I think I beat everything. Went in blind, killed both of the 'bosses'. The
the guy that causes frost bite
was pretty tough.

Where can I white list my account? I was chosen and got the code.

Edit: ok got it, but I can't log inin to the game server. Ffs

Man, if this game has an underlying coordinate/character placement checker, it seems A LOT better than ds2. No teleporting/hitching/short warping at all on the Peeve/Oro stream.

Waiting for the shoe to drop when retail hits.

I didn't really notice any glitches but the camera would spaz out every now and then.

All-in-all that was awesome. There wasn't too much lag on the servers either for PvP (a spike here-and-there)

Man what is this shitfest? I just stayed up all night to play this and bamco fucked this up because of psn ID registration! Jesus Christ give me that dark souls!

Welp. End of night 1.

Fingers crossed that From shows mercy on us dishonorable plebs at least for one night.

Btw, Oro's crew discovered that you can only invade people who have white phantoms in their world. Let's hope that doesn't make it into retail.

The extra player out in Oro's party of five (usually Peeve) only crossed paths with the rest of the group by chance once. No red soap stone (unlike the DS2 test) made for fifth wheel shenanigans :(

And we're done.

Got to play for 30 minutes... didn't find a boss yet, but I love the complexity of the architecture thus far. Will be sitting here before 11 tomorrow so I can explore the whole time.

Yeah it's interesting that you have to have someone summoned to be invaded, especially since on the DkS3 cbt site it states the exact opposite...

Cannot Invade

If the world you want to invade is in a multiplayer state (at least one co-op player), you cannot invade that world.

Maybe a bug/error?

Played as the first build tonight. Beat the first boss and spent the rest of the time invading.

Well, attempting to invade. I only connected to 5 people.

What is this I hear about a second boss? I stopped exploring after the first assuming this was it.\

Had a few bugs. Enemies seemed to teleport attack up inclines. Example a dog is on the bottom of stairs and one frame later it is on the top of the stairs where I am imitating an attack.

I also had some wierd glitches that involved what I can only describe as draw distance based spawning/ position resetting of enemies.

I can't *believe* these lazy developers keep making file sizes so damn large. Btw, how does technology work?
Managed to play for about two hours.

After not touching it until months after release - and as someone who has never played a Souls game before - Bloodborne quickly became one of my Top Ten favorite games of all time. So I was interested in trying Souls for the first time with this Dark Souls III beta.

First off, opening to the "daylight" at the beginning was an odd an unexpected feeling compared to Bloodborne's night sky. I know it's pretty common in these games, but for me felt kind of funny.

Did the build with the spear first. Ran around, died a few times - was struggling to lock on. It just wasn't working at all at first. All of a sudden, R3 worked and I was on my way. Throughout the stress test, the camera was frustrating on several occasions already. Tight corridors and multiple enemies just completely bugged the thing out.

That said, combat felt immediately familiar. I've heard impressions that DSIII is a lot faster than older games - and for me, it wasn't difficult to immediately acclimate after BB. I was dodging and rolling like nobody's business. Honestly, I'd blame 70% of my deaths on the camera, 10% on me fiddling with the controls, and 20% on me just sucking or not avoiding getting ganged up on. That said, everything was visceral and fun. It's early - so I'm not complaining - but I had several instances of enemies "floating" on the ground as they attack me, and/or teleporting through corners of walls and whatnot.

Game looks great - framerate had some issues - 90% of the time it was playable; but it still dropped considerably on multiple occasions. Gotta say, in this VERY short experience, though; I absolutely prefer the aesthetics of Bloodborne. Too early to make such a sweeping statement - and I'm sure this will grow on me quickly - but I definitely felt way more atmosphere playing BB - more fear, more weariness, darkness, etc.

The map design was clearly unfinished and intentionally blocked off in places for the stress test, so can't complain there. What was there was already very varied, though - loved the verticality of it all.

Didn't fight the dragon, lol. But did fight the "second(?)" boss and kicked ass my first try - that was a fun go - didn't expect it.

Overall some clear performance issues and I personally don't immediately love the atmosphere like I did Bloodborne's. That said, I had fun - and that's ultimately what matters; and there was a lot to like even with just a small taste.

Maybe it's supposed to say "If the world you want to invade is NOT in a multiplayer state (at least one co-op player), you cannot invade that world."

Did anyone else find the gold pine resin a bit useless, it only seemed active for a very short amount of time?

I only used it a little but it seems like one of the ways DkS3 switches up the usual formula is that resin goes on very fast but only lasts a couple hits. Maybe it'll be cheaper/more plentiful? I dunno if it has a duration of effect or if it goes away only after a couple hits or both.

I think it would be alright if you didn't need to scroll through so much junk between your estus and the resin. That will obviously be improved in the final game where we will be able to use the inventory, but it is really quite useless here since the effect seems to have gone by the time you get back to estus. Unless it lasts for a certain number of hits (2 I would think). But then the inventory still makes it a hassle.

