Ratchet and Clank (PS4) - First Trailer [Up: 8 minutes of gameplay, $40]

Does it have upgradeable weapons?

If i remember correctly the first didn't have this and it wasn't introduced until going commando so if this is a remake of the first i wonder if it'll be included

Yes, its not just a straight remake of the first game. They'll use what they learned in future installments to improve the game.

I just noticed something, is the area where you are fighting the blargian snagglebeast the same area as the level where you fought the alien queen, the first boss of the original game?

Seems like the combined both bosses because the alien queen also summoned those frog things as well, wondered if they scrapped her.

EDIT: yeah, the area is called G34 here and in the original game. So I guess some locations have been changed which means Qwarks hideout probably will have a different boss or purpose or just doesn't exist.

What I mean by alien queen

I really don't see why 60 fps is a necessity with R&C of all things if I'm being honest

I'm glad Nintendo didn't get Insomniac's memo about why 60fps is unnecessary, especially for a platformer.

But I'm not that kind of gamer going after the twitchy nature, a stable frame-rate is enough for me to deal with the latency control-wise. But 60fps gives anything an extremely nice presentation. That includes turn based games. And having been spoiled by 60fps first Ratchet on PS3, I find this a step back on a PS4. (The graphical advancements of the sub 60fps Ratchets were not really impactful.)

Sure, this looks killer, but it could look killer at 60fps too.

Gahhhh, im so hyped can't stop looking at the thread.

Really excited for IG. Although i loved the artstyle of Sunset Overdrive, it was not my thing after 4-5 hours with it. But this... please inject into my veins. I was not expecting something of this magnitude for R&C when it was first revealed to be coming. Makes me wishful for a Resistance reboot/re-imagining lol. Resistance 3 was freaking amazing.

Awesome that its $40! Going to buy 2 copies for my mates.

Looks gorgeous but I am not day 1. I think they will do the first 3 and bundle it or wait for this to drop in price. Will get it eventually though

I don't buy many western games anymore these days. But Ratchet & Clank is one I absolutely will not miss.

Love the footage - looks stunning (although I have to say I was similarly blown away by Into the Nexus 2 years ago on PS3) and gameplay looks tight. Can't wait.

I like that the Groovitron works on the boss here, but its breakdancing looks deadly.

yeah, i remember it not working on bosses before.

then again, the boss also "attacks" while it dances, so that's a clever way of doing things.

i just hope the bosses have wider range of attacks. that boss fight looks like you can just hang around from far away and shoot the boss nonstop. that's probably one of the things i didn't like about the series is that the boss fights can be too easy if all they do is melee and i use range weapons.

and hopefully difficulty doesn't just mean higher hp.

While it follows the same bones of story (ie Ratchet meets Clank, they have to stop Drek) and visits many familiar locations, almost everything in R&C PS4 has been touched, updated, or is new.

All of the art is new and from scratch, the weapons arsenal is completely different, the controls are modern, the RPG systems are in there now, the AI and enemy set-ups are now built to accomodate for those facts, most areas have completely re-done or brand new gameplay sequences, Clank's gameplay is brand new, flight gameplay is new, James Arnold Taylor plays Ratchet in this game, all of the cinematics and cutscenes are new.

Two very different experiences.
Thank you and everyone at Insomniac for this! If I could have it Day -500 I would but Day 1 will just have to do :)

I'm very very excited for this. I wasn't expecting it too look this good. My jaw has never dropped in surprise to anything but it legit did for the whole 90 seconds of the trailer in shock.

Just because people keep asking, its already been said to be a full length title. Its not cutting down on length because of the price.

Its a shame that a sub 60 dollar game apparently means lesser quality....

Watching the footage makes me realize how much I miss playing a good Ratchet and Clank game. =( Spring 2016 is a looong wait so hopefully it will be worth it.

Also TLOU is not the only game where you can make a direct comparison, there are plenty.

LOU is also not the best example. I compared the PS3 version with the PS4 version running at 30fps, and the PS3 version still felt smoother. I think possibly because it had a greater degree of motion blur.

will the game have cgi cutscenes from the movie or does the movie clips in the trailer just for this trailer only?

I will say without the pre-order wall, the Bouncer wouldn't be in at all. We added it specifically as a pre-order bonus fairly recently! I was so happy we managed to find a way to squeeze it in thanks to that

Do you guys realise that you potentially have a many-times-multi-million-dollar franchise on your hands if both the game and the movie are a success? I mean it could be pretty enormous, for yourselves and for Sony.

Gun behind a pre-order...it's like developers don't even care anymore. I'm glad the game gets a reboot, it looks amazing, but you can't justify poor decisions like that. I'll wait for the complete game once again, thanks.

Glad you guys are giving this another go. Looks fantastic. Hoping this breathes new life into the series and hoping we can get back to the great tag lines.

I remember that lava planet looking super distinct i'm glad they brought it back better than ever. Man the nostalgia at playing this game is awesome.

I'm just confused a little about Ratchet's state of dress.

He's wearing some weird outfit, but in the first game he wasn't wearing anything as it was before he was a commando after beating Drek.

So is it just a customizable outfit or are they changing his look?

I am with you, 60fps all the way, but no so much as to neglect a game, and one looking like this!!

What I don't enjoy is sub 30fps, that shit has to go away!

Gamers "$60 is too much for new releases!"

Dev "Here's a game for $40"

Gamers "Must be a b-tier game. Pass."

So many have been brainwashed...

I think the pricing is likely designed so that parents will be more inclined to buy it for their kids.

The standard sale price for games like Knack, R&C, Sly Cooper etc. should be $40 - I would imagine that would result in greater overall revenue given (a large part of their) target demographic.

I could be wrong but I really get the feeling that this is not just Pixar like in visuals but Pixar like in business model and demographic. As adults that appreciate great design and gameplay and a well written script, that will be there for us, but it's more important that we buy this for the children in our lives. This is a franchise for them to grow up on now that gaming is more mainstream than it has been.

I just hope Sony is on board to make the required business decisions needed for that to work.

Looks amazing. I hope they will bring more Ratchet & Clank to the PS4, but new games, not remakes/reimaginings.

The one thing that still kills me is that in my language Chairman Drek actually translates into Chairman Shit. xD

jstevenson is happy it got in so it seems to me they do care. Sure it could have been free DLC but *shrug*

It really isn't. As proven by Nexus which played and felt exactly the same as the others.

R&C has been my favorite series for a long time. I was apprehensive about the change but after playing Nexus. Realized there wasn't a single difference control wise.
Well this i disagree with. I've played a few hours of Nexus and feel like the framerate hurts the experience. It wasn't a solid 30fps though. It frequently dropped and hitched. Despite really amazing visuals the presentation suffered and shooting simply wasn't as responsive or fun.

If this game can hit an unwavering 30fps it will be fine. Sunset Overdrive runs very well most of the time and gunplay felt fine. I think Insomniac can pull it off.

Unfortunately that's the industry we live in today. We have nobody to blame but ourselves for falling to pre-order culture in the past.
