A New Graphical Benchmark - The Order 1886

It was very impressive until you realise how limited you are in interacting or exploring the environment. It's definitely the best looking movie set tour I've been on.

Games like Crysis will always be more technically impressive as you can do something with the gameplay mechanics and physics whilst being blown away by graphics.

One of the many posts that misses the point, this is solely about the graphics.

Many seem to take this stance of using the mechanics and game style as a back handed way of diminishing the quality of the topic at hand, how it looks!

The Order easily had the best visuals I've ever seen in a console game, and it wasn't in 1080p. Imagine what the sequel will look like...*drools*

The Order shouldn't get too comfortable. As we all know, art design is king when it comes to visuals and Bloodborne releases in 17 days.

And The Order has amazing art design, while Bloodborne is probably (I'm not updated) going to have performance issues and bad AA. Still beautiful though, I agree.

Aother thread on The Order's graphics. This is why I keep saying the graphics are overrated. It's blurry and grainy, it's brownish grey and it runs at less pixels than 900p. It's also very confined and linear. Some people are calling the graphics 'clean' and saying the IQ is great.

I'm glad other people seem to think the same. I feel like I've been taking crazy pills when reading comments on this game's graphics.

You have no idea what you at talking about at all... It has the same pixel density as 1080p.... But more than 900p...

Buy nice attempt to try to derail the thread... "Confined and linear"??? What does that even have to do with graphics? Did you not read the thread title before you posted??

One question, have you played the game at all??? It's obvious you have not.... Especially when you think you have been taking crazy pills when people talk about the graphics....

game is for sure beautiful and undoubtedly has the best graphics on console.

My personal graphics benchmark from what I've seen is Star Citizen, but The Order is indeed a looker.

No

1920*800 > 1600*900

Going from The Order to Resident Evil Revelations 2 for me was jarring to say the least. haha

Same here, at least when it comes to how the gameplay in a game that took 4+ years to make utterly pales in comparison to a low-budget effort that probably took around a fourth of that time.

Thread is full of these attempts to derail, also full of clueless posters who don't know what they are talking about!

Don't think so, because next Uncharted will have bigger area than the precedent ones, and 1080p resolution, The Order is able to reach that graphics and effects thanks to its sub 1080p resolution plus linear areas

Well, yeah. But even so, I wouldn't have thought that an inexperienced studio as RAD could beat the wizards at ND before The Order was released. It's so damn impressive even if they took some short cuts.

And btw, really liking the game but that's no surprise, I love the genre and I usually don't agree with reviews.

It is the best looking game I have seen for sure. I'm more impressed by the order than even uncharted 4 thus far. I wonder if the ultra focus on visuals is not the reason why this game fails in so many other ways.

Bolded is just plain wrong

No it does not.

It has the same pixel density as 1080p. It does not have the same amount of overall pixels.

I really didn't like playing this game but I absolutely loved looking at it. I can understand why it took so long to make for how short it was, it must have taken crazy man-hours to create this damn world. Nothing is visually out of place. Everything is SO DAMN COHESIVE. Clearly the new benchmark for me. I thought it would take a while to knock Ryse PC version off the hill but here we are.

This is so far ahead from everything else, the world is so greatly build that i doubt we are going to see anything on the same level this year, maybe not even next year.

Star Citizen looks really great but it just seems like its evolving on a iterative path visually. It looks like a PC game that is just insanely crisp. The overall image being produced just doesn't wow me like the Order does that is better at mimicking real world visuals.

That probably doesn't make any sense.

Does anyone know how many polygons were expended for each of the main characters (in their various attires)?

Even ignoring the clear technical ignorance here I can't believe you said the game looked blurry. It doesn't at all. Its one of the most detailed games ever while maintaining crisp IQ. Its stunning.

While the game is definitely at the top as far as technical visuals currently go, I wanted to share a few shots of the game without the motion blur visible, which does make things more intense while in motion (and temporal AA is generally in the mix). However, without it, the artistry and quality is easier to see, as in those dev shots in the OP's post.

