NX officially has the least time between reveal and release of any Nintendo platform

How on earth is this official when it hasn't released yet? That's not what official means. You could say it is predicted least time, but that's it.

It's funny watching NX threads because you can see people going through all the stages of grief.

I think a lot of the frustration is coming from the fact that this thing is going to replace both the Wii U and the 3DS. As a result... Nintendo is slowing down support on one and outright ignoring the existence of another. There's pretty much nothing for Nintendo fans to be excited about right now outside of Pokemon.

At least during the Wii U hype cycle they were going all out supporting the 3DS...

Right, can we get a change to the title? About 8 times today I've logged on to GAF and my hearts skipped a beat at "NX officially...".

Literally nothing official about this.

This wait is too much without teases like this!!

First they don't care a lot about E3, secondly they didn't packaged breath of wild into a tease trailer or story trailer or adventure RPG trailer but just sand-boxed some pieces of their game build. It is not so cute, they behaved like an indie dev in a way too big booth space.

Oh great, so apparently if a developer doesn't make a very specific kind of trailer, he is either insecure or has no budget.

I can understand that, and yes 2013DS was a pretty amazing year.

Didn't they disprove that with the Direct a couple weeks ago?

You mean they behaved like a game developer, and not a movie director?

This is a make or break point for Nintendo. They're putting all their eggs in the same basket for the first time since they entered the videogame business. Since they're moving from a two-platform business to a single-platform one, there's an even greater pressure for this thing to be a massive success.

First impressions and the resulting word-of-mouth are crucial and they simply cannot afford the same type of confusing, underwhelming unveiling as the Wii U. I can't imagine they're not putting the utmost of care and consideration into how this thing will be presented to the masses.

None of that makes sense.
They decorated their whole E3 booth based on the game.
And the game was THE or one of the talks of the whole show.
As far as I know, they never under decored a in house EPD team project during a show like E3 before like they did with breath of the wild, the project which was secreted for months and moths without any audio-visual update (they are never talkative, but in these days it is never a good sign anyways). I think they are gonna reveal again botw with a proper game trailer later this year as a hart-beat info of Nintendo for their true fan.

To be honest, it's hard to be that excited about Wii U to 3DS ports. Sure, there were new games announced, as well as some neat localizations, but still, it's not the same as 2011-2012 3DS lineup, and not the same as its prime year (2013, IMHO), too.

I remember the silence right before Wiiu. Everyone thought that meant Nintendo Ninjas keeping ALLL THE GAMEZ secret from the world. And then we ended up with... Nintendo Land.

I hope the silence means something else this time.

At this point you're either trolling or you've turned the sarcasm meter to 11.

What do you mean, a "proper" game trailer? A CGI cinematic feast that has little to do with the actual game?

I think he means a story trailer, which imo isn't really 'more' proper than the gameplay trailer they've already shown. If anything, the E3 trailer is better because it showcases the breadth of the environments and freedom of exploration, no one really plays Zelda for the narrative.

They are apparently going hard on NDAs this time. Like pre 3DS reveal levels where if you are working on it you are in a room with no windows/internet access.

They really want the lid to stay on this one

NX has an official release month. There's nothing wrong with the title.

No it doesn't. Nintendo has a tweet from five months ago that all we know could be irrelevant in the months since then. I highly doubt any information given from a company about a product across social media when the public hasn't actually seen the thing in operation yet.

This whole thread is pointless and based on a tweet with no evidence regarding a system that currently does not exist.

Denial
"There's still a lot of time left in September, I swear! Some guy on Twitter said something about a September event!"

Anger
"Why didn't they unveil before TGS!? That was the perfect time!"

Bargaining
"Maybe next week they'll announce the date of the announcement? Maybe tomorrow?"

Depression
"What if Nintendo doesn't believe in the NX at all? What if they're delaying it for fall 2017?"

Acceptance
*Pending* *Repeat steps 1-4*

I can't see Breath of the Wild getting the story trailer considering how abrupt the opening sequence of the game is. And story trailers for other Zelda games were never really rich on story details... maybe except for Skyward Sword, but that's another story.

