Because technically it is 900p, in the same way that when you only do horizontal scaling but have 1080 lines, it's still 1080p even though it isn't 1 pixel to 1 pixel.
900p means 900 horizontal lines. The Order is 1920 x 900. That's simultaneously 1 pixel to 1 pixel on your display and 900p.
But to just call it 900p I've always felt was misleading, while correct on a technicality.

If you buy a 1080p 21:9 monitor, it's horizontal resolution is 2560. The P stands for progressive and the number is the number of lines. So technically the P doesn't define the horizontal resolution *at all*.

I think the real solution is just to write out the actual resolution. Especially now that we have people using 1080p and 4K back and forth, when one defines the vertical resolution and one the horizontal. Again, a 21:9 4K monitor will have less pixels than a 16:9 4K monitor, but a 21:9 1080p monitor has MORE pixels than a 16:9 1080p monitor.

Well the gameplay videos looked good and no one noticed them not being 1080p. That being said its a shame they basically lied when they told us it's going to be 1080p

According to the second DF video the anti aliasing used seems to deal with most of the negative aspects of a lower resolution. People seem to be ignoring that becuase resolution is easier to understand.

I don't agree with The Order being 1080p despite all the spin to say it is.
Game renders at 1920x800, black bars are not being rendered as black bars, they just aren't rendering anything to save GPU cycles. it would be insane to render black bars ON PURPOSE. Nobody would do that.
The comparison with movies also doesn't stick with me. A GPU is rendering the image frame by frame using resources, a Blu Ray player is just streaming data. It doesn't need to conserve cycles for effects etc.
This game looks to be doing some crazy stuff. It may not be the GPU that is throttling the frame rate.
