You're 100% correct, but in my opinion, it does more damage to the cause than good when you deliberately skew the argument by using used components, or eBay prices, or anything along those lines...
I don't think the argument is skewed but it might be a necessary evil anyway to get the main point across. A video titled "$800 new PC vs PS4 Pro" is not going to generate any sort of worthwhile discussion as very few people will look past the initial price to examine the overall value proposition. Also, it wouldn't be at all suitable for examining an old PC's performance with a GPU upgrade.
I think the video and the whole series is meant to get the ball rolling on the value over time discussion and it achieves that goal. That's why I've been saying that people taking this as buying advice are missing the point. The takeaway from it isn't that you should scrounge eBay and build a $400 PC out of used parts to compete with the PS4 Pro. The conclusion should be that the extra money you'll pay for a PC is worth it as you will get a lot of mileage out of it and it won't be hopelessly outdated in two years, as many people still seem to think.
