about Unity is how sodding static everything is. So please.

If you compare it to The Order...

Well, are you fucking stupid? A linear corridor shooter that has nothing going for it except for it's looks, and even has an awful screen res? Holy. Shit.

Get your shit together people.

edit: And please for the love of god quit it with the idiotic downgrade comments. Wait for the game to be sodding released before you make that kind of ridiculous, un-factual statement.

It's really not that hard to wait with such a judgement until you have the facts.

You're blaming people for jumping to conclusions while doing the same for The Order 1886. You are the definition of a hypocrite.

I'm simply going by what has been said by the press that's played it. Even if we take gameplay out of the equation, we still have a game which utilises black bars to reduce the amount rendered, and it doesn't look that amazing visually.

edit: And what I'm really 'blaming' people for is going off the rails with ridiculous comparisons and blatant hyperbole. Really didn't mean to jump to conclusions, however. Apologies.

Regardless it sums up my general feelings on a lot of the silly stuff we see in all of the threads we have for TW3 and a lot of other, similar games. People go cuh-razy over the tiniest changes and comparing games to 'their' champion. It's tedious and annoying.

And again, apologies for going overboard myself.

I like how it looks (hopefully it will somehow run on my computer) but I wish the prostitutes had more tasteful clothing

I mean you can call it fake, or accuse devs of tricking you and the audience, but the reality is most likely just what ShaiKhulud said.
Optimizations happen during a development cycle and you need to sacrifice graphical fidelity in order to get the game running on more machines. It's simply impossible to nail the engine 2 years in advance, especially when working an such a massive game as WItcher 3.

I wish some GAFfers would finally shake this weird downgrade mentality.

Then find someone else to point the finger at because I'm not part of the "weird downgrade mentality."

I was just responding with my opinion of what ShaiKhulud said. I don't really care what sacrifices CDPR made to release the Witcher 3 because I'm not a diehard fan of theirs or the Witcher series; I really only care about how hard they've been pushing their employees.

For what it's worth, I agreed with your statement about people jumping to conclusions. It just wasn't fair to call them out while shitting on an other game yourself. Unfortunately, these things keep happening. Witcher, Uncharted and Order 1886 threads are always filled with pessimistic people, downgrade comments and whatnot :p I'm not saying people can't be skeptical given how Ubisoft has changed the perception of a lot of gamers... but ever since Watch_Dogs released... people are taking these downgrade comments to an extreme.

Actually downgrades are the one thing that no one is saying in Order 1886 threads. Everything else though.

Man, this is what I was stoked for, such nice screens, high detail and good IQ. I guess behemoth PC's may get close to these screens with 980's in SLI downsampled from 8k though. The gameplay footage from PC they released is no where close to that, don't get me wrong, it still looks good, but not what they first showed. I liked the gameplay though and commendation on the huge worlds and forms of travel.

Watching the video, I absolutely loved the different sounds I was hearing and I thought the game looked great in motion. My only issue was not seeing any hoof prints as he was riding the horse on the snowy mountain. That's being picky I suppose, but those little things bug me ><

I m also finding the shots a bit of letdown.
Some of the stuff seems to be fixable with SweetFX but no all of it.
I'm really hoping the videos are xbox one's coz of the "press A" to x or y.
Its probably still a pc with a controller connected :(
But CDPR has done magic before with W2 console versions so... fingers crossed.

One things for sure, if they don't hit it out of the park on launch they won't stop working on it till it's damn near perfect. Look at all the changes TW2 underwent, besides, if it looked the way most of us wanted it to none of us would be able to run it.

New news, new thread?

DevonPL from reddit Gaming forum said:
I couldn't really find the translation on the western sites so here it is, news from the first hand. Here is the link to the interview in polish language http://www.gry-online.pl/S018.asp?ID=1132 and below I'll try to include short summary:

Currently there are 230 people working on The Witcher 3

Prologue and tutorial aimed for casual players will be skippable

Having recommended specs will allow for playing in 30 frames per second.

PC specs aren't exaggerated, although the team is still working on the optimization

PC players will be able to import saved state from previous game OR decide themself about their character's past. Consoles will stick with just the second option

PC, PS4 and Xbox One use the same build, textures and models. Game will look almost identical on all platforms, although Xbox's version will be showed in 900p, scaled up to 1080p.

The probably most controversial part about FPS straight from the interview:

Translation:

PC recommended specs will be able to run the game on 30 or 60 frames per second?
I think, we'll stick with 30 FPS. We're not going to stop working on performance until the very end, it's crucial matter to us, there are different PCs with different specs. Programmers insisted on avoiding tricking the players by lowering predicted specs. As I mentioned before, It can only get better.

Pardon me for any mistakes, fellow poles, feel free to bash me and suggest some fixes.

And don't kill the courier please D:

At least Gerlat hair is white now :p

but yeah Gerlat and other characters hair look awful here, maybe they should just use Nvidia hairworks (or tressFx) or even something like what was used in Alice. as for developers in general, well Unity got a great looking hair also it don't move that well but look good.

I really hope we see something like new dawn demo this gen.

To be honest that hair tech looks awful, no one has Zero G hair like that.

Totally looks a generation ahead.

Sure you are talking about character/skin rendering, but compare it fairly and not in closed spaces, where frames dip to 30fps because it's clearly rendering the models at twice the level.

EDIT: Sorry for double post.

I can't tell if you are being sarcastic with this HUD on, clearly not max settings pic...

We've seen Witcher 3 character scenes, bullshots, and gameplay and know it looks worse

Check the screens quoted in this post below and come back

Saw the screenshots, looked for someone to point out Unity looks better and thankfully they have.

Unity is unrivaled right now, in my opinion. I just can't get over it. I'm simply willing to say Unity wins best graphics and it is a game featuring all of Paris. A place as much as a game and it looks like this:

LOL okay.

Maxed out settings.

And you are using screenshots from the PC screenshot thread where they make it look better than it really is with injections and downsampling - not to mention the ones that actually look good are taken inside?

I mean we can take the final release of Witcher 3 and do the same and say things like "IT IS A GENERATION AHEAD, LOOK AT THESE [EDITED] SCREENSHOTS".

Please.

Lol I was looking extra close at the screenshots to see if I could see any muddy textures but glossed over the last couple of screens because it all looked so solid. Damn, would've spotted that little guy on me own (i hope) if I had kept looking. Lol! Awesome find!

Game has the same problem as Skyrim - teeny-tiny mountains.

And you can't go anywhere that's actual countryside. There's always a town, fort, or camp in sight. Never get even 30 seconds to feel like you are crossing a distance, alone in the wild.
