Psyonix crossing fingers for Rocket League on switch

I guess it would be nice, but I really doubt it would be a huge deal, idk how many people would be on the servers after Nintendo starts charging for online especially considering that most people who like RL probably already pay for xbl or psn or play it on pc for free

They need o make a Rocket League account so all my stuff carries between versions. I'd be more inclined to triple dip.

Actually, all multiplat games need this.

You need it for bounce shots, which are a fundamental for even mid level play in my book. Also for just mild touches in general, it's next to impossible to control the ball for a full fli--
You can't dribble on digital triggers. Welp.
I think people underestimate the handicap of digital acceleration.

But yeah air roll+powerslide + scoreboard, you'd need to give one up as a good option.

Hmm point taken, I mean I haven't tried it but would some of these maybe work by simply tapping the acceleration-button? I know high-level keyboard players are a thing on PC so they either must be so good to compensate for not being able to do these or there's a workaround.

"to all the it needs analogue" learn to tap been doing that a long time now

This. Tapping the accelerator and brakes is a fine way to control any racing game, sure it won't favour you in a competitive scene but it's not the be all and end all that people are making it out to be.

I honestly believe that the devs of this game want the game to come out on the NS and it'll actually make it at some point. Nintendo definitely won't stop them from bringing the game over. It's not a game I would play, but I do hope it comes over so those who enjoy it will have a chance to play it on the NS.

Nintendo should be paying Psyonix to have it on their system at launch. Literally zero reason not to outside of Nintendo doing the usual Nintendo shit.

Would be cool, but you're not going to get out of silver league with a joycon. How are you going to air roll? Its hard for me to play RL without my XBOX Elite controller, I cannot imagine a Joycon controller.

2) Can the switch run it? I mean, if games like Titanfall 2 and Borderlands "can't" run on the Switch, maybe most games originally designed for PS4/XB1 can't either...which I'm guessing is more what Psyonix's concern is.

It's Unreal Engine 3 and runs on Potatoes (Google: "Potatoe League") so yes, it can run on Nintendo's system. The question is: Is it worth the effort? Nintendo's terrible online offering/service, battery life, and the small-ass controllers probably aren't worth trying to make a comfortable set-up for the game since it uses 2 triggers (gas/break), A (jump), B (boost) and a left-thumbstick in addition to select-start (which aren't on the Joycon?) for pause and other functions.

Unless you are strictly talking about using the individual joycons has separate controllers and not one whole, they do have the + and - buttons as their start and select buttons.

I'm thinking individual due to local-splitscreen multiplayer that the other versions have. I seriously can not see them making it work on Nintendo's system if they wanted to keep feature parity and comfortable controls.

This can't even be a "not sure if the market is there" type of comment we see from a lot of devs. The market is there, I legitimately think Psyonix would make it work if it was in their power to.

Uh... Good thing you don't have to play it with a Joy-con then?

🤔

The game has pretty simple controls. I don't see how they would pose much challenge to map to a switch controller.

For the local multiplayer in the other consoles, people need to buy additional controllers... Which the Switch also allows. Joycons with grips, Pro... If anything it would be them adding more options with the single Joycon setup.

Feature parity, etc... I mean, at worst, the Switch can do anything the Wii U can. And is not like this game has some unique or impossible online features not possible on other platforms.

The only issue then would be the lack of a second stick when each joycon is used individually.

At which point they could just require that multiplayer is only done through either using two joycons paired together (which would just function like a normal controller) or a pro (which is just a normal controller). It's not like they haven't restricted what kind of controllers you can use in the past.

Those asking if this would run on Switch:

They dont just change the file name to .switch and see if it runs. They could make a last gen version that would still look pretty good. And switch is somewhere in between last and current gen so getting it to run wont be an issue.
PC version at medium settings should be fine when docked.

Rocket league seems to be trash now ever since they added the "supply drop" like system having to buy keys for cosmetics. People just wrap a rubber and around their controllers and afk 24/7 now

I would preorder this digital title out of fear that it might sell out. I reeeallly want this. The potential for local multi-player betwixt Switches is super exciting.

What an odd post, didn't expect this in a RL hype thread

I really do think a single joycon would work fine for non-serious play. Especially if you're split-screening on the Switch for 2s.

Games like rocket league show the most compelling reason to be excited for the switch from a third party perspective.

They don't want to cannibalize sales from their 1st party multiplayer game (Splatoon)... which is already going to suck due to no one paying for a subscription

On the contrary, they would want more multiplayer games on their platform so more people buy subscriptions.

It's just that I love the game but this should probably be addressed before it becomes the first impression for switch players

Nintendo should make a rip off of Rocket League for their next Mario Kart battle mode...

I think a big issue people have is that the main draw of the Switch is the ability to go into handheld mode. That means you DO have to use the JoyCons when not using your TV.

This is my biggest issue with VC and fighting games.

Oh god I didn't think you were serious. I'm assuming you're not playing regularly as literally nobody on matchmaking is AFKing for crates.

I assumed he meant playing with a single Joycon.

WTF does this even mean, fingers crossed? We hope Nintendo stamps us with the seal of approval? We hope it'll run? We hope they pay us $10 million for it? Why does a developer and self publisher has to cross some fingers and hope, hope on what exactly? If you want to make the game for Switch, make it.

It seems like an absolute no brainer. It might even help to drive their paid online. If they could get local MP working well too - it feels like such a classic "Nintendo" type game - multiplayer, fun at parties. Would be amazing on mobile and if they a=managed to get Nintendo themed cars in there, like Mario kart skins. If Nintendo don't see how big this would be then it's proof that they've got their head stuck firmly in the sand.

This. Gaming community are such suckers for this sort of thing. If they want to make it for Switch, they can and will. The game runs on UE3 for christ's sake.
