Serkan Toto rumor: Resident Evil 7 reveal at E3, will go back to horror roots

They'll never go back to fixed cameras and tank controls, that's for sure. They'll try to make the game slower and more atmospheric and come up with some crappy half-assed attempt at horror like RE Revelations.

Or maybe this is just good old Capcom bullshit and the next game will be over the top action, hopefully.
I really hope you're wrong, as that's what I want the most.

After 6 I have zero good expectations for this franchise going forward. Definitely a wait and play before purchasing approach, with whatever comes next.

Series needs a full reboot in an alternate scenario, new characters with their own stories, no umbrella, just survival horror.

Please don't be a reboot and please keep 6's combat system.

the less it's like RE6, the better

Cheese has been a vital part of the series since the very first game!

the thing is, there wasn't really much cheese overall beyond dialogue. you was playing most of the time. cutscenes were fairly scarce and so it didn't matter too much.

now RE is bloated with story and dialogue so cheese is rubbed in your face every 5 minutes.

As I said in one of the previous threads, make it like Revelations 2, but with higher production values. That game was pretty much the best RE after REmake (yes, I liked it better than RE4, come at me bros).

Not to piss on anyone's parade but I'd keep my expectations in check.

It's always the "going back to horror roots" spiel for every major RE title.

RE4 was the better shooter, but Rev2 really was the better RE game.

You'll get REmake 2. Now let the other kids have their toys too.

That's suggesting that Capcom is keeping tank and camera angles with REmake 2.

Have a good feeling they're not. Maybe there will be an option to have the game like that similar to the easter egg in RE5: LiN (except for the entire game, not just one area). But anyone expecting that game to be released in 2016+ with pre-rendered backgrounds and tank controls only are probably setting themselves up for disappointment.

How? I'm genuinely curious why people think Rev2 is such an amazing RE game. It's actually pretty low on my list of best entires in the series, Rev1 is better and even more of an RE game than Rev2.

I really want this to be true, and I say that as someone who's enjoyed most of the modern RE's a great deal. The series was defined by Survival Horror, and I think that's what it should be going forward. It doesn't have to be fixed camera angles and tank controls (although I would LOVE that), but it should tense, atmospheric, and frightening, with a heavy focus on resource management, and very limited ammo. Also, no cover shooting, or zombies with machine guns, please.

Rev2 had one good episode, with great atmosphere and some surprisingly good puzzles, and one damn good final boss. Apart from that, people give it too much credit indeed, and i also think it wasn't a great RE.
The fact alone that they gave you weaponless coop partners to act as scanners, was plain boring.

As for REmake 2, i think they will keep it classic, but people must realize already that mainline entries will keep being action horror.

I thought Rev1 had better gun punch and ragdoll than Rev2 but Rev2 had variety in locations. Having a dedicated dodge button also helps Rev2 better imo.

Well, that's certainly what I'm expecting. I really don't understand what people have against the older style of play. It's not outdated or obsolete. It's brilliant. Also, REmake HD and RE Zero HD's success show that there's a very strong demand for the classic style of gameplay. I absolutely believe REmake 2 will play like RE2. Maybe there's an option for alt controls like REmake and Zero, but otherwise it'll be classic RE through and through.

The thing want from RE7 is a brand new main character. Seriously, as much as I like Leon, they're fucking milk him to death already. Please no more Leon, he should be a cameo for RE from now on

Well we got jake last game. I don't see them adding a new main character for 7. I'm sure we'll get a new co op partner as always. I do agree that we need a break from Chris and Leon. Jill needs her time to shine, hasn't been a main in a numbered since 3.

Yeah, I also want new characters for RE7, especially if it's horror focused. Leon and Chris have been milked to death, and I like Claire, but she just had a game, and tbh, I kinda hated her redesign. I might be okay with Jill, since she hasn't been seen post RE5, but yeah, a new protagonist would be great. The character you're playing has to be somewhat vulnerable and unfamiliar with how to survive a zombie outbreak for horror to work. I mean, it was pretty hard to be scared in RE6 when you're playing as someone who's survived a million outbreaks and can dropkick zombies effortlessly.

The majority of Rev1 taking place on the boat actually made it a better RE for me, the backtracking and claustrophobia of it all was really well done. I found that game quite nerve wracking when you were Jill, with the other characters kinda being a stress reliever before throwing you back into hell again when going back to Jill.

If someone from PT is working on it, I wonder how much we're going to notice that. Some of that disturbing stuff in a Resi game could be awesome.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
Don't they also have some online RE game in the works? Like a sequel to operation raccoon city? Or did that get canceled?

Honestly I am expecting a really safe sequel that uses RE4/RE5 mechanics (except probably made for and balanced around moving and shooting). I would be legitimately surprised if anything from RE6 appears in RE7 at all (including Jake).

the negative impressions for RE6 were so bad, I played 20 minutes and gave up. Can't wait for this. Please be true

And please no more co-op focus which ruined the games.

I really think it's time for them to make a clean cut and start something new. I welcome that.

Nowadays everything gets rebooted so I wouldn't be surprised if they did this with RE as well.

I've been hearing things like "RE will go back to it's horror roots" for years now and never happen, so I truly doubt it they will do it now considering that RE6 sold enough to get a remaster. IMO we will get something like RE6, Co-op first, action second, and with very little horror within it.

Yeah, ive been let down too many times. It wouldnt kill them to make the games a bit scary though.

More importantly are we going to see what the 2 remake looks like? I hope 7 goes back to it's roots but at the same time I don't quite know how that would work in today's market. Zombies aren't really scary, and if they want to go the 4 route (which I actually consider pretty comedic) then they really have to build an original idea from the ground up. I don't see modern capcom able to do it honestly.

RE2Make just recently started production, I think, so I really don't expect to see anything about it until next year. Unless it's a much smaller product than what most are hoping for and expecting.

Exactly. I feel like most of the people posting here, and hsting 6, have never played it.

The game was a disaster to me:
-leon's campaign was great until tall oaks was destroyed.
-chris' campaign was a piece of shit except for the fight against the snake and maybe the last boss.
-jake's campaign was even worse, almost insulting, the only cool thing was to fight nemesis 2.0(Usta-something)
-Ada's campaign was cool until the submarine part then it becomes shit too.

I agree that the gunplay is nice and it's fun to play in coop but it still needs a lot of work,QTEs/melee system makes the game a joke(i beat the game on Pro with no upgrades/skills) and the only thing i had to do was quickshot+melee almost every enemy in the game or target the enemy and send my partner to kill it.
Why did i waste my time if this game is a disaster? It's a RE game and i always give them more than one chance,no matter how shitty it is.
What pisses me off is the story:
-why wesker has a son? they didn't even bother to explain it in jake's campaign.
-sherry's return was overshadowed by jake.
-Ada finally had a main role in the story and not just some side-story from a minigame but we didn't learn anything new about her, same old cockteasing with leon.
-We could say that chris almost had some kind of resolution and was ready to pass the torch but no,let's kill the new character and leave everything just like it was before the game started.

It's not like i despise the action route they took with the franchise, actually 6 is the only main RE game that i didn't enjoy(i hate like 80% of the game and the rest was kinda fun)
End of rant.
