And remember, we still didn't see
the leviathan fight video they were supposed to show at Gamescom
, so if they don't want to show it at Sony's conference, they will probably (and hopefully) show it at TGS + maybe a proper trailer.

Has square had any time to build up any meaningful neo bump though? They seem to be in a hurry with the Base version, and I wouldnt be surprised if the original release date was there to evade having to make a neo mode for the game.

Not sure if we're seeing footage this week, they could just put XV logo up there and announce that it will be available for Neo in November.

Generally it should just be possible to get the PS4 base version, crank up Luminous Engine settings a bit and do some QA work to check that everything runs okay. Assets are good so no need to touch those.

I actually think they wouldn't do themselves any big favors with that. Let's be honest, the game looks still pretty rough. It's not just tech nuts that can see this and are complaining about this. Other open-world games do look considerably better on the normal PS4 and Xbox One. Now the game has even been delayed for two months. Why? Well, one of the main reasons they gave us, is that the base PS4 and Xbox versions aren't visually up to par yet. If Square Enix now comes out in a couple of days and basically tells us: You know what, fuck the ugly base versions (that the owerwhelming majority of FFXV players will have to be content with), here's the much nicer Neo version for people that pay up, there will definitely be annoyed, disappointed and even angry people.
And before anyone again says, but they don't have any reason to be. Yeah, fans aren't really reasonable, are they? XD Even I will be at least annoyed, since I also don't plan to buy a new PS4 anytime soon. I actually bought the PS4 I own for FFXV, the best FFXV experience.

If the game looked already stellar on the old systems and wasn't delayed that would be a completely different thing. Then the Neo version would be the cherry on top of this masterwork of a cake. But it isn't in the current situation. :/

I disagree when you say other open world games look "considerably better". They don't, the game might have IQ issues but it's still a visually striking game with lots of high end features, for one Witcher 3 doesn't do animations, particles and lighting as good as FFXV. I'd say the same for Infamous and it doesn't even do day night cycles.

It does some things that others don't and doesn't do some things that others do. If you are a tech nut then you'll see how technically advanced this game is IQ aside.

If the final PS4 version looks at least as good as the PAX footage (and it apparently is progressing well and could look better even), then it's absolutely good enough for open-world standards and in some aspects exceeds the rest even.

That was one of the most embarrassing things I was exposed to in any videogame, DMC1 cutscene level bad.

I wasn't here when Crisis Core came out but I hope people made fun of it and derided it and whoever chose to have it in.

And PC versions of console games look a lot better, yet it's a good thing that they exist for those who want better graphics.

Neo version is no different. If you want better graphics, you have the option of buying Neo, and that's better than not offering a better looking version when there's more powerful hardware available when the game releases.

It is different. The PC is an entirely different platform. Not an all of a sudden superior version of your base console. The Neo announcement will take most PS4 owners by surprise in a couple of days. Not everybody is up to date with this.
Also, I mentioned some other specific circumstances why people will in my opinion be at least annoyed, like it already looking rough to begin with and being delayed for that very reason.
If the game looked already great and wasn't delayed, hardly anyone would have reason to complain. But lets be real, there would still be complainers. There always are. ;)

I don't see the difference, you can shell out money for better hardware which will make the game look better, you don't even need to buy the game again. If some people get angry for that then it's on them.

There's no cons in that unless you're a conspiracy theorist thinking that SE is gimping the PS4 version, which they have no reason to do.

And I also disagree that the game looks in any way unacceptable on PS4, it looks very nice especially after improvements in the latest build.

Nojima, who should clearly be kept far away from his own past work and any FF in the future (I know, I know, he's working on FFVIIR with Nomura and Kitase again). That FFX-2.5 novel was the straw that broke the camel's back for me and I honestly think he's given up and just wants to mess with fans as a social experiment to see how far he can go with nonsensical writing while still having fans eat it up :D Well, I guess he knows now, judging by the terrible reception in Japan.

On a sidenote, I do not really care about what Feminist Frequency thinks and says. So yeah. I do apologise if people are offended by my initial post.

Guessing we don't know this yet, but can we add notes to the world map? With no level scaling (as far as I can tell) there'll surely be dungeons and areas that you can't take on at some point, and will want to make a note to come back to later. Unless the missions, especially sidemissions, will have you see everything there is to see so there's no need to worry about missing anything.

Bit of a nitpick, but it bugs me a little how there seems to be no car entering animation. Especially since there's such a nice one for leaving the car.

Wait, now that you said it, I think we just haven't seen them enter the car in the recent footage, no? It always just cut to already being in the car, IIRC, but maybe someone remembers. Last year it was like this, with a menu before you could start driving:

The menu is still there in the new footage, but the cutscene is missing. Maybe the team thought it would be annoying to see it every time? Or it only happens for automatic mode?
