Nintendo Switch Super Bowl Commercial

But will the extended trailer air ??

The short one is basically missing the whole point.

Also i would add, this is the worst thing you can show to parents, that their kid will play a game all day lol. But that's not the target right now i know.

Naw... Superbowl ads are too damn expensive for that. But... watching the ads online is pretty big in recent years, so plenty of people will still see both.

Not sure if this is sarcasm, but I'll respond as if it isn't. I don't think I've ever seen a "mainstream" commercial that advertised pre-ordering a product. Isn't that normally aimed at the "core" fanbase?

I dunno, some movie trailers and TV shows that pony up Super Bowl ad money are released very well into the future (Summer or Fall). The idea is more that 40-50 million eyes will be watching and know that this product will be out in the market in March.

Nice ads. The Zelda and Street Fighter background references are cool. Didn't spot any others yet.

Good to see Nintendo's marketing on point so far with Switch.

ha! I didnt even notice the sf2 reference

As I mentioned in the UK ad thread, I prefer the UK one than the NA one.

The good thing about the NA ad, is that it has more third party games, but too many children. It looks like something more for kids than adults. At least for me.

The big thing for me is that new Mario and new Zelda launches haven't felt like a big deal in such a long time, outside of the Nintendo fan community. Nintendo hasn't treated them as huge events, like they were back during the 90's.

Focusing the Super Bowl ad on Breath of the Wild is a really smart move. This game should be huge for them coming out the gate.

It's incredible just how much more effective and stylish yet simple this commercial is in comparison to literally anything during the Wii U era.

I don't know what Nintendo did to improve their marketing on so many levels - but they definitely should keep doing that! Really good ad, it will get some attention during Superbowl.

The ad will focus on Switch's main feature: the ability to play games at home in front of a television or on the go. It starts with someone playing The Legend of Zelda in bed and while making breakfast, then popping the tablet-like device into a dock to continue playing on TV. The ad also features the song Believer from Imagine Dragons.

The 30-second spot will run during the fourth quarter of Super Bowl LI between the New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons. A longer version of the ad will appear online, and feature more games including Mario Kart, 1-2-Switch and Splatoon 2.

"The fourth quarter is traditionally the highest rated quarter of the Super Bowl, so we're very excited about our placement," said Chavez.

I can play on the Wii U gamepad in my bed and kitchen, that doesn't really communicate the portability.

Don't worry. No one bought a WiiU, so they won't be looking to compare.

Only sorta kidding. I mean WE bought a WiiU and I loved it) but the mainstream barely noticed it.

Millions of people are gonna see this for the first time and be like "Holy shit it's out in less than a month?!"

This is pretty big too, people not having to wait months for it and then forgetting about it until the holidays.

Nintendo wants your tax return money lol

It's really smart to advertise on the Super Bowl. Great move, Nintendo;

And, basically, a Harry Potter minigame in 1-2 Switch!

The guy playing the game didn't appear to be having much fun beyond the slight smirk at the end. It was a tad depressing actually.

It seems to be more an ad for Zelda than the Switch. That's probably a good thing as trying to highlight all the information about the Switch in a 30 second spot would be confusing.

Love the ad, love the song.

Feels like it's been a lifetime since the last time I was excited for a Nintendo platform.

The Switch's the real deal.

You definitely have a point, but the ad does not focus on children too much IMO. It seemed like a healthy mix of age groups.

I thought the extended ads problem was just combing to focus too much on kids and casual/party/waggle gaming.

For kids, that's just not the early adopter market for a console launching outside of the hollidays. Middle class and below parents aren't buying a $300 console plus games etc. in March. Save those types of adds for the holiday marking push.

For the casual/waggle stuff, I just think that Wii market is gone. Even games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band failed in their comeback attempts. And I really don't see average, non-core gamer people playing things like 1 2 Switch in public.

Gaming still has too much of a stigma outside of mobile. I live I a major city and work for an urban university. People were playing Pokemon everywhere the first couple of months Pokemon Go hit. Yet it's an incredibly rare event to see someone playing a 3DS or Vita. And when I do it's clearly a core gamer as it's some loner sitting by themselves on campus playing their portable, while their are groups of students hanging out nearby, messing on their phones together etc.

But who knows, and I'm typically wrong about this things. I hated the Wii and waggle shit with the fire of a thousand suns, easily my least favorite gaming platform I've owned and I've been gaming since NES.

So maybe that biases my pessimism on that stuff catching on. In any case, it's another thing that has me thinking about canceling my preorder as I'm just not convinced the game library is going to do enough to appeal to me if they're too committed to chasing the Wii crowd. I need to see more than junta their standard flagship franchises that I'm mostly sick of at this point. I'll think about it a while longer, but I'm leaning more toward canceling and just getting Zelda on Wii U and waiting until 2018 to see how the Switch library is shaping up. $300 is a lot for an underpowered console (I don't care about portables) when Zelda is the only game I'm truly excited for and I can play that on hardware I already own.

The Wii U didn't fail because lack of advertising friend

Actually, if you look at it overall, bad advertisement and communication really is what done the Wii U in. It's name, having Wii remotes in it's ads, never giving it a real premise in what few ads were created for it. To this day, people still don't know the thing even exists.

Weird that they didnt use the clips of some of the other parts of the extended part instead as they showed off way more features. I know they only get 30 seconds but seems like a missed opportunity for the general public.

This is 2017, most people who are interested in Switch after seeing the ad on Super bowl Sunday will go research more online, and from there they will find other Switch videos and the extended ad.

Pretty much anybody thats thinking about buying some tech, will have laptops, PC's, tablets, ipads, smart phones. People that dont use that stuff wont be buying Switch, unless its for their kids or grand
kids.

So its not that big of a deal that the 30 sec ad doesnt show everything

The fact that 1,2,Switch and Just Dance didn't completely ruin the extended cut is a testament to how well they're selling this thing.

30 second ad is about as perfect as you'll get for the time frame, but it would be great if that full extended cut could air.

wow really good ad. Makes me more excited for March 3.

edit* The extended version needs to be the super bowl commercial. I know it's not possible because of money and length but it is so much better than the short one.

Naw... Superbowl ads are too damn expensive for that. But... watching the ads online is pretty big in recent years, so plenty of people will still see both.

But you realize the millions potential who could be interested, ideally, in the idea of a convivial gaming device to play with friends in parties...

Will be invited to go see a trailer online by 30 seconds of a lonely geek playing a zelda game from bed to toilets.

It's Nintendo fucking up their communication again. Bravo Nintendo
