No?
We are already speculating it releasing on other platforms, and it being multiplat is a good thing

I honestly don't think this will come out for other platforms since the original games whereas exclusive for PS1. Either way the game looks good

Alright, I think I can get on board with the new artstyle. Some nice touches in there too, like being able to see that the bounce crate holds multiple Wumpa fruit.

Edit: wait, why are there chomping sounds when Crash picks up Wumpa fruit? Why did they change the bonus token sound?

Yeah some of the sound effects really bother me. I dunno if Naughty Dog could have assisted them in making higher quality sounds that match the originals but its a nitpick.

As is hinted at in the PS Blog post, most of the assets from the originals are pretty unusable by today's standards. Sounds included. The ones that did hold up quality wise are used.

Ah okay, I hadn't read the Blog post yet.

Honestly the rest of it sounds pretty good. But that chomping lol.

Maybe I'm spoiled by the new Ratchet & Clank, but this doesn't look that good even when you know that they're only remasters.

Though also insomniac has the advantage of 1. Ratchet and Clank being a PS2 game with most of the animations being of decent quality comparitvely and 2. Being the same kind of developer that made the original game in the first place unlike VV not being the OG devs of the first 3 crash games.

I'm personally fine with these changes minus one little thing, make crashes spin more cartoony to where you can't see his hands....it just looks weird when you can tell the model is just litterally being spun with some slight "whoosh" animations going around it.

In the announcement they never said exclusive, or even appearing first on ps4. Even for the stupid skylanders appearance they emphasized first on ps4. This is a multiplat for sure, which is good. Expose more people to Crash.

Yeah, Acti is both developing and publishing the game. It's a timed exclusive at worst.

Well, not quite. I think they're actually subbing in a version of Crash with four faces:

i'm confused by the people saying the graphics look bad, looks pretty good to me.

Likewise. Artistic choices are up for grabs, but I think technically it looks really good.

I'd have to go dig up my old assets, but yeah basically they would've had to start from scratch. The sounds and music if memory serves were stereo 44.1/16. I think they could've reused that stuff if they wanted to, but maybe they wanted to re-record for 5.1 surround if they didn't have the original masters?

With all this retro and nostalgia with Sony lately, it would be nice if they went the extra mile and brought back the colored PS logo for future box art.

And maybe even give us special reversible box art that resembles the original ps1 versions, just slightly upgraded for games like crash bandicoot remastered and FF7 Remake.

it still looks weird, focusing on the arms makes it look like again that they're just spinning the model lazily when before it was just a solid spin color.

The spin animation could use more work TBH. Looks primitive.

If anything, the spin should be a smear. Like this:

Activision remade Goldeneye 007 for the Wii and released HD versions a year later. They own the IP, they can do whatever they want.

"Uh-oh"

Crash spoke in the intro.

The opening cinematic does look pretty good though.

He says uh-oh in the original game too.

One thing I'm curious about; I wonder why this is not a Sierra-branded game since Crash and Spyro came from Sierra/Vivendi.

Geometry Wars 3 retained the branding at retail:

Would've been cool personally. Then again, Mind Over Mutant and Dawn of the Dragon were last second re-branded as Activision games (box only, I don't think the code even mentions Activision, they weren't in the logo intros to my knowledge).

I dunno, I think I like the arms being visible because it actually demonstrates what the hell is going on when Crash "spins" into an enemy. It's kinda like the way the low-res sprites in the original Mario games didn't make it entirely clear that Mario was punching blocks rather than bopping them with his head.

Although honestly, I think after seeing that animation a few times it's going to become so mundane that we'll quickly stop noticing.

Man I didn't remember him speaking at all in the original game. But it has been such a long time since I have played through the original Crash.

Funny how they made Crashes girlfriend look less helpless in the remade intro too. I like it though.

Looks amazing, and I wasn't even that big on Crash in the day.

I don't imagine it being multiplatform when the trilogy it's remastering is Playstation exclusive, and has remained that way - but if it is, then great, the more the merrier.

Wow the updated graphics feel perfect! Keeping it simple enough not to mess with nostalgia but updated enough not to feel like your eyes are bleeding.

Actually, they do have higher quality sounds. Or at least they should.

All the music in the originals was recorded at higher quality and then made to fit within the PS1's hardware. An example is this boss theme.

Every time I watch the footage in this thread I can't help but smile. Seriously, I'm so happy we're getting not only Crash, but the best Crash games on modern hardware. It feels so great to have him back.

The spin animation is horrible, and the jump animation needs work.

I'm so mad Activision is involved in this, but at least it seems like the developers behind it have actually played the games. Day one anyways.

I finished Crash 2 for the very first time this week on my Vita.

This can't come soon enough. I'm expecting a $60 price tag but hopeful we'll see $40.

Already confirmed $39.99 US.

Activision said:
Crash Bandicoot® N. Sane Trilogy is slated to launch in 2017 and is available now worldwide for pre-order on PS4 and PS4 PRO for the suggested retail price of $39.99. For more information about Crash Bandicoot® N. Sane Trilogy please visit www.crashbandicoot.com.

This is actually Vicarious Visions fifth Crash game. So they do have experience with the character and the franchise.

Crash Bandicoot: The Huge Adventure - 2002 - GBA
Crash Bandicoot 2: N-Tranced - 2003 - GBA
Crash Nitro Kart - 2003 - PS2, Xbox, GCN, GBA and mobile
Crash Bandicoot Purple: Ripto's Rampage (companion game with Spyro Orange: The Cortex Conspiracy) - 2004 - GBA

They mostly developed Crash games for the GBA with the exception of Nitro Kart. But they were also working on another Crash project in 2012 that was cancelled. I have a feeling that it might have been scrapped for this reboot of the original trilogy as well as a Skylander's tie-in.

Overall, Vicarious Visions is not a bad choice to hand off development to.

Why are they calling this a remaster? It's a remake. Remakes and remasters are completely different.

I guess because they TECHNICALLY managed to get access to the original level geometry and this game's level art is built on top of those, but yeah. It's a remake. Everything else is done completely fresh. As Dan Tanguay says in the blog post --
and as I've said a million times on GAF since E3
-- 'remastering' them in technical terms is nearly impossible.

It's about how I expected it to look and I'm really happy with it so far. I guess we'll see Crash 2 and 3 stuff in their own trailers.

Also I trust Vicarious Visions based on their previous Crash work including the GBA games which were not only nice games but they captured the feel of Crash.

that all looks fucking fantastic. Great revival - particularly the crash model, looks just like he should.

As an aside, I'm really enjoying the negative reactions to this after people have been clamoring for it for a decade. Like there's basically no way these devs could have gotten it "right"

It's okay for people to have different opinions. There is no need to belittle them.

Looks so good. Some of my family members who only game on mobile phones/tablets now suddenly wanted a PS4 after seeing this on FB.
