HA HA this is hilarious. Trashing on Call of Duty, "M$", I fucking love them.

Interested in the game, BF3 & 4 remains some of my favourite multiplayer games but a WW1 setting seems kind of in poor taste. It wouldn't necessarily work as a FPS unless you jazz it up, but then you're glorifying one of the worst wars ever seen. Not saying you can't have games in that setting but give it the credence it deserves (Valiant Hearts does fantastically well in this regard). I only hope EA/DICE does do that rather than give it the AAA big budget guns and explosions treatment seen in past single player Battlefield campaigns.

What? Poor taste? It wouldn't work as an FPS? Good god these posts... Seriously watch the history channel. It's been documented all over this thread but there's a ton to this war, much more than sitting in a trench. Also, we've got games where you are mowing down people in a Russian airport, fake wars with China, and middle Eastern countries, but we are drawing a line at WWI? Even though a ton of Americans lost their lives, the odd circumstances in the war means we should just bury it?

Because under this aspect every other war covered in a video game was in good taste.

Exactly.

It's an alternate reality WW1, so historical accuracy doesn't really matter too much.

There's no evidence it's alt history. A leaked marketing photo even shows no evidence of it.

So far i know in the netherlands nothing was learned about WW1 either..we only learned from WW2. I needed to learn about WW1 when i saw a book in the library years ago. And believe me people are not going to like this game because it is WW1 and it isn't WW2.

I like this because it's WWI. I've wanted a well made WWI game for a long time, and Red Orchestra doesn't count.

Historically accurate WW1 sounded like the dullest thing ever to me.
Would have watched the trailer just for dem frostbite graphics.

Steampunk WW1 though ? I am intrigued.

Fake edit: But..uhm...upon closer inspection i am not sure i can determine that from that cover ?

i was hoping there was nothing in these WW1 rumours but this confirms it. I'll just stick to Battlefield 4 thanks. Maybe when the Premium edition of this new game is dirt cheap for sale on Origin I'll pick it up.

Anyone discussed the race of the fellow on the pic? Gotta be alternate timeline right? In WWI most african-american troops were put on labor battalions.

(can't find my glasses, eyesight is shit, so I'm sorry if I'm mistaken about his race)

Dude is going to be white as fuck. We all know this, don't set yourself up for disappointment.

We all I don't have the energy to go through like 3 threads on "historical accuracy" in videogames, or "pandering" and "we need a good reason why the character isn't white" posts

The dudebro pose, the fact he has four weapons on him, the overused embers, the "badass" cloak.

It doesn't look like WW1 at all, it looks more like something you would find in Battlefield 4.

Hopefully it's just the shitty box art and not representative of the actual game.

I mean...in BF1942 your dude was carrying like, 3 guns and a bazooka and grenades...none of these games are realistic.

I don't think it'll be straight WWI. John Harker mentioned lots of prototype weaponry.

Lmao. WWI is in poor taste, but something like WWII or Vietnam isn't?

I don't know enough about ww1, but it would be nice to not play as a US soldier.
But then again its battlefield haven't played any of the campaigns its pretty much a
waste of time for DICE if you ask me.

Actually during WWI both sides were already experimenting with the first concepts of helicopters and monocopters. Wouldn't be surprised if DICE adds them to give more variety to the gameplay. Would be interesting.

That was WWII

The first fully functional Helicopter and any production came well after WWI.

(I suppose DICE could do what they want though)

You'd think people would use this as motivation to learn more about the war, what a mess it was, how it laid the groundwork for WWII, how tech and strategy evolved incredibly rapidly from 1914 to 1918, what it did to the various countries/empires involved, etc. This is fascinating and important stuff that people dismiss as "Dudes in trenches for years."

The leak for the WW1 setting mentioned it was alternate history, so while not confirmed by any means it is more likely.

I want to enjoy playing the game, not work. How is that fun? How is waiting to use options in a multiplayer game, enjoyable? Other players will have access to stuff, and will use it to avoid death and divert it towards you. "No you can't use this thing until you've played for X more hours." I find it purely annoying.

I mean I think you're taking the "work" part a bit too literally. I personally enjoy progression because it gives a sense of completion, having everything available from the get go usually leads to me getting bored more quickly. I know this opinion isn't shared by everyone but that's okay.

I mean, since they've been in almost every BF game ever I wouldn't count on it.

Personally I like having them as long as they're balanced well, gives me something to work towards.

I hope that BF5's progression system will at least be improved in two significant ways which I think would solve most of the issues I've had with BF3 and BF4; a general XP pool and the ability for players to choose which items to unlock.
