Black Ops 3 pre-orders are significantly higher than Advanced Warfare

Keep in mind the preorders for AW were down 50% from Ghosts so it might not be an accomplishment. But given how AW surpassed it, I think we can say the series isn't in any kind of danger. They probably won't hit the sales peak of MW3 but Blops3 might have a chance, being the first entry from a subseries established on last gen.

Well to be fair Infinity Ward was killed... maybe the janitor of old still works there ;).

They brought back the lead multiplayer designer from Respawn.

Splitscreen zombies is a blast in Black Ops 1 and 2. Campaign for BO 3 didn't look great from what I saw, but I could wrong. Regardless, this game is going to sell better than the last two.

Zombies was the only mode I seriously played in those games. The regular deathmatch was fun, but I couldn't devote time it (didn't own the console).

If you are referring to Todd Alderman he already left and is now at Riot :/

Edit: Actually I am not sure. From the Goeff Keighley Titanfall piece it says they had 4 lead designers on Cod4/MW2 and they all went on to join Respawn. Two of them left midway through production. One joined Naughty Dog and is working on Uncharted 4 and the multiplayer guy, Todd Alderman, also left. He then apparently joined Infinity Ward again but his linkedin says he is at Riot? However, I just looked at the employee page on http://www.respawn.com/company/ and he is back on there so I think he is at Respawn again lol

Not suprising. AW was really bad when it came to balance and lag. Everyone loves Black Ops and 3 is looking to be the best CoD in years, probably ever tbh.

Say what!? My god man... the pistols in AW were some of the most powerful, if not the most powerful, in any CoD. They were glorious. It was the rest of the game that was bleh lol

Outside of the RW-1 I thought the pistols were complete garbage. That gun I did adore though.

that puzzling face
I wonder how much of it has to do with IW becoming shit and how much of it is due to Treyarch becoming better. I believe that they were always great, but because they were in the shadows of IW, majority didn't really notice how good they were until IW was gone, that and they really seem to try new things with each games.

Personally I felt that CoD3 was simply inferior to CoD2, and WaW was simply inferior to CoD4, in everything from animation to campaign pacing, to multiplayer balance and fun, to overall cohesive vision. Black Ops still had a little bit of jank here and there especially being compared to MW2, but past that, MW3 pretty much showed that IW was struggling, and Black Ops 2 really hit the high C in terms of execution.

I think it's both.

I haven't played the beta or anything. Does BO3 have the exo-suits that were in Advanced Warfare? I hated those damn things.

To me, this should be a given.

This game is, by leaps and bounds, a better package than what we've gotten in the last several years. Tons of content, a great MP beta, nothing really but good buzz surrounding it...

All adds up to a game that's going to sell very well and review about the same.

They've had a good advertising campaign for this and there is a ton of content, so pre-orders follow. It doesn't feel like a lazy installment based off of what they've shown. It's easy to think that people are stupid and don't notice these things, but they do.

I hope it's good.

That's great, as Ghosts and AW felt more like filler games while 3arc was making BO3.

This game looks good, but I think it might be the first CoD I miss simply because of Halo 5 and Fallout 4.

Was gonna skip this year but then I read about the split-screen campaign. Preordered right away.

Sorta hoping more people thought like me and this sends a signal to other studios that split is very nice indeed to have in a game.

If it wasn't for the FO4 coming out so soon I would be all over this game. Haven't played CoD for something like 4 years but hearing about the amount of content + splitscreen (omg) makes me want to jump in again.

Blops3 MP looks like Blops2... which was the last good MP game. Treyarch know what they are doing and have been doing this for a while. They aren't at OG IW level, but they are still a really good developer in their own right.

Something Sledgehammer and Ghosts know nothing about is creating good maps with good flow with little to no visual noise. Ghosts is so guilty for visual noise it makes the maps laughably bad, especially the Shipment remake.

Like the good Ian Malclolm said,

...but you wield it like a kid that's found his dad's gun...it didn't require any discipline to attain it. You read what others had done and you took the next step. You didn't earn the knowledge for yourselves, so you don't take any responsibility for it. You stood on the shoulders of geniuses to accomplish something as fast as you could...

His LinkedIn looks way out of date, they announced him coming back in March 2015.

Not really a surprise, Treyarach are not only the best COD studio but Blops2 was the highest selling game in the series by a mile and still the most played online.

Man, I remember years ago when the groupthink was so down on Treyarch versus Infinity Ward. What a reversal.

I'm glad this has happened. People actually laughed at me back then as though I was crazy for liking black ops 1 and 2 over mw2 and mw3.

According to Activision, Advanced Warfare was up YoY vs Ghosts, so technically I guess the decline ended already. Of course BO3 will likely destroy AW numbers.

That being said BO3 will likely be tough for IW and Sledgehammer to top.

Oh did it? Had no idea.
Hate how ATVI keeps obfuscating these numbers >_<

Good!

Ghosts and AW were bad games and deserved the lower sales.

I dunno about "deserved" but games that arent as good clearly dont do as well. I thought those 2 games were bad COD games. Last good one i played was BO2. So heres hoping.

Mind you, i did enjoy the MP beta very much. Felt more traditional and the maps were great. I dont see how it wont do well.

haven't been excited for a COD for so long

this game looks refined with good content.... also still going strong with 4 player splitscreen like all main CODS (which sadly in this day and age is a blessing as more and more FPS series drop such a feature)

I liked AW, wish I had more time to play it. I was under the impression it was popular and fairly well liked.

I think it's the BO name that is driving this. It's almost like BO has supplanted MW as the primary COD subfranchise.

Weird how many people hate on AW. It was the first CoD in years that multiplayer hooked me again. To each their own I suppose.

Anyone know review embargo time for BLOPS3?

So i just went to GameStop and pre-ordered the Digital Deluxe version for PS4... how to i pre-load... i'm not seeing a code on the receipt... do i have to go pick something up there physically?! WTF did i just pay for lol

Kinda hyped for Blops and haven't played CoD seriously in a while. Looking to recreated that magic from MW2. Multiplayer was crazy fun.

BLOPS III is a sequel to one of the best selling entertainment products of all time, and made by the most respected team, and it doesn't even have the problem AW had, where Ghosts' lower reviews hurt the next versions' sales.

This could have crazy high sales.

Not suprising when you consider:

- This is the sequel to one of the best CoDs to date (BO2)

- The game is known to be offering a ton of game modes

- AW, while not great, was better received than Ghosts

- The game had a playable Beta that showed the developers were committed

- The PC version is getting much better support than other CoDs

I think MW2 and Blops 1 had the best maps. I hope Blops 3 takes inspiration from those.
Most MW2 maps wouldn't work well (too wide open).

BO1 maps were good, but just hope they don't take BO1 for weapon balance inspiration.
