First GTX 1070 benchmarks

Incredible results! The resale value of my Titan Xs just went to shit.

I'm happy and sad at the same time.

Can't wait to see what the 1080ti could do

I currently have that custom ASUS GTX670 that's as fast as a 680. If the 1070 ends up being ~$600 in Canada then I think I'll be upgrading.

Are any of the Polaris cards expected to be around the 1070's performance? I read that they're focusing more on the lower-mid end of the spectrum.

SLI is still a thing which exists, though NV just dropped official support for 3 and 4-way SLI.

SLI still isn't a good idea outside of very specific use cases.

From my time spend over on the HardOCP forums, I've been told that a single more powerful card is almost always better than using SLI.

There is also apparently some wonkiness in terms of performance in the occasional SLI setup.

I never tried an SLI configuration myself but I was always curious to see what it would be like, but if I had the choice, I'd still opt for simply getting single more powerful card rather than two lesser priced cards for a dual gpu setup.

Still I think upgrading from my HD7950 to a GTX 1070 will be all the worthwhile. I've had this card since 2012, so I got a good four years out of it, managed to push it to it's limits with Witcher 3 at 30fps on Ultra.

It's time for better things. Now I wait for MSI, EVGA or Gigabyte to come out with the aftermarket variants.

So what do we reckon the UK price will be ? I'm currently rocking a 560ti and am desperate to upgrade

From what I could find onlne...

I quote Arstechnica

The GTX 1070's UK price has also been announced, with it launching with an MSRP of £399 for the Founders Edition and potentially cheaper pricing through other UK manufacturers.

SLI isn't a smart idea, it's efficiency relies on the specific game's developer and Nvidia driver support, in lots of games your 2nd expensive card is practically dead weight.

FINALLY.

and it's outperforming the 980ti (for the most part). That's good to see. I was worried when people in the other thread were speculating that it wouldn't.

Will definitely be picking up a 1070 in the next few months.

I sold my 980 ti and plopped an old 560 ti in my rig whenI realized I was almost exclusively console gaming so this will be quite the mega upgrade. CPU is Haswell i5.

Guru3D posted a video of them overclocking the GTX 1070.

http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/cet-tweaking-the-second-order-of-10-29-05-16-23-59.html

The graphics score it gets in Firestrike with the Core at 2.05GHz and the Memory at 8998MHz is 18951, this can been seen briefly at the end of the video if you pause it.

It's also worth noting that there appears to be some slight throttling taking place during the Firestrike benchmark, this could be slightly messing with the final score.

You mean the 1070?

*Edit* yeah he means 1070

In the next few months I'm going to be upgrading from a 2GB 670 and a 1920x1200 TN monitor to a 1070 and one of those swanky new 27" 2560x1440 144Hz G-Sync IPS monitors. Dis gon be guuuuuud.

Looking for opinions. Is the 1070 overkill for 1080p/60fps gaming?

Mostly yes, but you will be able to use its power later for future/unoptimized games. When Neo comes out, some multiplatform games will start getting better looking modes that were not present up to now.

Solid results, a clean break from the last generation of cards pretty much. 1070 is likely to take the 970's place as the go-to GPU recommendation.

I wonder how well a single 1070 could replace 970 SLI. The future of SLI doesn't look very good, most recent games either lacked SLI at launch or had poor scaling, I don't think any DX12 games have SLI support and UWP games never will, and I don't think Unreal 4 engine will be getting SLI support outside of VR.

I won't be interested in launch 1070s though, since their overclocking potential is so gimped and I water cool. I wonder if the FTW EVGA edition will be hampered by Nvidia's built in overclocking limitations to ensure the card doesn't come close to a 1080?

Once things settle down with the founders crap and retailer gouging/limited stock, we should see 1070 around the £350 mark and lower.

Some have already said they'll be launching very close to the rrp for the 1080

A $380 1070 to import yourself costs £337 in total, that's with shipping and UK tax at 20%.

I'd like to see my EVGA 980Ti Classified vs 1070.

I already know it's not worth an upgrade, but I'm curious as to if they'd trade hits on games.

Not in Europe at that price. It basically costs the same of a 1080.

That's not even close to what most people are willingly to spend. For now both the 1080 and 1070 are priced for a very niche market of specialists and a few early adopters who don't mind the premium price.

In a few months time I'll be ready to upgrade. I'm guessing selling my 970 and picking up a 1070 is my best bet? Or is the 1080 worth the extra cash?

Huh, why are the two cards so closely priced in Europe...? In the States the MSRP on the 1070 is like 40% cheaper than a 1080.