In fact, "Open your eyes, wake up, Link" is all I've ever wanted from a Zelda trailer regarding the game's story. :p

Yes indeed, so many games are treated like that, why should breath of the wild not be?

I can't name a single example of a Nintendo game from the last decade getting such kind of trailer, maybe with the so-and-so exception of Smash character reveal trailers.

After E3 2016 Nintendo fans were like: Spaceworld for sure is coming back! They will announce NX there!

Original source is a financial earnings announcement actually.

Right, and it's probably no coincidence they've decided to release the NES Classic this November and Super Mario Run in December. Alternative revenue streams are making up for traditional game and console sales. They saw this coming and knew they couldn't just abandon the holiday. They're going to make some good money while spending almost all their development time on the new console games, and as a side bonus they're going to remind the general public they still exist with an iOS app and a nostalgia machine.

IMO it's really not a bad plan except for the fact that their core fans really want NX info to hold them over.

They will have hell to pay in terms of stock since they also told their investors that date. You are acting like there isn't enough time but as long as they announce it before November they have plenty of time for March.

Because Nintendo's games focus on gameplay, not on narrative and so a CGI Story trailer makes no damned sense. That's not how Nintendo treats games.
I guess everybody knows breath of the wild is an adventure RPG, which without a story does not make sense at all, so please reconsider Your words. I know I'm trolling and to the measure of my abilities I'm sarcastic, but I'm also pushing some point of view in between.

The fact the headline is describing is literally official because it's literally true.

Wow...

It wasn't "just a tweet," it was also an announcement directly from Kimishima to shareholders at one of their quarterly meetings.

People are awfully eager to think March is just a placeholder date or somehow not official, but no one has presented a single reason why that is the case... Nintendo handhelds more often than not launch in the Spring, Nintendo has ALWAYS said NX will come FY16, and Nintendo rarely ever delays hardware for which they've given a launch date or month.

People laughing at March are getting annoying, and it's very confusing to me why that's such a common thing here.

Representatives from Nintendo have gone out of their way on several occasions to say that NX will be launching in March of 2017. It's all that's known, so it's what has to assumed to be true.

Breath of the Wild doesn't have a release date and could be cancelled or delayed until 2100 so should we not talk about that too?

I have a question: Why does it matter if the reveal is 5 or 4 months away from the release? It's more than enough time to understand the console, and decided whether you want it or not.

I know I'm trolling

Consider better ways to spend your time.

For example, try to find any CGI story trailer for any Zelda game, I dare you.

To be honest, I've always looked at the March 2017 announcement as a way to stick the release at the very final moment before the end of the current FY. However, I do believe they'll release NX in March, or, at the very least, very beginning of April.

What a surprise, just like I said. You don't need to troll.

It's not a bad plan at all, which is why it pisses me off that they have so many of these "release gaps" in their schedule all the time.

There is no back library like Nintendo's. HD remakes. DLC. Portable remakes. Virtual console. NOW you have mobile and additional little hardware things like the NES Classic. That's how you handle release droughts.

They'll be fine this holiday, but the core Nintendo fan that wants those big, new, high budget experiences is going to have a painful wait ahead of them :)

Nintendo wouldn't say a specific month and say it more than once if it wasn't the date.
Things can change but nothing official or otherwise suggests it will miss March.
There are people that think it won't even be revealed this year.
"Fall" which is the only mention of a time by someone from Nintendo started today and people are acting like they're still not ready, it's hilarious.
And like her or don't but Emily Rogers boldly tweeted that the reveal will be in October and Wall Street Journal said the same.
She also heard that Nintendo was ahead of schedule with the NX.
But none of that matters, it will be revealed in a few years and come out Holidays 2030.

Wait what? So E3 was about Nintendo's "fake fans"? LOL

Most we're going to get at this point is maybe "hey there's a big Nintendo event on X day in October!"

There's not going to be a stealth NX direct in September (at least I don't think).

Okay not sure why you're telling me this? I said announcement not reveal.
