Uncharted Collection demo up in PS Store Worldwide

Ok I've had a chance to sit down and play it for a bit. My thoughts:

- Graphics look great
- Frame rate is solid - I actually forgot about the frame rate when I started playing, and it felt pretty smooth, but I didn't really realize why at first.
- People are saying the gunplay is clunky. I'd like to know what they mean by that, as I find the gunplay much more responsive. Almost too easy. I was nailing head shots with my pistol right away, and I haven't played an UC game in years. If this is clunky, I think some people's standards are too high.

Negatives:
- Few AI glitches I ran into - most notably, when you first enter the window at the start a guard is supposed to come over and you can take him out with stealth melee. For me, 3 guards came over, and proceeded to stare out the window, and didn't move for 2 minutes, making it impossible for me to stealth.

I'll have to spend more time with it to form more opinions, but I'm liking what I'm seeing so far. People need to remember it's a remaster, not a remake. They touched up the graphics and performance, made the feel of the controls a bit more consistent, but it's still a dressed up PS3 game at its core. Anyone expecting different doesn't know what a remaster is.

The 60 frames and that coupled with the DS4 sure feels like a breath of fresh air but Uncharted 2 was definitely better looking in my mind.

It is scary how fast something becomes somewhat outdated. Not to say this is an ugly game, not by a longshot.
Well UC2 came out in 2009 so its been awhile. :p

Tried the demo, it's the first time I've played any Uncharted game.

Basically every opinion I held about the series was confirmed.

It's a simple floaty shooter with gigantic setpieces where your biggest contribution is holding up on the left stick and occasionally pressing A. Also the banter between Chloe and Drake was quite irritating because it felt like every line that could be jammed in there was jammed in there. Nearly quit when I jumped into the pool and the marco polo dialogue went exactly as I expected.

Anyway, I'm glad this demo came out and let me confirm that this series is not for me. In fact I'm pretty sure a lot of people like it because they didn't play the better controlling TPS series - Gears of War.

It looked pretty good for a PS3 port though.

Thanks for sharing. Gears of War fan hates Uncharted. News at 11.

As it stands, the Photo Mode is glitched as hell. I know it is the same Photo Mode as The Last of Us Remastered but it somehow doesn't work the same way. Camera can get stuck a lot of times during closeup and I have to restart the Photo Mode to fix this issue.

After playing Gears of War Ultimate Editiom a few weeks ago as well as currently running through The Last of Us Remastered for fun, UC2 doesn't feel quite as good.

It doesn't have the satisfying crunch of the former or visceral action of the latter.

Movement feels floaty, particularly coming from Metal Gear Solid V.

However, I still enjoyed it and very much look forward to playing through the collection.

lol. I turned on that series pretty hard after Gears 2. Your use of 'fan' and 'hates' there are pretty lovely.

Also the controls could use some work. Using the FOV tab to essentially zoom in is a bit much.

To be fair these games were fresh when they came out. The characters, story, setpieces are what make these games fun to watch.

If your looking for a straight up TPS shooter, then these games are not for you. Gears of war, Dead space and the likes are about shooting mostly, with some puzzles thrown in.

Uncharted is 1 part shooting, 1 part traversal, and 1 part movie like experience. If you want to play strictly TPS then look at gears, max payne or something.

These games are not all about shooting. SHooting is one part of a much bigger whole.

What you call floaty, I call super-responsive. Something all other games in this genre more or less lack. In Uncharted games, you can quickly navigate the terrain like nowhere else, and yet feel like you're in total control.

Yep that what makes them so awesome to me.

I have yet to find the A button on a playstation controller.

To add to this, as I mentioned on the previous page, it doesn't seem like it works while something is blowing up either. I tried to enable photo mode several times while blowing up propane tanks and it wouldn't work, just gave me the red circle/ thing that shows up during cut scenes.

I'm hoping it's just a glitch.

Always liked the UC story mode but the shooting always feels so tame to me. Never for me as good as Gears . My opinion . Plus the MP never got me due to my love of Gears . Sorry fanboy or not. I'll wait for UC4. Thanks for the feedback so far guys .

Is this "Confirmation Bias: The Post"? You even use the word "confirm" multiple times. Hard to believe you could actually type out those first two sentences without giving pause:

Then you have to go and belittle anyone who would have the gall to enjoy the series, presuming they must be simpletons who hadn't experienced the superior TPS experience and therefore can't have a proper view on the genre or their own tastes.

The uncharted games are older, and nothing redone to the point of Gears of war ultimate.

They are what they are, if you can still enjoy them for the character and stories I feel it's worth the admission price alone.

Uncharted were never tough-ted to be a great TPS, they are just fun adventure games. The last of us has some solid third person shooting, but it's not about being TPS, more about the story and exploring the world/levels they built.

Just played it, it was pretty good, but man I'm definitely surprised how much it has aged in such a short time.

Obviously it looks super crisp and clean, but it just doesn't... pop like I remember it. And the animations compared to something like the demo of Uncharted 4 or The Last of Us are really a step down, Drake's feet don't really seem to connect with the ground, it's kind of strange.

