It's actually super cool that the OG PS4s get HRD output capability as well.
Do you know if its real hdr, or just accepting hdr and remapping it to sdr? Kinda like how 720p tvs could accept a 1080p signal.
Fine for casuals.
This box is for the hardcore right?

No doubt but how many people will buy a 4K TV just to get HDR out of their OG PS4's? They still haven't fully explained how that'll work or what games will support it that I'm aware of.

You can compare almost anything in short term and long term.Yeah, but you still can't just throw out the coat of the rest of the components...it's not a matter of having existing PC parts...this is part of the reason the comparisons between PCs and consoles font work...you can't expect a $400 console to have graphics equal to a PC with a $400 video card...it just doesn't work that way

Very true. Probably the number one reason why it isn't called PS4K.
Does anyone know the resolution the PS4 Pro renders before the checkerboard technique for this game?
Is the game any good?
I found the tomb raider ps3 version mediocre to be honest.

If you didn't like the 2013 version then you probably won't like this version tbh. I think it's great
Did I watch a different video from everyone else? He said right in the video that the game looked far better on PS Pro than it did on the normal PS4 at 1080P. For what is being shown, I think it's a nice upgrade. Is it worth the $400 asking price for such an improvement? I really don't know. You will have to answer that question yourself.
Someone said 1440p
Have you played uncharted 4?
I actually like tomb raider 3 a little better than uncharted 4 in some areas.
Is this one more like uncharted 4-slow pace, ect.
Would be somewhat pointless since developers already do tonemapping in their titles to get to LDR output.

A better comparison is this Xbox One at 1080p and PS4 Pro. Best to see what you're getting as apposed to what you're not getting.

One thing I think needs to be clarified about the purpose of checkerboard rendering is that it seems to be more of a solution to how poorly sub native resolutions usually scale on modern fixed pixel displays. It'll allow for resolutions greater than 1080p to look much nicer on 4K displays without the typical, more obvious scaling artifacts.
And the checkerboard rendering mode can also be used on native 1080p TV's to look significantly better than 1080p
People forget that this footage is comparing the checkerboard renderer to 4K native. Compared to 4K native, its going to look worse, but its significantly cleaner than 1080p in every scenario and that is what the point of the technique is

Two things I've learned from experience you should never cheap out on when building a PC: power supply and motherboard. You're playing with fire. Also, you have no RAM.
So your saying that a checkerboard render on a UHD screen looks more cleaner than a 1080p render on a Full HD screen? Hard to believe. Awesome if true.
If I understand it right, pure checkerboard rendering in terms of pixel clarity should be equal to 4k, this is because it's more of a recnstruction than an upscale. So your saying that a checkerboard render on a UHD screen looks more cleaner than a 1080p render on a Full HD screen? Of course it does, the pixel count is still higher. They aren't rendering at 1080p when using CBR.So your saying that a checkerboard render on a UHD screen looks more cleaner than a 1080p render on a Full HD screen?
And this is why you don't try to reach some high resolution on consoles.

But what it will suffer from is artifacting...especially in motion. They might offset this by implementing a TAA (like Rainbow Six Siege did) but that would blur the image slightly in the end.
Think how KZ: Shadowfall did 1080P in MP, the pixel clarity was equal to 1080P, despite halving the horizontal resolution, especially when in stills. In motion though you started to see artifacts.
Quick question - could I run the 1080p/30fps version on a 4K TV, or would it default to 4K ?
1TB of virtual RAM!Just download the RAM
That's where i stand on this too. PS4P seems like a console no one asked for. They should have rode the PS4s success into the ground. Then let Scorpio release next year and in 2018 blow it out of the water with a true 4K console. I feel like they got greedy and are trying to double dip in hardware sales.I feel like the PS4 Pro shouldn't exist, they should've just released a backwards compatible PS5 in November 2018 at $400 with a more modern CPU and GPU. I would've bought that.
Please don't hate me for saying that.

This video is rather more an example of focusing on not-even-actually-4K being an absolute waste this generation.
Thanks. Man, I wish Sony would get their $hit together and start demoing this at stores nationwide. Let people see the difference. Try out this game with the different display mode.
If they can get added effects in the checkerboard 4K mode and do supersampling for 1080p owners, both groups benefit significantly. Considering Sony is suggesting 2x 1080p as a base res before reconstruction, there should be enough grunt to do that and neither group will feel they have to compromise.Definitely true, 4k is a truly wasted endeavor to consoles at this point. It's messy and off looking but I still maintain that it's a strong effort given the hardware limitations.
Those resources would be far better spent giving 1080p all the bells and whistles though.
We're getting to the point where web video isn't going to cut it. 4k has to be viewed in person on a 4k display to fully appreciate it. And even then it's less obvious for gaming than I would have expected. It didn't knock my socks off or floor me.Don't think that's an a good comparison.
The video needs to be in 4K or you could compare the 1080p versions.
