NPD Sales Results for November 2015 [Up3: Combined Hardware For PS4 + XB1 + Wii U]

aside from BB you can get the other games on the competing platform and BB is similar to 1 more game on other platforms, my point was, we yet dont have uncharted 4 or a new god of war or a great killzone, things that you would think will pull people in, i dont know, it just seems crazy to me how incredibly good the ps4 is selling, it really is breaking records
The fact that those games exist on other platforms does not matter. People are buying PS4s because they want to play said games in one. Not that hard to understand.

So October is probably the last time we will ever see X1 win the month right?
Well, Microsoft have spent their biggest card of the generation with Halo 5 now and it didn't do much of a dent.

The only things they could do at this point is... lowering price to $199 or get full-on exclusivity with something gigantic ala GTA.

I don't see Gears + $299 being a higher incentive then the deals they were running this BF with a brand new Halo.

Like what?

The early months tend to be lean and you can see the odd promo prevailing. Gears if released in October without any real competition could move some bundles. Like allan said, too many variables.

Hi guys. Give me a second to make a post, I'm at work.

Like at the top of the next page or something.

Third party support is actually what sells consoles, not exclusives. Plus there is rabid loyalty to the PS brand and they actually have the best console this gen. That adds up to a sales juggernaut.
Don't forget it was $100 bucks cheaper without a shitty camera accessory being rammed down your throat.

"No," Spencer says, "I fully expect that you’ll see another console from us […] Our best customers are Xbox console customers, and I want to keep those people engaged both on the Xbox One and anything we might do in the future. I’m 100 percent committed to that."

http://www.theverge.com/2015/12/10/...16-interview-crackdown-3-quantum-break-recore

Look real closely at that. "Fully expect that you'll see another console" but he doesn't qualify as a next gen console. What if the next box is a high performance Xbox One like the potential high performance PS4 that was being talked about? And "I want to keep (Xbox console customers) engaged both on the Xbox One and anything we might do in the future" does not state specifically that there will be a next generation Xbox. What if instead there is a line of PCs with an Xbox GUI similar to the Steam box but done right?

Lot of things in that statement that leaves a lot of room for interpretation and flexibility.

Where was the "rabid loyalty" to the PS brand when the PS3 launched at $599?

Stuff like this is a bit ridiculous.

Maybe they were working more hours still?

Rockstar isn't that stupid like SE.. So fat chance.

I think they still can take a month due to some promotions or games but not with a big gap like 100>.
The only way they took October was with their biggest all time franchise (granted in decline), and a price drop on PS4 that affected attractive bundles that would only release in Nov, hence probably delaying sales.

Never say never, but the only way I'd see another month lost at this point is a significant price drop on XB1 that would not be matched.

Hi guys. Give me a second to make a post, I'm at work.

Do you take historical requests as well? As in 1990s data for various smaller games? Stuff like Overblood, Disruptor, Hybrid Heaven, Burning Rangers, that sort of thing (If not no worries, but I figured it was worth a shot)

I also wanted to thank you for improving the quality of discussion here with some hard numbers. I wasn't on NeoGaf then but ArsTechnica had a thriving forum back when full numbers were released and I loved the in depth analysis possible with such data. This isn't that, but every little bit helps 😃.

This maybe isn't the case in the USA but you could argue there is a really strong PS loyalty in mainland Europe. PS3, even at launch, always sold more than the 360 there. It's noticible in the general population too, if you buy a game console you buy a Playstation, it's 'the popular' thing to do.

Reality is, if your a good developer, you'll never find it that hard to get a job. Even if it's just a basic one to tie you over until you find something special. Yeah it'll cause stress and worry, but the work climate isn't that bad. If you want to focus in games, then yeah, I can understand, but obviously skillsets between game dev and normal software dev are very transferable and you shouldn't restrict yourself in a tight spot.

As someone who has seen this very struggle play out with their friends within this industry, I have to jump in & chide you on just how unbelievably rude & incorrect you are. I've seen some incredibly talented individuals go YEARS before being picked up again; ppl with very healthy resumes. Many of whom worked on games that reviewed really well but didn't sell all that great, so I guess they should feel good, amirite?

