I don't want Paper Mario, I want Paper Bowser, dangit.

...Although a new console Paper Mario would be awesome. Hope it's true.

I'm gonna hope for TTYD style but Sticker Star did really well didn't it? I hope they at least think the U audience would probably be better suited for a more traditional one.

I do think it'd make sense the split handheld and console entries that way

Dunno if it did "really well" at ~2.2-2.3m

It did more than PM64 and TTYD, but those were on smaller install bases.
It did do more than M&L Dream Team though, and the games were released close to each other.

Did a couple million less than Super Paper Mario or BiS though.

I'll be pretty excited for a new Paper Mario just to see what direction the game takes. Hopefully IS puts back in some major rpg elements and isn't afraid to have too much story or dialogue.

Not only that, but apparently Sticker Star had a lot of unsold copies and is on the cheap now.

Game consoles do typically receive games at least until they're replaced, you know.

To be fair, some late-gen games planned for all consoles before the Wii U were moved up (N64 got Smash Bros., GC got Eternal Darkness, Wii got Super Paper Mario, Wii U got Pikmin 3)

Also, props to Emily and probably Tamaki and ShockingAlberto for making the right call and not subjecting us to two more days of speculation. Before I was publicly bemoaning the announcement of an announcement, so I would be remiss if I didn't turn around and give credit where credit is due.

Not for NX, that's for sure!

It would be great in the long term. You are just looking at launch day and nothing else. "ZOMG a Zelda game at launch!" meanwhile they did that for wii and what happened?

All it really did was give Nintendo an excuse to not have an actual wii Zelda until 5 years later because we "already had a zelda" and a lot of people claim the GC version is superior. It actually didn't help the Wii at all.

If they followup Sticker Star with Sticker Star 2, I'm done with this series.

I think many Nintendo gamers will be done with Nintendo with that announcement honestly.

Zelda U, TP HD, and other titles might make some happy, but Nintendo has been so tone-deaf for so long, that an announcement like Sticker Star 2 might get worse reaction then Federation Force got when it was announced.

Nintendo isn't stupid.....hopefully, so I don't think we are getting a game called Sticker Star 2.

The new Paper Mario I picture more or less being a hybrid of the TTYD formula but with some elements from Sticker Star (using stickers, playing with Paper mechanics, ect).

Can we settle for Paper Wario?

But then what would the Koopalings do? :p

Paper Wario would be fun too. Oooh, they could add Warioware-esque mini game elements to it. Just in general, I'd love to see them get a little more creative with the "Paper" franchise. There's more they could do than just Mario.

(And, no, having two Mario's doesn't count.)

Ah ;). Good one man :).

To be serious, if this Paper Mario is a good game, Nintendo has a title that neatly wraps up the Wii U line up this year:
-Twilight Princess HD
-Pokken
-Star Fox Zero
-Mario & Sonic
-Pikmin 4 (Cross-Gen)
-Paper Mario
-#FE
-Legend of Zelda Wii U (Cross-Gen)

The following games would be a killer year for the Wii U and should make most people happy.

I'm totally Ok with that line up.. add some stellar eshop releases in between and seems a very competent line up.

Game consoles do typically receive games at least until they're replaced, you know.

Wii U is a failure and NX will need every bit of first-party support it can possibly get to even have a chance of success in the current market. Seems like a pretty clear case of misplaced priorities, even if it makes current Wii U owners happy.

But that's about all I have to say about that. Nintendo gonna Nintendo.

But it did give the Wii additional hype at launch, which translated to sales.

Man, them even making another Paper Mario puts worry into me. They just need to make another RPG with no weird systems. And I liked Super Paper Mario more than most people.

Sticker Star still isn't good.

Holy crap I'm excited! Did not expect it to be Paper Mario related.

Even if it's not a straight RPG like the first two, I still all-around enjoyed SPM and thought they did some great things in SS. I'm interested to see what they do this time. More Paper Mario is always a good thing to me.

