I can't imagine the mental gymnastics required to look at Minecraft and say it underperformed. They recently announced they've sold over one hundred million copies.
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-06-02-minecraft-sales-pass-the-astonishing-100m-milestone
I mentioned it earlier in the thread but I bet you anything most of them are the $6 mobile version on android and iOS so the revenue is weak despite 50k a dayAll makes sense, except Minecraft.
How 53,000k average per day years after release is below expectations?
Lets not get carried away, all he did was the only option they had, reverse course and re-focus on games, you know what every game console platform holder has ever done....
Would you consider the X1 sales as catastrophic ? Nope but to MS predictions it should sell twice as much so for microsoft it may seems catastrophic.
It's all a matter of perception.
That isn't the only thing he has done. There has been a very large focus on improving the console itself. Stuff like a new UI, Screenshots, and Backwards Compatibility (That's Huge!), the Pro Controller etc.
All you are seeing is game announcements when there is a lot more going.
I doubt phil was alone in all those improvements, they were going to happen regardless like any console after launch, they get improved and updated.
I somehow doubt Minecraft can be below projections when it's the second highest selling game of all time.
All makes sense, except Minecraft.

Being the best performing console for multiplatforms is certainly a start. I haven't seen anyone saying it'd be a game changer, but it certainly will help.

That seems a little strange too. Xbox One until the end of 2015 was tracking ahead of 360, but Microsoft was projecting the double?
The majority of consumers couldn't care any less about that. The only people that will buy the Scorpio are people who already own a Xbone, same goes for Neo.
What turn around? Things are the same now as they were 2 years ago sales wise
It's a good thing they don't hire you. Then why pay for games if they don't support your platform. Why not just let third party do that. Come on man.If I were Microsoft, I'd put all first party games on Xbox One and PC... Steam included. Do what's best for the games and stop trying to make Xbox One and Windows Store happen.
I don't know if someone else commented already, but I read somewhere that Project Spark didn't sell well, that it was below expectations.
Crazy talk. PS2 was custom cores everywhere with embedded memory all over the place. PS4 is the complete opposite. Standard cores, one flat bank of memory.True. A better way of thing to call it would be a PS2 clone, with some inspiration from the 360.
The majority of consumers couldn't care any less about that. The only people that will buy the Scorpio are people who already own a Xbone, same goes for Neo.
Better Ui, Frequent updates, More Exclusive games, Crossbuy/play, Larger party chats, Game Streaming, Backwards Compatibility. etc.. the console itself has gotten better under him i wasn't referring to sales.
Simply by wondering how much of those sales happenned after Ms bought Mojang. If they already were at (and it's a exageration but it serves my point) 99 millions then it hasn't seold well.
And moreover there's a huge diference between predictions and real sales.

Ohh I didn't see that, interesting. So nevermind about my point about mobile.40 % are mobile versions, 40 % are console versions, 20 % PC. They gave that info with the 50k a day.
I dunnoLMAO this isn't news MS wants out there a week before E3
I mean it could make things better for them. they have too many things against them a technically sound console is a good bonus to the turn around phil has been pulling.
If this course of action was so obviuous why didn't Mattrick do it. I don't think anyone knew exactly what phil was going to do. He's done a good job on being creative an innovate with is ideas beyond the status quo that your saying he's following and he should be commended if we're being fair.
Mu=ch of that happens no matter who is in charge.....like every other console. Doubt Phil was the sole reason behind these. Improvements happen throughout a console gen.
I dunno
Given MS's situation this gen I wouldn't be surprised if they have gone on a huge spending spree to secure lots of exclusives
This is a time for MS to be aggressive, to make up for their first party shortcomings, so we may see the results of that next week!

People, especially Microsoft, thought the same thing about people buying the XB1 because they had a 360. Look how that turned out.The majority of consumers couldn't care any less about that. The only people that will buy the Scorpio are people who already own a Xbone, same goes for Neo.
Big Don absolutely destroyed MS. I mean, seriously. I'm sure he had many on board behind him but jeez what a fucking wrecking ball that keeps on giving even now.
I've always thought paying Notch what MS did was completely ridiculous as well. They got played. Even if making a profit talk about a resource hog and time commitment to turn that transaction deal around.
Maybe in the markets where Xbox brand is strong like UK/US else where I doubt that plays much of a role.I disagree. Being the best place to play multiplats is a large part of why the PS4 is doing so well. It drive the value proposition a lot.
I don't think any of this PC initiative happens w/o Phil and as another person said Bc was on Phil and these exclusive are also on him.
You keep doubling down on this.
If your console is doing well then you only lightly improve it with updates (see PS4)... Xbox was in trouble and they knew they had to update the hell out of it. Phil led that. Could/Would another executive have done that too? Probably. but at the end of the day it's Phil at the wheel and he's doing a good job.
I dunno

The unified PC /console approach comes from the top down, Nadella not Phil.

250-300m install base still not enough? That's like 8 times PS4 install base.
Where are you getting that from?
Maybe in the markets where Xbox brand is strong like UK/US else where I doubt that plays much of a role.
Xbox One expectations 2013: One ... billion.
https://www.vg247.com/2013/05/24/xbox-one-microsoft-aims-for-1-billion-lifetime-sales-100-million-xbox-360-units/
So funny.
On the subject of Xbox One sales and the growth of the market with the herald of next-gen formats, Mehdi continued, Every generation, as youve probably heard, has grown approximately 30%. So this generation is about 300 million units. Most industry experts think the next generation will get upwards of about 400 million units. Thats if its a game console, over the next decade.
We think you can go broader than a game console, thats our aim, and you can go from 400 million to potentially upwards of a billion units. Thats how were thinking of the Xbox opportunity as we go forward.
Agreed.
Playstation brand recognition/appeal worldwide, is the larger part.
UWP and unified devices is Nadella's initiaitive. Xbox is just another division going that direction because that is the mandate from up top.
http://www.wired.com/2014/07/unified-windows/
Unified devices was Ballmer. Nadella just goes with it.
