Sony won't be holding a press conference at Gamescom 2015

Damn that sucks. That sucks ass. Sony tend to deliver at Gamescom, so to not have them there this year is going to hurt. I don't know what exactly an "international media briefing" is going to entail, but I don't like the sound of it.

Media Briefing = Press Conference.

International media briefing sounds like a worldwide price drop of 100 right around the launch of halo and other big games to me!!

Come on, their explanation is absurd to say the least. Gamescom is just a week or so early this year, what difference does it make?
I guess it's just a money thing and desire to have the spotlight just for themselves.
anyways, this sucks big time. 90% of the European press and fans will attend Gamescom the same, a week early or not. It's not that they were using that extra week to develop new content: Gamescom announcements are and will remain remainders or leftovers from E3. Honestly, showing them a week later is it really that different?

Isn't that the point though? Gamescom was already a redundant show as it was, the dates moving even closer to E3 just makes it even more so. If the show is going to be even more recap than normal from an event 4 weeks prior then why even bother?

Media Briefing = Press Conference.

It's the word "media" that bothers me. In the context of a conference dedicated to video games anyway, which is what Sony always did at Gamescom, and rather well. I hope that whatever they do at Paris isn't going to encompass stuff like television shows and films and whatnot.

Sony is probably happy with little to no spotlight since they don't really have much to push this fall(unless they announce something at E3 for this fall). Makes sense since they don't have everyone screaming MS conference was better if they don't show up for a conference.

Has MS announced any plans? Was it last year where Spencer and Harrison were like, in a bathroom talking to a couple people about XB1? Or was that the year before?

Daaamn, that sucks. I always liked Gamescom the best out of all the trade shows.

Media doesn't imply the content of the presentation but the audience.

I seriously don't understand why everyone seems to be that disappointed at a Press Conference being hold in another gaming convention?

What was so special last year at Sony's Gamescom 2014 press conference that you couldn't enjoy if it's showcased in Paris?

Sony's Gamescom Press Conference Resumé said:
  • New LittleBigPlanet 3 trailer showcased.
  • Bloodborne gameplay trailer shown, first time ever. Announced to be coming within the next 6 months.
  • 10 million PS4 consoles have been sold to customers (as opposed to sold to retailers, that number will be a lot more).
  • Q-Games of PixelJunk fame announced a 3D game called The Tomorrow Children, which is a quirky tower defense/Minecraft-esque title. Exclusive to PS4.
  • The Vanishing of Ethan Carter game announced for PS4, developed by The Astronauts.
  • Thomas Was Alone developer announced new game title Volume, stealth game featuring Robin Hood. Timed exclusive for PS4/Vita. Similar to MGS VR Missions.
  • Paradox Interactive announced Hollowpoint for PS4 coming 2015, and also mentioned title of next game; Runemaster. Timed exclusive.
  • Day-Z announced for PS4.
  • Ninja Theory announced Hellblade, platforms unknown, most likely PS4 exclusive.
  • New trailer show for Rime, still looks awesome.
  • Indie sizzle reel, too much games to mention.
  • Destiny, new multiplayer trailer showcased. Most pre-ordered new IP ever, highest sales on PS4. Timed exclusive DLC; Exodus Blue. The Dark Below expansion announced to be coming in December.
  • Far Cry 4 comes with 10 keys, each key allows you to play 2 hours of co-op with a friend who doesn’t own the game.
  • Shadow of Mordor will have exclusive content on PlayStation platforms, coming October 3rd, 2014.
  • MGSV. Hideo Kojima came on to stage to showcase one of the most stupid demos for The Phantom Pain I have ever seen, and announced nothing new.
  • P.T. – Interactive horror trailer available on PlayStation Store for this game, not many details known (finish demo to find out).
  • Firmware 2.0 coming soon, friend finder, YouTube uploading, and Share Play. This allows you to invite people to play your game, or invite PS+ members to play with you, and they don’t have to own the game. Similar to MS’ initial Xbox ideas.
  • PlayStation Now coming to Europe in 2015, launching first in UK.
  • PlayStation TV launching in PAL territories in November, €99.
  • Until Dawn re-announced for PS4, looks a LOT better. PS4-exclusive.
  • Driveclub dynamic weather demo showcased, looks amazing. PS4-exclusive.
  • Media Molecule announced Tearaway Unfolded for PS4, part port with new controls. PS4-exclusive.
  • Housemarque announced Alienation, looks like Dead Nation, with Aliens… PS4-exclusive.
  • Wild Sheep Studios announced Wild. A game that allows you to play as any animal, don’t understand what the actual point of the game is though.

