Uldritch, Saint of the Deep

Farron's Undead Legion, The Abyss Watchers

Reclusive lord of the profaned capital, Hyuong The Giant

Three? Only three? That can't be right.

Also Uldritch is definitely related to those mass of black thing bursting out of the Undead.

Player's the 4th Lord?

there are 3 lord souls and a dark soul. So 3 lords it's ok.
(but i'm not convinced that these guys are the possessors of the lord souls)

I think you're right about the giant, caused he's probably got golem power like Dark Souls II.

Is that crown at the end the Dark Soul?

If the Abyss Watchers are agents of the Abyss - or protectors from its effects - they'd likely have a complex relationship with the owner of the Dark Soul. That could be great.

I never understood how people disliked the use of the cycle theme in DS2 yet "time is convoluted" and alternate dimensions from DS1 were never criticized.

Because the only "real" grip people had with DSII beyond the slightly inferior level design was that Myazaki wasnt involved with it. Most people were already set to hate it before the game was out.

Ok there is something weird here. I mean in the trailer. Do you guys think that the knight at the end (the same on the boxart) is our character? Because that would be really strange, i mean i don't think it's usual for them to give your character a particular appearence in the cinematic intro. I mean, on the boxart it's ok, no doubt, but in the intro? No..there is something missing here.

The "default" protagonist has always had a particular appearance for each game, even if it did not show up in the intro cinematic.

Dark Souls II - Faraam Knight

Demon's Souls - Fluted...Knight (this one actually is the intro guy!)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnEzkbdTa0I

Bloodborne - Hunter w/Cleaver (also the cinematic intro guy, but iirc the cinematic intro only loaded as an extra from the start screen and not ahead of each game - it's more a cinematic themesetter than an intro)

And Dark Souls III is the Red Knight aka Unkindled

The player will be tested if he is able to be one of those ala Demon Souls with the giant guy who pass the torch to the player is he get the good ending.

I never understood how people disliked the use of the cycle theme in DS2 yet "time is convoluted" and alternate dimensions from DS1 were never criticized.

Because those two are different things. the time convouted was some sort of MMO mechanics which you can benefits with buffs from another player world, consistent NPC summon and coop (then it got really messed up in Dark Souls 2). And the point of the cicles was just an excuse to keep the story going aimlessly giving the devs time to make new games and think about how to end the game since the story would have ended in DkS1 and DsK2 is pointless because of that and Dark Soul 3 will be pointless if the game gets the same opening ending or ends like Mass Effect 3 ending.

Good god, that looks good. I skipped 2 though, anyone think it's worth it to go back and play?

Worth it and it will give you some insight for Dark Souls 3

Very much so. Dont listen to the vocal minority. Alot of people who think its worde then 1 still ackowledge its a great game in its own right. Try to get Scholar of The first Sin.

Trust me, I put in 70 hours in the first week I bought it, so I'm definitely qualified to say that it's like... if you took the quality gap between Dark Souls 1 and Custer's Revenge, it's as far below Custer's Revenge as CR is below DS1.

it's gud

I just don't like the story in these games guys. I like acting and drama and stuff, not reams of text and corny voice overs.

But I'm sure it's very good if you like that kind of thing.

It's the best game in the series and the only one I've actually finished. Don't listen to the "no Miyazaki make it bad game" brigade, it's the most fun, varied and versatile one.

Still stuck on The Old Chaos (final area of the final DLC) but I'll give it another try at some point.

I played over 500 hours of DkS1 and over 400 hours of DkS2. I loved both. Yes, 1 is the better game, but I feel you are far, far exaggerating how "bad" 2 is. It's still not only an amazing game, but a great Souls game.

I also enjoy the PvP in 2 more than any of the Soulsborne games. Sue me.

For the apocalypse edition, I. Am literally just pre-order it from anywhere, right? I sort of saw it and impulse pre ordered from best buy with gcu. Want to make sure I get that :D

I'm afraid that this Bosses end up being copycats from previous games ones for the people that hasn't tried any Souls game. We have:

Aldrich Saint of the Deep = Phalanx
Farron's Undead Legion = Shadow of Yharnam
Yhorm the Giant = Tower Knight

Just saying...

THANK YOU. Good to know someone else is seeing what im seeing. Kudos to not being blind.

Of course this is CG. For all we know he'll end up having a butthole face in the actual game...