Easy_D

never left the stone age
The lore hunter in me is going crazy over a no hollow form. Maybe it's just for the stress test.

Really confused me for a moment lol.

If the player character is a Lord of Cinder, they never had the curse in the first place, since the lords were all dead and revived somehow. Undead can't die.

Edit: Wait no, Gwyn was hollow :lol. Maybe because you're essentially linked with the flame you have a steady supply of humanity?

Edit #2: Just saw gameplay of a dude with a cape. Oh my god the cape physics look so good

it's true that you have more ''liberty'' in Dark Souls, you can fight the skeletons or the ghosts at level 1 if you wish to do so. still, once you reach the church in Bloodborne you can get into a lot of ''alternate routes'' and optional stuff, the game isn't really linear.

Yeah no, it is pretty linear. Let's take your example with Cathedral Ward. Upon your first arrival there, you can either go to Old Yharnam or use the Emblem to open the big gate. Old Yharnam is a dead-end, so sooner or later you'd find your way back to the big gate. From there on, you can go to Hemwick's or straight to Amelia. Again, Hemwick's is a dead-end. So you got two "optional" areas that result in a dead-end and then proceed to Amelia. After that, it becomes pretty linear again with the Woods, Byrgenwerth, Hidden Village, etc. There's two optional areas with a dead-end, and that's it.

It's not as interconnected as I thought, to be honest. I hope in Dark Souls 3 you'll be able to take different paths at the beginning that don't result in dead-ends, but rather make you progress differently, much like Firelink in Dark Souls 1.

Cheers! Was the
winged executioner the fat guy
before the boss? Where do I look?

No. He respawns.

I don't know what the
winged executioner
is. Unless it's the
red eyed halberd dude
but I never checked to see if he respawned.

Also, I invaded someone's game last night, can't remember the exact name but when I got in there were 3 people and it said something like "something Black? Assassin summoned" And there was a black phantom running around with them. I only saw that kind once.

winged executioner
is that guy, he has tiny little wings

Does anynone remember where they key for the cell leading to the "frost" Knight is?

It's in the big room with multiple enemies, above the courtyard where the
winged executioner
patrols. Look around and you'll find a set of stairs leading down to the key. I was stupid and missed it yesterday because I didn't thoroughly investigate the room.

Before i give up. Can someone tell me if its possible to get my NA psn account white listed if...

* Didnt win lottery
*But have code and have redeemed and installed stress test

Yoshichan

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
Will a new wave of codes show up anytime soon? I still can't believe I didn't get one.

I'll finally play it today, can't wait!

And unfortunately you can't roll while running if you have jump set to O. From pls

I guess I'm getting tired of the formula after playing Demon's Souls, Dark Souls 1 & 2 and Bloodborne, other than the atmosphere and the artsy design of it all, I wasn't impressed with what I played of the Beta. Summoned 3 guys yesterday, took down a invader with them and explored a lot of the area, then one got killed by falling of a roof, another got killed by god knows what and the other returned to his world after what I'm guessing is getting lost. I got defeated afterwards by another invader that was spamming Estus to heal. Is it me or did the animation got shorter? The time it took me to do the jump attack, he had already replenished his life.

Reads like fun times to me!

Reads like fun times to me!

Yeah it was, just wasn't impressed. If my hype was at a 9 out of 10, I would say it's now at a 4 after having played it for a bit more than a hour last night. Didn't go up against any bosses though, so I'll try to do that tonight or tomorrow and see if my impressions get any better after that.

i feel u ^ but honestly the fun in souls games comes from saving your progress, getting more souls and items and customizing your character; as a stand alone arcade game like the demo is it's not really going to give you any satisfaction compared to when you're going to have access to an enormous pile of things to do and get. the demo is pretty cool for pvp at least even though it's unbalanced.

It felt like DS1 infused with bloodborne for me. Almost a perfect game.

Will be getting on PC I think though. Framerate a bit ropey at times.

try holding up your shield while running, that worked in dks1

A streamer tested it yesterday, doesn't work. I'll have to use jump on the left stick.

I really don't get why they wouldn't make it work the same way as Dark Souls 1, it's much better imo. I hate pressing the sticks to do basic movements in games.

It isn't possible sorry, you need to register your PSN ID on the test's site, which is cleverly hidden from people who were actually chosen anyway.

I'm going to be pretty disappointed if FROM doesn't update they're white-list for tonight, I got a bit screwed over.

Because it makes no sense to tie both the jump function and the roll function to the same button. I mean, this

And unfortunately you can't roll while running if you have jump set to O. From pls

is the whole point. You couldn't roll while sprinting (unless you held up a shield at the same time) in Dark Souls because pressing O would result in a jump.