This game does realistic "dark" absurdly well. Beautiful lighting techniques, excellent geometry distribution, and substantial physicality in the animations and camera movement.

Amazing shots man.

Um if your talking about how utterly crazy the pacing and QTEs in The Order are compared to RE than yeah I can see that but the general combat design is still better in The Order

Hardly missing the point when I said that it does look very impressive, it's just you taking issue with the fact I pointed out it's a guided virtual tour instead of a game.

I just find games that look graphically amazing and are still games more impressive than walking down the best looking corridors ever.

You're still missing the point. This thread is literally about the graphics and the OP points out that we are not talking about your "issue" or anything relative to the game play aspects. Did you not read the OP?

You know how in every generation there is this one game that gives that big WOW, the first one that truly give you that next gen feeling.
Previous gen it was Gears on X360 , MGS2 on PS2 was that game for the 6 consoles generation to give you that shock and I think The Order without any doubt will be remembered as the first truly next gen game for the 8th console generation.

Wish it was better cause usually these games are great as well.

Definitely.

^ Ryse and Killzone were pretty much next gen from day one though. Both games were and still are a definitive step up from anything last gen, as is The Order.

Yeah they looked really great but overall I wasn't blown away. Actually thats not true the night mission in Ryse in the woods was pretty amazing when I first saw it.

It's absolutely incredible.

Honestly I'm not expecting it to be topped on the PS4 for a long time.

Uncharted looks like an pretty obvious step down, even though the games go for very different art directions. Horizon is supposed to be open world.

Maybe God of War? Probably Quantic Dream's new game or The Order sequel.

I'm not missing the point at all, the OP says things like "the skyboxes don't look like skyboxes" "The steam rising from the buildings and the London city sprawling in all directions makes the whole game feel grounded and just more real than anything else." Well to me I still very much felt like I was stuck, walking down set paths instead of moving around London, you'd look off into the distance and could tell what is and isn't game space.

And "You move with great weight and the soft body physics of your clothes and them not clipping together all over the place just looks so amazing" I saw plenty of my guns clipping through Galahads clothes. Really let's not get ahead of ourselves over the graphics.

Amazing Nib.
Can I put these in the OP?

You did? I was really looking for it a couple of times and didn't see it. Obviously you can't go anywhere you see in the game world give me a break, I just meant that though you are confined there is no artistic divider where you see 2D backgrounds or whatever. It just seems cohesive.

Ryse is my Gears, this would be more like my Uncharted 2. The Order just blows me away and makes all other games look crap by comparison. That's how I felt about Uncharted 2.

I think one thing that gets forgotten is not just how good the graphics are, but how well they perform... With some games coming out with screen tearing, consistantly mixed framerates, graphical glitches, and needing to be heavily patched with large patches after release, The Order performed very well with these aesthetics basically straight out of the box...

That's pretty refreshing with what The Order is pushing graphically....

I think the picture is too soft in The Order, it actually gave me eye strain and I had to play it in small bursts. Combination of DoF, stupid chromatic aberration (this effect needs to die universally), and film grain. End result just too soft.

Yeah I mention that in the OP but its truly astounding how smooth the game is. I can have blacksite going where I blow a grenade up while they are absolutely exploding the environment around me and the thing is more than rock solid its smooth as butter.

It is definitely a benchmark for console games at least, and reminds me of Killzone 2 at that.

Other things it shares with Killzone 2 are eye hurting dof, frustratingly narrow fov and brown colours.

Finally some screens that make the game justice. GJ Nib and Xenorevlis!

I should look at my saved screens from my play through some day also, must have pressed the share button at least 100+ times lol. It's really one of the most awesome features of this gen for me, I have so maaaany pictures of Infamous, TLOU and now The Order.

Here are a couple of mine. Not as good as those though. Pardon the bad quality.

No these are awesome man. Great shots, way better than the ones I got.

I think it looks better than anything on PC.

Loll, I basically made the Share button a feature of the gameplay while I was playing... I hit that thing probably 100 times just gawking at the graphics...