We are still getting same number of conferences.

E3 for big AAA games.
Paris for smaller, weird/quirkier games (replacement for Gamescom).
TGS for Japan stuff.
PSX for hardcore fanboys and come talk to devs and buy PlayStation swag.

Only people pissed at this should be Germans... This is how Xbone gets that 40% market share.

Pretty shocking really, but if they're basically just moving the conference to another show a few weeks later then it hopefully shouldn't change too much for us in terms of announcements and shit in the end.

Still... end of an era.

Personally not happy about this, its the only thing worth watching at the show

Pretty much. Imagine the past couple of GC's without the Sony presser especially... Would have been so bad.

MS last year was ok-ish, but EA was boring, so yeah I have to agree

Why is Gamescom so early now? Why mess with a good thing?

E3 moved back a week and gamescom moved up one. It's a weird move since it just bunches them tightly together. In general all of the major conferences need to be spaced out more. They're a lot like games where publishers decide to stick a ton of big hitters all into small release window.

I wonder if it has something to do with USK. They want to rate everything for Gamescom, and while Sony is no indie and can eat up the costs (because you of course have to pay them for those temporary ratings), if they wanted to show off "God of 1866: Let It Die" or something, that could end up being problematic.

That is a blow at GS more than anything. But I don't understand their reasoning. TGS is now even closer lol. Same with PSX.

I think you're confused. Media Briefing means communicating to the mass media, ie. the press. Also known as a Press Conference.

They're briefing the media. Not a briefing of media.

Just like a press conference is a conference with press. Not a Conference of Press.

What? "Media" and "press" are interchangeable words.

Paris games is late october, that means no psx conference ?

PSX is likely to be early/ mid December like last time, so the Paris conference is actually pretty strategic, being a mere days away from the "real" beginning of the Holiday season.

This year will go like this:

E3: June 16th
Gamescom: Agust 9th
TGS: September 17th
Paris Expo: October 27th
PSX: December 6th? (possible date, this is last year's)

Disappointing in the sense that it's always good to have hype trains going (even if they often derail), but I can understand that a 6 week delay between E3 and Gamescom isn't much... And that will make E3 that much more important imo.

I doubt thats it. There would still be enough to show. Or they could show too violent games at one of the other events
I'd totally play GO1886LTD btw

So...
E3 in Mid June
TGS in September
Paris Show in October
and PSX in December?

instead of:
E3 Mid June
Gamescom Early August
TGS in September
and PSX in December?

seems weird. I guess E3 will be more a global showcase this year, save some money not doing a gamescom show, and then just a smaller event in Paris that's strictly euro?

So Paris Expo starts on the same day Halo 5 releases? Ha, I can see why they're holding their European press conference there. :p

Because "media briefings" are always done to address the media, aka the press. That's what that term has always meant.

Then why didn't they just call it a fucking press conference!
Sorry, I didn't know that. Never heard of that term before.

Thanks for the clarification. Okay, nothing to worry about then. The show is still on, it's just happening a fair bit later this year.

I was just posting earlier about last year's MS GC presser after someone reminded me it basically amounted to announcements of Screamride and them paying to keep Tomb Raider 2 off of PS4. Ok-ish is a more generous label than I'd use there tbh ;)

Big opening for Microsoft. It'll show MS cares for Europe, and Sony abandoned them like Red headed British step-children.

This will allow the Xbox one to ca-
Ok I'm good.