Either way I'm definitely going to pick up the trilogy because I love these games, but it was definitely kinda surprising how much good old Uncharted 2 seems to have aged in a few short years.

First time playing?

Nah, third.

I did really enjoy the demo and still feel Uncharted 2 is Naughty Dog's best game. The tone, characterisation and pacing are second to none in my opinion.

However, as a game I prefer the more deliberate movement of Gears of War and The Last of Us. I came straight off the latter to play this demo so perhaps that's what made it feel so jarring?

It felt good it just didn't feel as satisfying as those other games I mentioned, in my opinion. Melee combat, again, coming from The Last of Us, felt off.

Quick edit: Competely agree with what everyone who has quoted me has said. I'm still looking forward to it but the way it felt, just kind of surprised me. Particularly as I felt Uncharted 2 was the tightest of all the games.

Still, I don't think they picked a particularly great part to show off and I'm sure I'll acclimatise to the feel of it within an hour.

It doesn't work when you aim. Weird decision =/

It does work when we blow the propane tanks.

The trick is to aim, shoot and then quickly release and enter Photo Mode

As pointed out 6 years is a long time and with the change in hardware it would be utterly shocking if it didn't look fairly dated - even TLoU remaster shows its age. It just makes you think about how good U4 will look.

The mix of confirmation bias, with the sprinkle of "people must like it because of _____" really is a fun mix when it shows up every once in a while.

Nothing wrong with disliking the game, to be clear.

I don't remember Gears of War having similar traversal areas or puzzle solving. That said I don't even think applying that feel/control to Uncharted games would work.

Are you coming from the 360? Uncharted was never known for its controls or shooting mechanics (neither was TLOU frankly), it's a combination of story telling, character development, set pieces, puzzle solving, shooting, and traversal.

It's extremely hard to get all of that right, no one looks at GTA and says its a bad game because it has terrible controls so it's garbage.

"So this is the game everyone praised compared to my favorite? It sucks. I didn't like it. I knew I wouldn't which is why I never played them."

I've played games on the consoles I didn't own and was able to have fun.

The demo should have had the more open shootout that takes place just after this demo to attract shooty bang bang fans. It's the next best example of UC2's gunplay right next to its multiplayer.

It is tame. But the game is supposed to be a fun romp, where you more or less knock your enemies out and move on, not brutally dismember them in upclose gory detail like in Gears or TLOU.

I can agree that the focus is on different things. It was just strange to me to see that a series so hugely acclaimed controls so much worse in the shooting sections than any other good TPS from the previous generation. Traversal controls are fine I guess but the demo barely showed them off. At least that's what I'd like to think. Was expecting something better considering all that hype. I'm very much a gameplay first kind of guy so that's the main thing that interests me.

Not really coming from the 360, although I did get the PS3 late 2013 (TLoU & GT6 bundle).

Nathan Drake Collection: Uncharted 2 Demo

Just a short playthrough of the demo. It's only 720p, unfortunately, as it was recorded directly via the Share button. I am hoping to get some sort of proper capture hardware/software so I can record in 1080p/60FPS. Anyway, even at 720p, you can tell there's one hell of a difference between the PS3 and PS4 versions.

True but it is still seen as one of the best looking titles ever made on the PS3, and rightly so.
This is the kind of thing that proves all this talk of "graphic improvements in ps4 gen are meh" is all bullshit. UC2 looked far more aged than I remember it being.

IMO it has better controls than pretty much any other TPS game I can think of. Character instantly and speedily goes where I want it to go while at the same time moving fairly realistically - which in itself is very impressive if you think how contradictory it is. There's no ten foot turning radius, and the game is not 'cheating' by almost never showing you character's feet like just about everything else (and then when you get to see their feet, they look comically disconnected from the ground). You can do so much, so quickly in Uncharted games - and while you can play it in a simple stop&pop cover shooter fashion, doing that, you're missing a lot that the game offers in terms of gameplay.

Wasn't too impressed with the demo, then again I wasn't gonna get it day 1 anyway.
Maybe it's just me but everyone looks kind of like play-doh it's weird. Maybe it's my TV settings.

I've never really compared gears to uncharted myself. uncharteds traversal is quite a bit more varied with jumping, vaulting, rolling, hanging, climbing, stealth, verticality, yanking guys off ledges etc etc. I think naturally Gears is going to feel a little more grounded and tight since the core gameplay is more focused.

You should've been here when UC3 got release with basically broken controls and still some defended them until ND announced a patch. 3 never felt feel right even after that, 2 controlled perfectly fine but yeah, compared to stuff like Max Payne, Vanquish or even Binary Domain it's nothing special.

Gears is not in UC2's league. Gears is a straight forward poorly designed stop and pop shooter that is fun for a while.

That was quick. lol

Different games with different strengths.

Heard Greg and Colin say they didn't touch up UC1's shooting, can anyone confirm? Seems like a missed opportunity.
