Until Dawn developer: sales “surpassed expectations,” sequel is being talked about

That's awesome.

It's like a David Cage game that's actually good and without pretension. Proof that people like these kinds of games if they are done well.

"It was just a prank, Han." is the best line in the entire game.

LOL nah man the best line is

Yes, this is great news. Played it twice already and loved both playthroughs. I do hope they keep using the Killzone engine because it seems to lend itself so well for the beautiful and at the same time creepy atmosphere Super Massive created. Again, great news.

It's true that Until Dawn received a broader acclaim, but I remember Heavy Rain doing not too shabby either.

I am so thrilled to hear this. I finally got to playing Until Dawn last week and I. Just. Could. Not. Stop. Playing! I wound up getting the Platinum and I had such a blast the whole time. The first playthrough was such a fantastic ride for... Reasons
the jump scares
. And the use of the PlayStation Camera was genius!

I will support anything SuperMassive Games from here on out. I hope they are at PlayStation Experience again, so I can lavish them with praise in person.

This is great news. Just started playing yesterday and loving it so far apart from

NO INVERT CONTROLS option

Seriously. Patch it in guys.

Expected after hearing places were selling out. Kind of a surprise I imagine, kind of like the game. I dont like these kinds of games usually, but between the writing and performances and hilarious ways to get your folks killed, I thought it was a hoot.

I'm glad they're open to other genres - but Until Dawn hit so many tropes, Im not sure a sequel would feel very fresh. I'd love them to use the engine for a sci-fi or spy game ... Or even a mixed genre type -- think of something like Lost or the X-Files done in this manner.

YES gimme, absolutely LOVED this game (better be horror/slasher as well tho)

It's also hilarious that two of my currents goty are cinematic games (Life is Strange being the other) since this is easily my most hated genre in gaming lol

Is it just me or are A-AA (as opposed to AAA) games starting to make a comeback this gen? I feel like this would have bombed on the PS3, I'm so glad it's been successful the devs truly deserve every penny.
1) Until Dawn is very much AAA
2) Why would it have bombed on PS3 considering Heavy Rain sold better and had pretty much the same release situation?

People also liked Heavy Rain you know. Probably even more so, considering reviews and sales.

ahahhaahhahha...i genuinely laughed out loud. GOAT eye roll!

His performance as Josh was excellent. In the end I felt so bad for Josh because of what happens to him and his
sisters
. He gets no redemption, he either gets
his head squash or turns into a wendigo
.
Yeah, Josh, Mike and Sam were my favorite actors. Mike had some really great lines by himself with wolfie and examining what happened to the miners.

Josh is getting tied up and all like "Well, If I just WIIIGGLEE ARROUNDD!!"

lol!

They were all great, except Emily.

Beat the game last night, the sales are truly deserved. I would love to see a famous horror ip get a game like this, such as Friday the 13th.

Speaking of Heavy Rain, I'm sure the guys over at Quantic Dream are chuffed that the PS4 has already proven it has an audience for these types of games. Until Dawn is explicitly influenced by Heavy Rain, and it'll make whatever QD are working on an easier sell most probably.

Everyone who I've dealt with who is looking for big Playstation 4 exclusives has this right near the center of their list, it's no shocker that it'd be doing so well.

Good stuff.

I'm really excited for everyone invoved. Even though sony just let this one drop out there with almost 0 fanfare it managed to hold it's own. Biggest surprise of 2015 for me.

That's great. I thought this was a super high quality work. A sequel that expands on the game's "illusion of choice" concept to the same degree of quality they did it here would be amazing. I understand that a lot of people found on replays that things are more restrictive than they appear, but during that first playthrough...yeah I could not believe how tense I felt.

On the other hand whatever QD does will be compared to until dawn.
But as the saying on Gaf goes: competition is good for the consumer.

I'm not really sure how they can make a sequel out of this, it would be great if we could load up save and have an impact on the new adventure but there are so many outcomes it can't be done... At first I thought they could go for the Saw-like sequels with most of the cast of an episode dying but still keeping a continuity with reccuring characters but there are none available left in Until Dawn.

Wtf? I made this exact thread two days ago and not a single reply.

I'll have to get a
Wendigo
after you...

Even so, I'm stoked to see the possibility of a sequel and the success of the game.

I actually posted my thread a couple of minutes before you did yours.

And please don't mention spoilers without bars. I still haven't played the game yet.

It's not really competition so much as coexisting. By the time QD's PS4 game comes out, I'd imagine Supermassive's next game will still be a ways off.

They sure did it better than any other developper but I'm not sure if it can be done again with the same degree of quality. The moments where the game make sure some events lead to the same outcome weren't that obvious in the first playthrough (except for some) but the mechanisms are known now, they can't really use the same tricks twice.

I don't remember this scene.. how can it be unlocked?

If Emily don't get shot by Mike when she is bitten (not sure if you are always bitten), then Ashely read the book which says being bitten does nothing and the choice of revealing it to the rest of the group triggers this scene

Oh gawd, don't call it 'Until Dawn' 2. Hopefully this is just what we're calling it until something solidifies, because....

The story could continue without calling it Until Dawn...2.

Unless we're going to see more of Hannah in the sequel - there's nothing in the game that warrants such a naming convention.

And even considering a premise that involves everyone who survived - and even if Supermassive is taking notes from games like Mass Effect with previously saved game data, enumerating games instead of naming games just seems a bit inadequate, and lazy...just saying ;)