Actually you guys are onto something - the giant actually has no head. You can see through his chainmail links and see the sky where his neck should be, and when he turns his head, you can actually see through where his head should be too. If he has a head it's situated way to the back, where it could plausibly just be the helmet blocking out light.

Nice detective work, boys.

Nah, I am.

Dark Souls 2 isn't as good as Dark Souls 1, but it's still better than almost anything out there.

Don't bother, It's a mess. Will only sour you. Imagine Dark Souls, made by someone who doesn't know what makes Dark Souls Dark Souls; enter Dark Souls 2.

It's just the same mechanics without the depth. Quite poorly designed by comparison.

Nope. NA. Damn, that's what I get for rushing after seeing the video, complete forgot about it being a European video. Is it only the soundtrack then as the pre order bonus for NA?

Yah, and "exclusive O-sleeve packaging". Quite the "fuck you" we get.

So.... are we playing the bad guy in this story?
Cause it sounds a bit like we are killing the only hope the world has.

If the previous games are any indication, letting the flame extinguish could be good for mankind.

Because one doesn't directly contradict the entire theme of the series.

How does that contradict the "entire series" (which at that point was only DS1 and 2)?

I really liked the dreamlike, melancholy atmosphere of Dark Souls 2. It had a lot of character. Love the Herald. Dark Souls 1 is the better game, yes. But Dark Souls 2's only lore sin imo was that it was TOO vague. But again, worked for the dreamlike, ethereal feeling of the whole thing.

Also how does it make you feel then that Dark Souls 3 is very much taking what Dark Souls 2 did and running with it? We've got the giants, the intro stating outright the lands of the lords are "transitory", which fits with Dark Souls 2 perfectly, the fact that there were many, many lords of cinder who lit the flame (or didn't, because it didn't matter)...

Damn it... It still looks cool, Just not as awesome as the apocalypse edition. Oh well, I was going to get it eventually anyway since I loved Bloodborne, but that's super disaappointing. Do we know if it's a legit soundtrack or just like a 5 songs soundtrack?

Does anyone know if you can summon friends in coop like in Bloodborne - with a password system? I loved being able to play it with my brother, and it finally got him into the series.

Come join me!

I bought bloodborne on the US SEN Store just to play it 3 days before the European release which I had reserved.
So even if I reserved the Collector's Edition on PS4 and will buy a regular version on PC too, if it means I can play almost 3 weeks before, I will gladly preorder it on the JPN SEN Store.

I'll buy Star Ocean 5 on disc then because even if I also want to play it, I'd be too busy spending my free time on DS3 <3

I just finished setting up my JP PSN account. I just don't want to spoil the first playthrough by not understanding much. All the area titles are in Japanese, I can't tell by the videos if the voice acting is in Japanese. The first playthrough of Souls games are the most important ones.

Tedious because I have no reason to care about anything that's going on, there is no human connection, no relatable conflict.

You do have a point, at no time during any souls games or bloodborne did I feel motivated to do something for any real reason other than because I enjoy the gameplay, never for any story or character reasons.

Because one doesn't directly contradict the entire theme of the series.

Posts like this make me worry about people holding on way too tight to the lore of one particular game within a series that riffs on the same motifs.

Like Bloodborne, this game looks like its harkening back to Demon's Souls at least as much as Dark Souls 1. And that's a game with a very clear and self-contained lore of its own.

Ultimately all these games riff on the same core concepts, which to my mind is well and truly enough to bind themselves as a series without tying themselves into knots by trying to create an over-arching saga where none was ever planned.

No. There's a thread every week almost where people explain at length their individual criticisms of DS2, "boo-hoo I want my Miyazaki" doesn't even cover 1% of it.

People that haven't played Dark Souls 2 should definitely play it. Even though it completely misses the point of a Souls game, it is still better than the vast majority of games out there. And it also allows you to appreciate the other Souls games even more.

What is a hardcore souls fan like where, apart from Yoshi lol

Not sure how you would define "hardcore" but I literally put over 200 hours into each of the Souls/Bourne games and buy the collectors edition if possible, use the soundtrack for when I go to gym... etc

DS2 while having the best PvP is the worse of the bunch for me.

How so? Genuinely curious as to why you'd think that?

And to keep it on-topic, what does DS3 need to do to "get the point" of a souls game.

It's possible that that part of the trailer is not actually from the opening cinematic. After the Fire Maiden is shown, there's a fade to black. It may be that the intro continues from there but that Namco Bandai spliced in some other footage so that it would end on the mascot knight.
