NPD Sales Results for February 2015 [Nintendo Numbers, Majora's, MH4, ~XB1]

I think Splatoon sales will be middling at best. Do you think it will be a hit and move hardware? Ehhhh.

splatoon ain't moving any hardware. I think it's sales will be just ok. not great but solid enough to give it a nod for being a Wii U game. it's all relative because of the platform honestly.

No it wouldn't have? MH4U sold at least 2 times what Sunset did in the same timeframe. This is a great month for software when MH4U is 10th at 295K - digital.

yeah but SO would be competing with less games to get sales and exposure.

Bloodborne is going to do gangbusters. 500k in its first month is conservative.

500k is not conservative imo. I think if it did 500k that would largely be above expectations. But I think it'll do more than 300k. Well actually, I think it'll do more than w/e MH4 retail was. Could potentially still be under 300k.

Based on what?

Based on all those Dark Souls sales! Uhm...
But yeah there's been very odd comments on that game for months now.

It will have a good debut and be successful for the studio. Not a single bit of reasoning to think it will do gangbusters though. It clearly won't.

The X1 and PS4 continue to sell incredibly well.

I didn't expect #'s that high for February.

Nice

It keeps amazing me how many games people by for Xbox hardware. 3 of those top 10 sold more on the X1 than PS4. The Order probably cannibalized some sales though.

Bloodborne would very lucky to sell more than 250k.

Indeed with the game releasing on March 25th and being a new IP in a relatively niche genre (tons of people are not into difficult gothic bloody RPGs), 300k in the next NPD would be a significant accomplishment.

Btw I think that PS4 will get a boost in hardware sales because of the Bloodborne and Type Zero combo.
I think (also based on people I actually know) that a few Souls and Final Fantasy fans have been waiting this month before buying the console.

Edit: Internet hype isn't a good gauge of how well a game does.

I agree, of course it isn't!

What it is though is a great indicator of where the media is thinking what the market wants.

That coverage exists to satisfy an expectation of demand.

Compared to the expectations that it was going to provide MS with an instant "win" this generation, it most certainly failed to meet the performance hype it was showered with.

It was critically acclaimed and is probably the best selling EA new IP ever according to Respawn. That is in no way a failure. No rational person believed one game was going to win the generation. I don't see how you equate a few outlandish predictions to be the game's "expectations" at large.

Titanfall sold A LOT more than Evolve did even without being on PS4. The constant comparison just seems silly.

Wow. A re-release of a 15 year old game on a single platform outsold all other software including combined sales of mutliplatform games.

Normally I don't check out sales threads very often but that seems pretty incredible to me.

Bro. I want BB to do well also but lets not get ahead of ourselves. It's still a niche genre and a new IP.

I think over time it'll do well.
OK, I'm not going to respond to every comment calling me crazy. Maybe that's too aggressive, I am willing to stick by the 500K number, but whatever. My predictions mean nothing in the end.

I will say, that Sony would not be putting the type of marketing dollars behind it if it was so niche. It's been plastered on the sports television I watch since last week. You're not reaching out to a mainstream sports audience if this game was tracking as a niche title.

I know Amazon charts are rudimentary, but it's also doing far better than the Order did on Amazon at this period before its release.

For a studio that hasn't released anything else for over 3 years, I wouldn't be surprised if those mediocre sales (for the amount of money spent on the game) and weak reviews for The Order meant that Ready at Dawn is in serious trouble at the moment. Going to be very hard to get a publisher to greenlight anything from them now. I'd expect at the very least layoffs with a chance of total studio closure...

seems a little extreme to me. this's a studio that has a good track record with sony. dumping them over a new ip which obviously got a number of things right, & showed a lot of promise, but which didn't do as well as might've been expected? i'd hope sony isn't that short-sighted...

Dark Souls 2 sold plenty well even despite being not quite as good as the previous game. If "Blood Souls" reviews well (and there's every indication it will), I expect it to do very well as the first AAA must-have exclusive for the PS4.

The Zelda hype is real. Man, if WiiU was selling half decent Zelda U would be a huge game.

I went to play GTA.

It's the same garbage as PlayStation Family or Xbox Family.

Don't get fanboy on me for BS that they all used.

Fanboy? No dude it isn't "fanboy" to point out that a n3ds is still a, wait for it, 3ds.

Such is the nature of AAA.

I really hope Bloodborne does well. FROM deserves recognition. The mainstream are slow to catch up on the best games and I hope Bloodborne will be the trigger.

That'd be Nintendo family. 3DS is one system with several sizes and one redesign. You're reaching like Dhalsim with one exclusive port (not out yet) making N3DS its own generation, but it's even more silly separating 2DS, 3DS and 3DS XL.

People said the exact same thing about Evolution. I hope it doesn't happen just as it didn't for them.

I wonder if it'll bomb harder than TW101.

Hmm... it could happen, but since the 3DS has a higher userbase, it might be a bit, just a little bit better.

Don't waste your time, it is pointless.

Yeah word of mouth is going to be very important for this game. I believe its going to have very positive opinions on it, and as we've seen with Dying Light, positive word of mouth can go very far.

Now it doesn't have the mass market appeal that Dying Light has but I'm leaning towards a very successful launch all things considered for Bloodborne.

On Amazon. This is simply not true. At this point the order was just below PS4 on hourly and in the top 20 monthly. Bloodborne is two behind PS4 and only 28 for monthly. There is still time and leg post lauch are primed to be better, but pre orders are favoring the Order at this point before its launch.

The issue is Dark Souls got noticed; this is a new brand on a young platform and is now an exclusive. The test for this type of game is not first month sales but sales through to the end of the year.

The remaster of the game pretty much polishes all the painful N64 rough edges and limitations and allows the core game to shine.

As time goes on and gaming matures, we're probably going to see more and more of this; extremely well-made games don't age, outside of technical details that can be upgraded. In the same way that a classic film receives an HD scan for blu-ray and sells fine to a new generation.

One could also view it as proof of the value behind Nintendo's philosophy of making evergreen games. 15 years ago they invested in that title. And it's still paying off today.