The thing you're not taking into account, which both doesn't surprise me and scares me, considering you claim to be a project lead in software development, and are probably involved in the hiring process, is that the skills it takes to do well in job interviews is not the same skills required to do that job. These are two completely different skill-sets, and almost everyone in any industry or career path can attest to the results of that differential. If you have yet to see someone who has zero skills to actually do the job they are in a position for, but has the job regardless, its probably a healthy combination of people they know + excellent interviewing skills.

This is the thinking that got MS in trouble, its not all about the big multi-million dollar franchises. Here's a few reasons

1) Ps4 marketing and goodwill from launch was superior to competitors. February event, E3 reveal of what the console looked like, how to trade used games etc...strong start

2) most of the mistakes made with the PS3 launch (high price, a year after the competition) were corrected

3) Better brand in other territories allow more developers working on your system, which results in more games on the platform

4) word-of-mouth, people like to play where there friends play. Ps4/X1 share a lot of the same library. For many gamers they are just going to pick one.

5) Ps4 ain't even in Max form yet ;-)

Wow. That is shockingly low.

I mean, it wasn't marketed a great deal until it was too late. Couple that with the 500 lb gorillas in the room, and you see why the game sold so low.

I am purposely ignoring the fact that the majority of the series' fans are on the console it wasn't released for.

By God, finally caught up in this thread.
My thoughts, PS4 and XB1 both did fucking impressive numbers.

But boy did I lowball PS4 in my prediction, it's amazing it reached 1.5m.

I really need Mulcair to save me now with COD bundles numbers (to evaluate how effective marketing partnership was) and Uncharted collection bundle numbers (to see potential growth in fanbase for uc4)

Quality is very important but no developer out there, especially one as big as CD wants a couple hundred thousand playing their game. I'm not sure some hollow PR elevates team spirits so hopefully Spence and co personally thanked them.

That being said, all those involved in the exclusivity/marketing etc are damn idiots.
I'm not even a bit shocked it's in 20-30 on NPD, what else could've happened?

More. Last year PS4 did 3-4million WW.
With the price cut effect we could be looking at up to 5-6 million.

Sure, I'll help you out!

Hello everybody! NPD_George aka. the nefarious NDP_Mulcair back once again!

I've only now just read through this burgeoning NeoGAF thread.

Since I made that comment it appears that some people have replied to me and said that ZhugeEx is actually a cool guy.

Sorry ZhugeEx! I misinterpreted what people were saying! I thought people were saying you were a phony, but apparently I was mistaken. I'm very ignorant of who's who around here, and who to avoid as phony, so please forgive me as I go through this learning process.

I'm currently at work on a lunch break so I can't type anything else until a bit later, but I'd like to have the opportunity to talk about Call of Duty: Black Ops III.

It performed much better than I expected! With increasing digital share I certainly didn't think that Call of Duty would be UP year-over-year, but Activision Blizzard continues to surprise me.

To be fair, Activision Blizzard (the publisher) did have -3% lower retail sales from November 2014, but I digress!

Including bundle units, the flagship 'Call of Duty: Black Ops 3' skyrocketed ahead its next-largest competitor with a whopping 4.89 million units including bundles, or 4.607 million units when you just look at the software side of things.

This is according to data from The NPD Group's U.S. Games Industry (New Physical Sales Channel) report that it released yesterday.

In November 2014 'Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare' sold only 4.66 million units including bundle sales or 4.269 million units of software, so the fact that there is positive growth for the Call of Duty franchise in packaged retail despite a higher digital share is fantastic news for Activision Blizzard shareholders and the retail maker in general.

And, it skyrocketed above the 2nd most successful software in the 'Top 10' list, Fallout 4.

Let's talk about Fallout 4 in comparison.

Bethesda Softworks's 'Fallout 4' sold 2.54 million unit sales including bundle sales, which sold below than November 2011's last marquee Bethesda release 'The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim' which managed 2.833 million in November 2011 when you combine the normal and COLLECTOR'S ED SKU.

Although please keep in mind that the digital share for Bethesda titles is likely might higher than in November 2011, so when factoring digital offset, Fallout 4 probably debuted above its predecessor.
