The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt exceeds 1 MILLION pre-orders worldwide!

Generally, on day 1, there will be reviews and gameplay footage out that isn't coming from a dev controlled environment. Unless you're getting up at 8 am and going to the local store to grab it immediately, you have access to these.

If these are out before the game launch, and you pre-order within the final few days in order to secure some kind of bonus, I think that's ok.

What I'm really against are these full week before launch bragging posts about pre-orders. I think it incentivizes a process that can and is used to manipulate sales data and hurt devs and consumers.

Reviews will be out tomorrow and there is literally 8hours of raw footage of the game out there.

BUT WHAT ABOUT THE DOWNGRADE GUYZ??!!

I think it is going to be just fine.

With how CDPR has acted recently that has changed my opinion and I wish nobody would preorder the Witcher 3.

I went from buying it to waiting a couple years and buy it on the cheap.

check the b/s/t thread, i was able to get a code for my buddy from a great gaffer for $25

I know people love this game series, but this many pre-orders is terrible.

I know everybody is anxious to get their hands on this... but we need to stop encouraging pre-orders. It's a bad practice.

And Have to be in a Store line for 1 day to see if Im lucky enough to get the Collectors Edition....No thank you, Pre order is a god send for me.

I have fast download speeds, but if I'm planning on buying the game the day it comes out, then why wouldn't I preorder it and preload it? I still don't see why I shouldn't preorder.

Also often games get small discounts when preodering, at least on Steam, but they don't really sway my decision either way.

Oh, I'm 100% behind pre-ordering.

I rarely buy new games without pre-ordering them as I tend to buy at launch, or never.

I'm of the opinion that an informed consumer is the best consumer. I personally haven't seen enough of The Witcher to determine whether it's a worthwhile investment or not. I think that we, as consumers, should absolutely wait until at least Day 1 for this kind of stuff.

It's subjective. You haven't seen enough to decide, while 1,000,000 others have. They're not wrong for knowing they want it, you're not wrong for being unsure. A lot of people don't give a fuck about reviews. They're not wrong for not caring what others think, you're not wrong if you do.

I've played the first two games, can't fucking wait for this. What possible reason could there be for me not to pre-order so I can pre-load it and be playing as soon as possible?

I think people are perceiving some evil just because it's what the developers, publishers, and retailers want. So, what? I want the game, they want me to pre-order. They incentivise me enough with a pre-load (and discount in this case), and I pre-order. Win/win.

Well, CDPR is going to pump most of that money straight into Cyberpunk 2077. Their CEO also told investors that CDPR won't pay out dividends this year.

You think high sales for a genre won't do anything for it?

Maybe I'm just cynical, but, high sales can certainly lead to more projects, but, also more chances to ring the genre dry.

And is the RPG genre hurting that badly right now? Bloodborne just sold a million units and that was just two months ago.

8am? I'll get to play it for an hour or so at midnight if I preorder it. I'll be playing it within minutes of it releasing.

I still don't really see why I'm not supposed to preorder. Your points are incredibly vague and haven't really said anything specific. As I said earlier in the thread, I've preordered many, many, many games and not once have I regretted specifically preordering a game.

As for industry trends and whatnot, I really don't care. I don't buy things that I don't like, I buy things I like, it's easy.

Yeah, sorry I glanced at the avatar and whilst they aren't really that similar I mistook you for Cruxist.

Well, for many people the game was amazing - me included, even though I like TW1 more

Part of my issue is I think I got too sucked into the hype for it so my expectations couldn't be met. This time I've been playing it safe, so that way I go in with more reasonable expectations.

waiting in line day 1 is just as bad as pre-ordering, the whole concept is to wait and see if the game is actually worth the money before encouraging them

"Guys stop preordering."
"Why?"
"Because I don't like you doing that thing and my situation is applicable to literally everyone here."
"Yeah no thanks."

At what point does it become acceptable to purchase the game? Once reviewers have deemed the game enjoyable? Or should we be allowed to decide whether or not the game is any good ourselves?

I've pre-ordered The Witcher, because personally I've seen enough of it to make me think I'll enjoy it. That's my decision and I understand the risk involved.

It's all incredibly subjective. I err on the side of being against pre-orders because I think they can be manipulative and poorly thought out. That's a general assessment and not indicative of every company.

Plus, I'll be pre-ordering Kingdom Hearts 3 as soon as possible and that's basically vaporware right now. That's the one franchise I literally don't need to know anything about in order to jump on board. That's my area of weakness.

But I'm trying to be a more cautious consumer as of late, and that's influenced my view on this issue.

Whenever the hell you, the consumer, deems it worthy for a purchase. Not when another consumer does for you. When you decide.

I get that Day 1 DLC and other bullshit permeates throughout these past few generations of gaming, but there are tons of games that dwarfs the number of those titles. Hell, you could preorder games back in the PS1 era and STILL get burned. Fuck you Fighting Force.

That's your way, and I respect that. I don't respect one consumer telling others what they should and shouldn't do with their money (in regards to preordering).

Like any AAA game, this one will need plenty of patching to improve performance and fix bugs. Because millions of people will find more bugs than a few hundred testers.

This isn't a multiplayer game that I must own day one so I will wait 3-6 months to get it super cheap and with its best foot forward from a performance and polish standpoint.

Might even wait for GOTY if the DLC is substantial.

There's probably more footage and knowledge about this damned game than almost any other game I can think of in recent memory. I don't think a lot of these preorders are misinformed. I know what I'm getting, anyway.

I agree. I think that there are plenty of people that blindly pre-order and that is bad. I usually don't preorder but I made an exception this time because I trust the developer. Also unlike some, I'm willing to accept responsibility if the game releases broken and wait for it to be patched.

Amazon already had it for $20 off.

For about 10 minutes.

I am very excited for this game, I have somke doubts after seeing some threads here but I will remain optimistic. But seeing how bother witcher 1 and 2 had enhanced editions released I can't help but admit that I would love to the have the paitence to wait.

If I had to guess, it'd PS4 > XBO > Steam > GOG/others.

But who knows, maybe a ton of people on PC have pre-ordered it and the console numbers are lower.

PS4>PC>Xbone.

Digital for PC will be tough to gauge.

Also not surprised to see Pre-Order PR blowing them trumpets.

I'll probably pick this up during a price drop seeing as this isn't ordinarily my type of game but it does look damn good.

I'm usually not too keen on preordering, but the hype build up for this game is of huge proportions and it could end up being very well deserved based on all the gameplay footage I've seen so far. Now the question is, should I go all digital with GoG or preorder the 'Novigrad' steelbook edition from the CDP.pl store? Decisions, decisions...

Not surprising. It looks like it's the Skyrim of this generation.
Fallout 4 will be released way too late
.

Edit: Oops, I meant The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
