[Digital Foundry] New Scorpio Spec Leak: ESRAM Gone, GPU Features Revealed

Nothing in that post sounded bad.

Im quite happy with Wide Color Gamut inclusion. I just need some hdmi audio out.

No, it's not bad. Some people wanted HDMI 2.1.. but I'm fine with keeping my current 4K TV.

4K UHD was expected but nice to be "confirmed".

People just want GPU/CPU stuff.. the nuts and bolts, and we didn't get it, so people complain. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I know this might come off as salty but honestly Idk if Jez has any actual insiders or if people at MS just use him as a controlled leak. Notice how he got NPD numbers twice when it was close then nothing when the gaps were bigger? Plus Aaron retweeted those articles almost instantly

He was also the one that was told Scalebound was officially cancelled aswell. Maybe I'm reading too much into it but that's what I think. His "leaks" always play it too safe IMO

He works for microsoft, doesn't he? O am I missing something and windowscentral is some kind of independent web? Honest question..

PS: #imanassholetoo

Jez, Daniel Rubino, and others from Windows Central are still in the honeymoon phase where they get utterly fascinated by any sort of leaks.

To them, it's like they don't even care about what the leaks are, or whether the leaks are actually providing any new information. They just feel special because someone is leaking stuff to them, so then they play up the leaks as much as possible in order to kind of brag about the fact that they (think they) have sources leaking to them.

This isn't a leak, it's drip fed info from MS being overly exaggerated for clicks.

Ntkrnl coming out now dropping bombs like he did before would be a leak.

Daniel Rubino said they have the list of launch games.

You guys need to relax. The article isn't written just for GAF. I know it's hard to believe but for some this is new news.

I like Microsoft, but Daniel Rubino would drink poison if Microsoft served it in a cup to him. His site, Windows Central, used to be Windows Phone central. The guy was "fighting the good fight" as the king of fanboys defending the horrendous Windows Phones during 2012-2015 period. Do not get hyped for shit he says guys. He will overhype whatever Microsoft tells him to overhype.

The guy is basically MisterXMedia Pr0 edition.

That boost mode news recently for PS4 Pro, we don't yet know how this will work for Scorpio right? It would be great if there's a ton of old games that will play and look better right from the start because I already know by the time it launches I'll still have plenty of unfinished games in my backlog. I personally hope for games like Rise of the Tomb Raider, so that we're finally rid of the nasty jaggies for example. But I guess that all depends on how Scorpio improves older games or if a patch is needed.

How's the work on the store going? I know you said before it was bare bones because you guys were working on consolidating the Win10 and XBOX stores. Now that that's complete are you guys working on fixing the issues the PC users complain about?

Actually, Windows Phone was awesome and you never owned one. You are clueless.

This has been covered a bunch of times man. Unlocked frame rates will max out. Same with frame rates that would dip before, probably won't now.

It's not really relevant to this thread, but through 2016 and 2017 there has been nonstop work going on to fix many different store issues of all different types. As of December 2016 all known issues that affected Forza, Gears, etc. were fixed, and the data proves it. There was some new stuff for Halo Wars 2 which is being fixed separately.

Also note that, just like any software product, just because someone sees something in 2017 which seems similar to an issue they saw in 2016, it's not necessarily the same issue.

Maybe I explained it wrong but I meant a visual boost or improvement. Didn't several older multiplatform games also receive a graphics enhancement on Pro or were those only recently released games?

I still cant get Killer Instinct to work, everything else does though. It downloads then errors every time.

Edit - Wow it has just actually completed. Technical fellows redeemed!

MUAHAHAHA.

I developed for it.

I owned two, a 920 and a 830, both gifted to me by Microsoft at conferences, Build 2012 and Build 2013. It was a bad platform outdated by the competition, eternally playing catch-up, and lead by a team of people who switched their minds every six months.

After three years of forcing myself to like Windows Phone, I got an iPhone, and I have never been happier.

Games that supported dynamic resolutions will look better immediately or will be easier to patch. I am not sure if all games will receive a performance boost. Sony's API is closer to the metal than Microsoft's and it is possible that this could prevent Xbox One games from immediately taking advantage of the new compute power.

they were patched and outside of games with dynamic resolution you will need patches for scorpio too

boost mode just removes some artificial limits sony put in for compatibility, it doesn't otherwise enhance games

I agree - I loved my Lumia Icon.

I like my Android phone that I have now (Samsung Galaxy 7), but I'm remembering why I left Android ~4 years ago to try out WP - so damn buggy, even on one of the highest end pieces of hardware out there. The amount of apps is great, though, and was probably the biggest issue with WP.

Thankfully Windows 10 Mobile came along, it's awesome.

I owned an iPhone and now Android still think WP was awesome. Love the OS. I also really like iPhone. Android is awful.

Yep. I basically turned my Android into a Windows phone. MS Arrow launcher makes it tolerable.

WP was not awesome. It lacked essential apps, the notification system was broken, there were battery issues, the OS updates situation was third-party Android levels of bad, platform features were often Nokia innovations which Microsoft took long to standardize and support, etc.

Fanboys who do not hold their chosen platforms to real scrutiny and critique are the reason why there will always be a buyer for shit products.

I like the Xbox, I want to continue playing Halo and the classics I owned during the last gen, but the Xbox One was a fucking mistake, and Microsoft is going to have to do a lot to get back to a competing position with Sony. Hopefully, they don't fuck it up with Scorpio.

I've used them all also. They all have their pros and cons.

Currently have a 7+, but kind of getting bored of iOS. Might hop back to android this year or next year.

I do miss the Windows Phone UI very much though. Great design and live tiles were great.

This plus the tight integration with onedrive etc that I use for my productivity is convenient. I would never recommend a windows phone to someone who asks me what they should buy, the app gap is just too big for a lot of users, but in my use case it's quite good.

Current biggest annoyance is that the keyboard swiping on messenger is wonky with and for some reason there's a pause whenever you activate/deactivate an alarm.
