Final Fantasy VII Announced For PS4

nope.

Sakaguchi developed TSW as essentially a tech demo for future Squaresoft produced FMVs, film, and media which would have included other companies licensing the technology to use for their own properties.

People above him approved the idea and then when it was mismanaged and over budget due to literally creating the tools as the film was being made, they decided to lessen Sakaguchi's role in the company (said company's success that was mostly owed to his supervision and creative management) and after the film bombed went on to shutdown the studio that cost a ton to establish and any potential to be gained from the endeavour that they approved.

TSW also did not "almost kill the company" it merely damaged it momentarily until bandaged by Sony and healed by the success of FFX and Kingdom Hearts.

wada did shit all but coasted off taking over when the company rebounded on its own and and then poisoned the environment with competitive in house working conditions and brand milking

lol. Got to love how you so nonchalantly shrug it off with "nope" right before referencing a deal that Wada pitched. If Spirits Within didn't almost kill the company, why do you think they needed Sony to inject cash into Square in the first place? For a laugh?

Spirits Within was a tech demo? The film that lost them $100 million? Yeah, okay. Square Pictures was a huge money loser and there was no demand for its expensive CGI, closing it down was the only option for Square. VisualWorks continued on, so it's not like they lost their ability to create really high quality pre-rendered videos.

You're letting your dislike for him get in the way of the facts. Just because he did a shit job overall, doesn't mean he didn't do some good things along the way, like buying Eidos.

i hope this isnt a feature on the ps4 version.. do you have to pay to do those boosts?

I wouldn't mind if they left it in but trophies should really be disabled if it's used.

That should be the case, trophies are disabled if you're using cheats, I'm not so sure if that feature is going to make it into the PS4 version, for PC mods and cheats are pretty much standard stuff so it makes sense, for consoles the mentality is a bit different so who knows...

Btw today's announcement about FFX on PS4 has made me think about the lack of release date for FFVII which ironically was announced earlier and should be easier to port.
I guess that the game might be released in early April.
They said there will be unannounced features in FFVII as well, probably it will be something like a custom PS4 theme, Vita remote playing and so on.
Imo they should find a way to filter those low res backgrounds in some way.....

I would say maybe June from the looks of things as it's still in the time frame of spring, but I hope it is an April release that will be pretty cool.

Square's trolling was amazing that day.
Greatest gif of all time, perfect for Square's trolling that day.

Was just looking at the EU PSN sale on Final Fantasy games earlier, and the only one that is not on sale is FFVII. Incoming release date soon? Surely that is the reason why it is the only one exempt in the sale?

Well, they said "Spring" release which is generally March-May

March is Type-0 and May is FFX HD, so April seems most likely for FF7.

I hope so, I can't wait to play it.

Sorry for the bump but I'm a junior and can't make New Thread but here is something interesting, a sequel that use original FF7 PS1 engine :

Final Fantasy VII: Time Guardian was designed as an open-world sequel project to the original Final Fantasy VII.

Working on original PS1 hardware it takes the original world of FF7 and adds a fully fuctional day and night system, shops that open and close, crafting of weapons/armor/materia, resource mining, house ownership, repeatable quests, character zapping/teams and a faction/karma system. It also extends the story of FFVII by bringing back lost game files and backgrounds, reviving quests such as the Kalm/Gongaga letter, making better use of backgrounds and using concept ideas from the Final Fantasy VII Ultimania.

Platform: PS1, PC, Android (emulator)

Trailer of the game :

I'm pretty pessimistic about these fan projects (legal-wise), but this is a great achievement technically.

Can't wait to see how sharp those polygons are in glorious HD.

I don't want a fucking port, I want a remaster because the game looks horrible. Still fantastic, but those out-of-battle character models need some serious updating.

Oh Square. Your hatred for your hardcore fans never stops making me laugh. A FF7 remake would be really nice though.

Hopefully scrapped. There is plenty of other ways to play the game already. Do people really want to play it again on PS4? Sure, I guess the trophies are nice, but thats it.

I do. I don't have any other console that will play it and the PS4 is not backwards compatible. I would have preferred a remake obviously or at least some work done on the original and the way they announced it was one gignormous clusterfuck, but I don't mind having the game to play on my PS4 at all. It should have been handled and announced differently but there's nothing inherently wrong about the original version coming to PS4.

I would like it. I don't own a gaming pc and I only have a PS4 setup to my big tv currently. I come from a 360 last gen so missed it on PSN. Around a tenner on the UK store and I'd bite on PC port to reminisce. I know that isn't a popular opinion here but a release date would be nice. My time post Witcher and pre Batman will be short though so think SE have missed me

I replayed FFVII when it was first released on PSN for PS3 and I loved every minute of it. I would love to play it again anyway, so the addition of higher resolution polygons and Trophy support only sweetens the deal. Will buy this on PS4 the second it comes out.

I think we will get this next month... May still considered to be "spring".

I think we will get the announcement of the release date just before few weeks.

I'm still foolishly hoping that they've did some work to it. I know that the trailer showed it in its vanilla state but that could have just been for the announcement trailer. Knowing S-E it's possible that no work had even been started on it at that point. Don't get me wrong, I'm not giving them any sort of benefit of the doubt but if they're going to re-release it on PS4 and it not be a remake, the least they could do is some touching up.

Again, not getting my hopes up and I know this will just be a straight PC port, but it'd be nice.

Even just skimming over the first few pages of this thread brings all of the hurt back. What a way to taint what was otherwise a good thing (PSX).

That would put it really close to FFX's release on PS4. Type-0 was last month, FFX is next month. FFVII should have been this month, or just save it for summer.

I really hope SE gets back on stage at Sony's E3 conference and says that trailer was a joke and shows a new trailer showing remake footage or something >_<

Eh. I'm perfectly happy with the original game+trophy support. A remake would be better, yes. But the original is still a good game.

I know what happens and yet I still fall for it. Every damn time.

I still just want a release date just so we can move away from this topic and put the hurt into an OT that is full of puns and pain. I still believe in an April release with a week's warning in advance.

My knowledge is very limited when it comes to this sort of thing and I don't care to admit it because it's the truth, but how hard would it be to give it widescreen support and to maybe go through and touch up the textures/models even just a bit? I know doing textures and models isn't a snap your fingers ordeal, but they're a big and talented company, no? It just seems lazy to me to not do anything at all to it. I don't even really care about it not being a remake; the only thing shitty about that situation is the epic fanfare given to the announcement which made everyone think it was a remake, but is it seriously too much to ask for even a bit of an upgrade especially since they're trying to sell it again?

Maybe after the reaction at PSE, they're at least up-resing the sprites and adding widescreen.

Maybe.

Has this ever happened is the history of Gamingdom? Like has a Dev/Pub ever went back to the drawing board because of feedback and actually released a better product?

Funny you should ask. The best example comes from this very same company (S-E): FFXIV.

They said fuck it lets take it from the top. The result was fantastic. This isn't happening again though don't count on it.
