Quantum Break Gameplay (Gamescom 2015)

Certainly not. But it looks fantastic. Interestingly, the only thing that is bothering me (I will probably be proven wrong) is the constant use of those time manipulation mechanics. It got a little cumbersome, visually, and quite annoying after a while...

They overused it a bit in the demo for sure. I did not always use MP's bullet time for every encounter back then too.

It's probably also on easy. I imagine in the actually game on harder difficulties there is a limit to that stuff and the enemies don't go down so easily.

It could also be early game stuff so the enemies are basic and when you progress, you start having encounters where the enemies actually fight back and pose a threat.

Yep. They were showing off the time slowing, wave deforming effects, and I can not blame them for doing so.
The other thing that felt off to me, as another forum member rightly pointed out, is the color palette. The game has a very muted one, which gives the whole image a softy-blurry texture that I am not crazy about. But I am nitpicking, really, as this project will end up being the best technical showcase on the Xbox One. As you would expect from remedy...

He pretty much murders them, when he appears to have the power to easily bypass them without harming anyone.

If the character is a murdering asshole, that makes sense. If not...

Well, the Monarch Corporation (or whatever) doesn't exactly seem to be a good business. Especially since the other gameplay we have seen before has them rounding up people and going full on occupation on the city. Unless you want to break this all down Nathan Drake/Uncharted style, it's just a video game excuse to have enemies to kill.

I'm pretty confident you are not that "overpowered" in game when you play it, at least not in beginning. People should remember this is presentation of game, they showed shooting mechanics, upgraded enemies, variety of ways to approach situations, story elements and finally tv series. They didn't choose to show how hard it is or how you die.

Very solid presentation to me at least and story seems very interesting, most intriguing story this gen thus far. And on top of that this game is up there with Uncharted 4 and Horizon visually.

Yeah could be just a bad demonstration but they've all been like this so far. Hopefully we get to see something relatively challenging or not just pure slaughter. It's a tough balance with a character that has powers, I admit. If they're showing things with an unlimited resource of whatever gives you those powers, they should stop. I mean if Second Son can pull off that balance, anyone can.

I wanna see it with my own eyes in person but based on footage I've seen thus far, it's the best looking game I've seen on next gen to this stage. But I'd need to see it eyes on.

Thread has gone to shit.....again...was good, then came the PC port begging and now the X PS4 game looks better.

Insecure fuckbois. Basically.

Game looks awesome. I wonder if they plan to release a live action show before the game comes out as a prelude, just like in Alan Wake.

Hope you are not surprised...this seems to have rather frequently.

Better off just avoiding xbox exclusive topics like this one 99% of the time, they all turn to shit one way or another.

As for the game itself I'm glad they changed the main character. Looks incredible, never had any doubt in Remedy.

Interesting.

Where does this guy below sit in the 'turning another xbone thread to shit' spectrum? Or does he nip under your radar?

IMO ms has shown more original exclusives then Sony for this year and next. Sony had a good E3 show, but the big titles they showed IMO were 66% vaporware...

1. shenmue is years away from being a reality. It was cool for its to.e but the gameplay by today's standard wouldn't hold up.
2. The last gaurdian was the same demo shown years ago on ps3. It's probably years from being ready if they couldn't show anything new.
3. FF7 remake. It was the most amazing game when it released but a remake doesn't resonate with me. It's cool, but I'd prefer less remakes and more new things to see.

These were the biggest titles Sony had at e3. Outside of uncharted, what else does the ps4 have?

MS/Remedy are doing this game a disservice by still not having direct feed gameplay out. That B roll footage was great but I want the whole thing.

They're usually petty good about getting this stuff out there.

Some gifs from the high quality video. Shame it is so short.

Just Stunning!

Welp. I've totally lost interest in this game after that gameplay footage. It's everything I feared it to be. There seems to be no real depth to the time mechanics. It gets old after a minute. And the effects are WAYYY overdone that it's distracting and hard to watch, let alone play. Technically, it looks fantastic though

Edit: Holy shit I guess I'm in quite the minority here.

