NHL Smarch 2015 |OT| Toronto is tanking on purpose this time.

I imagine it will be the same with the Rangers, but it's still a lot to pay. Does anyone have them as a top 5 contender now? I'd still put Hawks, Nashville, St. Louis, Ducks, Tampa and maybe even the Islanders ahead of them.

*Phaneuf hero chart*

According to this Kindl should be close to a top pairing defense man and Phaneuf should be a bottom pairing or 7th D man. :/

I really don't think that is true.

Tyler Myers has some hands for such a big goofy looking guy.

Of course we follow up a goal with a penalty. Of course.

The 2nd round pick is just because Coyotes ate so much of the salary. Duclair makes it the overpayment.

Don't overvalue first round picks. If it isn't top 10, it's just another crapshoot gamble pick.

Duclair, Domi, and possibly McDavid, Hanafin, Eichel?

So basically, we're getting the BS narratives of how the Coyotes rose from the ashes and manged to stay in a market that more or less rejected them, and how despite all the relocation threats and constantly losing money since being moved from Winnipeg (where were already losing money for some time even then) but Gary Bettman's genius and nurturing of the market manged to bring forth the fans support with the likes of Duclair, Domi, McDavid, and Matthews (in 2016). They eventually win the Cup, forever keeping them in Glendale.

...Or just give a sociopath like me a expansion franchise (pick a city, any city) and gut the franchise's future by the 20xx Entry Draft.

I'd put the Rangers above Chicago and the Islanders right now. Islanders have not proven anything and Chicago hasn't been as good as they should/could be. Especially with Kane out.

Top of the list IMO is Nashville/Tampa/Montreal/Rangers/Anaheim

Anaheim being in a tier lower than the other teams.

Just because your team is shit awful at drafting doesn't mean draft picks are all "gambles"
Given the percentage of draft picks who don't pan out or just end up mediocre, yes, they are gambles.

Of course it's good to have a lot of early picks, increase the chances and all that, but there are no guarantees.

Trading away a first doesn't mean the team is throwing away their future. Aquiring firsts doesn't guarantee a future either. Even first overalls don't guarantee anything. First overalls that every team in the league would have chosen.

Eugh..Weiss.

I want Phaneuf to go, because I don't like him as a captain and want his terribly high contract off the books, but Weiss has been pretty awful. It's a rebuild, though, so it wouldn't be terrible if we got some great picks or something.

The Rangers also seem to have paid a bit much for Yandle. He's a good player, but holy shit.

When you trade away 4 years of first in a row like the Rangers, you're throwing a good chunk of your future away. It might be gambling to the Oilers, but there are a lot of good drafters throughout the league that can find solid NHL players throughout the draft. Patches, AGally, BGally, Subban, Price, Beaulieu, Tinordi, De La Rose, Plekanec, all drafted by the Habs from 3rd overall to the 5th round. Throwing those picks away will bite the Rangers in the ass in 4-5 years.

The only change I expect in Montreal before the deadline is Petry being added. I think they'll roll the dice with the current forwards. And since I dont buy into advanced stats, I see Petry as really a net gain of 0.

So the 4th round pick the Yotes are sending back to the Rangers isn't even for this year...

EDIT: Finally official:
New York Rangers ‏@NYRangers 2m 2 minutes ago
#NYR acquired Keith Yandle, Chris Summers, & 4th rd pick in '16 from ARI for J. Moore, A. Duclair, a 2nd rd pick in '15 & a cond 1st in '16

Can someone explain to me how in the last few EA NHL games whenever I start a new Be A GM season, Toronto always ends up making the Stanley Cup Finals within the first 2 seasons? I mean someone over there must have a hard-on for the Leafs that they programmed them to not actually suck during simulation.

Maybe but that doesnt mean they need to take back an even worse contract like Weiss'.

Uh.... Phaneuf's is way worse than Weiss, and Weiss's is up in 3 years and he is playing pretty decently, apparently is time on ice compared to how many points he puts up is actually the highest (or 2nd highest) on the team this year. Bab's just uses him as a 4th liner for some reason.

We'll take Mantha, your first, and...Cleary....

CLEARY!!!! GONE!!!!

DEAL!!!!
As long as we change Mantha to Ferraro/Weiss

I doubt your 4th line is facing a lot of the other teams' top defensive players which would probably explain some of the points. That must be why Babcock puts him there. Not because he sucks or anything.

So what's the deal with this Klingberg kid?

Trading away Stempniak seems weird because our 4th line wasn't really performing well to begin with and this doesn't seem to help it any. I guess this is a sign that they're planning on keep JT Miller in the lineup even after Jesper Fast returns (which seems to be happening this week, as soon as tomorrow, possibly).

Of course TANNER GLASS is still back there...

Stars just waived David Schlemko.

Well, he didn't really do anything so no big loss I guess.

EDIT: Calgary claimed him.