Paper Wario would be nice because it would have a lot of variant settings that you don't really see in Mario games, even Paper Mario. Also, don't forget Land you monster! Imagine the shit you could have with Wario's status effect power-ups. He could get flattened, filled with helium, set on fire, etc.

Err... the Wii did really well.

Twilight Princess didn't do that great for it though. It was Wii Sports, Wii Fit, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, and Mario Kart 8.

So it looks like the hype train left the station at max speed. What's the validity to the rumors posted on Twitter? Who's Emily Rogers?

What I really want

An actual pokemon tournament/stadium game. It'd be novel but I'd appreciate it.

A full blown animal crossing sequel.

These are things I feel can still happen but with NX so around the corner its probably another spinoff so I'll just hope it isn't a paper mario spinoff since those always go so well.

WELL FUCK ME.

pls, pls dear lord let it be a goddamn rpg with a good story

Indeed. Thought it was a terrible move trying to tease us about an announcement, which never ends well for anyone and comes off as merely self-serving. They realized it at an early stage, though, so props for that.

Zelda U can be the swansong for wii u and the start of better days for NX, no need to change that much a Zelda game is a Zelda game and U will be the next main one.
I dont get it, some people are bashing Nintendo for not throwing their current system so soon, they need to assure fans to secure a goid transition specially if handheld NX ends up coming first.

Ah, those numbers do sound good to me but I do know the game got really cheap over here too so it might not have been as well as I was told. That's good. I actually did enjoy Sticker Star a lot but I don't want it to become the future of the series, especially not on home consoles.

Either way I really do think a traditional Paper Mario RPG would make more sense on a system like the Wii U. Small but dedicated fan base, I imagine a TTYD style game would do better on that. Fingers crossed.

Yeah. Pretty decent lineup for Wii U's final year tbh. I though it was going to be worst. Just hoping that the timelapses between each of those games are not that long (3 to 4 months like last year when we got Splatoon and then nothing for 4 months until september when Mario Maker came out...)

another thing, wow PiT did poorly comparitively. 1.73m on the DS? I mean, wow.
For what it's worth, PiT was winter 2005, so it wasn't that long after the DS actually really started to take off.

Considering PiT is also not very good and didn't have the best word of mouth, its sales were fairly reasonable.

If this is like Super Paper Mario or Sticker Star, screw it.

If this is like Paper Mario 64 and Thousand Year Door, FUCKING MEGATON.

Seriously, those first two Paper Mario games were special. I'm getting emotional just thinking about it.

After not playing the series since GC which I just thought was okay I tried Sticker Star and now I just can't be excited for anything related to the series anymore.

I just don't like the atheistic of Paper Mario (or the Mario and Luigi games for that matter) as much as I would just love a Mario RPG 2 (its never going to happen) I really just wish they would try something a bit different.

Honestly I just think that with Paper Mario and the Mario and Luigi games that Nintendo doesn't take them very seriously, they have always felt like a series they make on the back burner like some of the sports games then actually being a big Nintendo property and while Mario RPG was made by SE it really felt like a lot of time and effort went into it and I just never get the feeling from the other Mario RPG-like series, maybe thats just me.

I'd love to be surprised though Nintendo.

NX doesn't need games that bad. Nintendo can certainly afford to release a handful of Wii U games this year, especially since they've all probably been in development for a while.

I want to be excited but after the disappointments of the last few it's really hard to be. It's good news they are making one, I guess if they keep trying they'll get it right again eventually

Just.. Ugh. Please...Be good

Yeah, it probably has better WOM than sticker star and that released winter 2012. I just expected at least 2m for PiT so I was surprised.

much better. SPM had all the charm of the first two.

plus the gameplay wasn't bad, they just took out the turn-based battles. and the 3-d landscapes were a little barren. but it wasn't bad. I actually really liked the flipping game mechanic now that I think about it.