I generally agree with you. However, I'm someone who largely enjoyed Alan Wake for its atmosphere and found the combat to be one of its weak points, so I wasn't expecting anything great out of their next game in that regard. I'd love to be proven wrong, of course.

Yeah they've certainly nailed the atmosphere and lighting (though the palette could use a little more color). Can't believe they are pulling all that off plus tons of visual effects and still manage to look so clean

I'm assuming you trigger the time during the arena fights, but there's also cutscene triggered points to create interesting platform sections.

Last year demo was meh but this year I was blown away. The character changes were a great move IMO. The previous character looked so bland & generic. Little finger as the villain! Lt Daniels!! Let's face it, for a cinematic 3PS, Naughty Gods have set the bar so high u have to leap or get lost. And no disrespect to Troy Baker but I'm tired of Troy baker being the lead in every damn game.

The gameplay, u have to make a character OP in a demo. Besides its their game, they should be God like in it. Remedy has never let us down before why would they now.

game of the show for me

Definitely got infamous vibes and I loved it. This game looks amazing and another reason for me to be happy I have an xbox one besides Halo 5.

I was really hoping they'd show something other than shooting. I just wanna see a guy walking through an atmospheric town.

Keep hearing about this one, Never played Alan Wake or anything.

If this turns out good then it'll be a solid addition to the lineup.

I've got TO1886 vibes, I mean: cinematic - shooting - cinematic - shooting.

All with nice graphics and effects. And always at the sunset, dawn (for the blue/orange colours) and night

You could be right in the end – but I don't think you have any basis on which to say that from this video.

A) the gameplay clearly has god mode turned on. There are moments where he stands still to showcase an effect while bullets are ripping through him. The sprinting through every encounter won't be an option in the full game, especially on variable difficulties, because you'll have to move back and forth a lot more

B) The purpose of the video is to make the gameplay look as thrilling and flashy as humanly possible. If you took footage of the exact same bit with a random member of the audience playing it, it would probably happen very differently. They'd probably be in cover a lot, probably experiment with time powers more slowly and more often. You can see some of the sections were actually pretty large, with wings or alleys off to each side, but the player just walked in a straight line shooting guys.

Your post is like judging a two-hour action movie from a five-second teaser, relatively. Assuming QB is 14 hours long and this gameplay is a few minutes, that's probably a similar parallel.

i love all the generic 3rd person shooter comments. this looks way better than any 3rd person shooter i've ever seen with lots of new and unique gameplay. really not sure how this gets shit on while other 3rd person shooters (wont name names) get no such backlash.

<3 remedy

Now this, on the other hand, is an exaggeration. Imo this game is clearly not a generic third person shooter, but in no way is it better than any one I've ever seen. Graphically, inFamous Second Son is similar quality (though nowhere near as flashy/busy), but in gameplay... Even Max Payne 2 was similar in style and badass gunfights.

This is my true fear.

As much as Alan Wake was great, Remedy haven't managed to nail Max Payne 1 or 2's phenomenal encounter or level design yet. There were entire levels in Max Payne 2 you could get through without seeing a single cutscene or a scripted event. It would literally just be a long, usually complex/interconnected sequence of rooms with enemies in them. You just had to find, and fight, your way through.

I hate level design in most action games, and I'm worried Quantum Break is going to be another case of great mechanics, great simulation, great story, but shitty level/encounter design that ruins the entire thing.

Fictional element explanation, away:

Relative time displacement. Freeze everything around a certain point while time keeps flowing in a controlled area.

Can also be used to stop the location displacement of an object while keeping its relative time running. For example, throw a rock in the air and wait for it to start falling back down. Freeze its relative position by locking time around it, while keeping time flowing on the rock. Acceleration due to gravity continues. Eventually, the rock hits terminal velocity while never having moved an inch. Unfreeze world time, rock is now propelling faster than a goddamn bullet.

Keep it going long enough and the rock will have built up enough energy to go nuclear and shift into plasma.

That last bit is more physics speculation because I don't know exactly what would happen if something fell forever.

:O

The demo really blew me away. Highlight of the show for me, and confirmed it as my most anticipated Xbox One exclusive

Everything in this game is so fucking awesome.

April 2015 needs to get here now!!!!, My X1 is ready :)
