Rise of the Tomb Raider coming to PC Early 2016. PS4 Holiday 2016

The ridiculous language and mental gymnastics they were using to hide these versions wasn't doing anything. Despite some people insisting on it, the cat has been out of the bag since a couple of days after the game was shown as exclusive.

Might as well reveal it now.
Well yeah, we were able to see right through Microsoft almost instantly, and it was one of the worst kept secrets ever, but even so, an official announcement carries a different kind of weight.

Can't see this game being a console seller so to speak, and it's going up against Fallout 4. Personally I would call it waste of money, but I'm not running Xbox.

A Tomb Raider XB1 in November at $349 with Tomb Raider: DE and RotTR would be a pretty tempting proposition for some people I'm sure. Even moreso if MS does another price drop this fall.

I agree with many of the statements regarding sale potential. If they are releasing that late on PS4, MS must have given them a lot of money.

Yeah, you are right.

I wonder what tripped this press release. Pre-order numbers? Needing to ease investors?
Surely the language on their contract that kept them relatively silent until now would extend until the original release date?

As a PS4 user, I'm not particularly salty about this, but I will say that due to release schedules I would have picked it up Holiday 2015 day one, but Holiday 2016 is going to be Mass Effect time. Since my habits are either purchase Day 1 or wait for $20, I guess I'll see Lara in 2017!

Mass Effect will get delayed tho

I wonder if Square will come out on top after all is said and done. 360 version sales will be interesting as will the actual game.

Kind of feel bad for SE as I can see the PS4 version not selling. People will want to buy a holiday 16 game not a holiday 15 game. My prediction will be that this likely hits the bargain bin pretty quick, even quicker than the first TR.

Good for us gamers but probably not good for SE. They probably got enough from MS to cover that though, hopefully.

I ended up buying the TR reboot twice, so I'll probably end up doing the same thing here. First on the X1, and then whatever the ps4 extra version (you know there's gonna be something) is.

I hope Microsoft didn't pay out too much.

I'm inclined to wait for the PS4 version, which will probably come with DLC. Actually I'm pretty sure I'll do exactly that if I decide I want to buy Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Wait, this is on 360 as well?

Yep, though consisdering the state of last-gen ports at this point (Isn't MKX still coming to last-gen at some point), who knows what that even means.

Game appears to be built on the last game's engine though, so it shouldn't be a disaster.

It would have sold a lot more if it wasn't exclusive. Now it's going to release when the console already has Uncharted 4 and the collection. It's like Square didn't learn anything from last gen when it comes to exclusives. Oh well.

Seriously 1 year :-( Oh well I pass. It would be awesome if Sony releases as part of PS Plus on the release month just to screw with Square.

I just finished Tomb Raider DE on the PS4 earlier this week. It was a fun game, but not anything I need to play at launch, so a year wait won't be hard at all.

Question is will the PS4 version launch for full price or will they give it a lower price point? $60 will hurt a late port (especially if an XB1 GotY version costs $40) but $40 might help a few impulse purchases.

any chance the later ports get exclusive content added to them?

At most, expect DLC to be included.

If it's a good game it'll sell despite all the (imo idiotic) thirst for day 1 and the next big thing. Games often get released much later on some platforms and still sell well.
