Switch Pro controller takes the throne for me in terms of controllers

My buddy is a huge fan of that controller as well. It's one of my next controller purchase, but I can't personally put it into my controller ranks without having it so that's why for me DS4 was tops til now.

It's funny how people have such different outlooks on best and worse on things like this. I would rank PlayStation controllers as the worst controllers ever made. I've played an owned all of them, excluding the new switch controller, but my rankings would be Xbox elite, Xbox reg, wiiu pro, Xbox 360, Xbox S, n64, snes, nes and then any PS controller.

I hope the switch pro is great, and comes down in price in the future.

Ps3 controllers were awful, but ds4 is an awesome controller through and through

I really think the xbox elite controller is more of a niche controller. Most aren't spending 100+ on a controller, I will eventually get one but I'm in no major rush... This was more meant for actual bundled controllers that we get from consoles. Just saying.

The Pro controller isn't bundled with the switch...?

For me X1 > Pro > DS4

When someone says that a controller is great, I usually ask them one question.

"How would you rank the gamecube controller?"

If they rank it high, than their opinion on controllers is garbage.

Replace Game Cube with N64 and I'm pretty much the same lol

The dual shock 4 is great, but the battery life is awful. I don't think the pro is perfect, the d-pad is very stiff for one thing, but it's a nice controller.

The 360 controller was the first controller I thought was basically perfect.

Yea you're right, my bad on that. I consider it tho the main controller, I don't really consider the joycon as a controller since I just didn't plan on using it at all.

But as I said earlier, I can't rank the elite yet so it's pointless to really hear about it atm for me.

I'd probably have to agree, almost solely based on the battery life.

The other features they tacked on are great as well. Splatoon 2's gonna be fantastic with motion controls on a standard controller and not that terrible gamepad.

Considering the amount of features the Joycons and Pro controller have, I have no damn idea how the battery life on the Dualshock 4 sucks so much.

I'm not trying to argue the fact, it's just funny to me how completely opposite that statement is for me. If I could just use an Elite for every system and never touch a PS controller it would be amazing.

Id be more compelled to buy an elite if I didn't like the controllers I use, but I find no issue with really any for the situations. My Xbox one S for my Pc gaming is pretty perfect, so I just don't feel any major reason to spend the dough on an elite yet

Lol DualShock 4 sucks

They needed analog triggers on switch pro and headphone jack to be in discussion to top Xbox one pad

Battery life is godly though which is a huge plus. also gyro, HD rumble. All it needs is headphone jack and analog triggers DAMNIT

I prefer the Xbox One because of the button positions and A/B position.

So much Stockholm syndrome for the Xbone.

Correct answer is Gamecube wavebird.

It's almost as if the convential button layout hasn't been that way for nearly 27 years!
What does this mean? Xbox dodging trademarks somehow makes it conventional? And if you want to go down the popularity road, what xbox games sells more than Nintendo's heavy hitters? They can't even see Splatoon this generation.

No headphone jack puts it automatically behind the DS4 for me. Outside of that I love the controller and the battery life makes up for a lot of what I don't like about it. Stick placement and the afformentioned jacklessness.

I'll get one eventually. Probably... For now I find the joycon combiner thing to be perfectly fine.

And yes, DS4 battery life makes me sad. I wound up just getting a huge USB cable since I use it for myth my PC and PS4

I would have to agree. The DS4 has terrible build quality and battery life. It's more comfortable than the DS3, but that's not saying much considering that was practically unusable. I don't understand the love for DS4 at all, I think it's terrible honestly.

The DS4 isn't even as good as standard xb1 controller or the revised xb1s controller. It's better than the ds3, but that's not saying much at all. It's uncomfortable, the triggers are completely ridiculous because if you put any pressure on the front while the controller is set down the triggers depress. The light bar and track pad are utterly worthless. The trackpad could be cool if Devs made use of it, but not even 1st party games do. The Switch Pro also isn't in the running because it's got digital triggers and buttons. That's ridiculous.

How can you say that when it doesn't have a touchpad? I don't think I could ever use a controller without a touchpad. Touchpads are just the best. Think of all the great touchpad-exclusive features you're missing out on.

Like... all of them... those features.

So it's logical now to compare an expensive Elite controller that doesn't come with the XB1 and an expensive Pro controller that doesn't come with the Switch with a packed in DS4? Why is this even a thing?

What's really funny is that in order to play games properly on the Switch, you have to buy the Pro controller. The thing doesn't come with a good enough controller so you're forced to buy an expensive one and people are just praising the hell out of it. It doesn't even have a d-pad. Fighting games are a no-go out of the box.

Imagine if Sony or Microsoft released a console with a garbage controller and said, "pay $70 for the real one separately." The internet would be on fire.

Surprised by the DS4 dislike, I think it feels great. I loved it second I used it.
I have one for pc, and while i love the functionality of it, it looks and feels like a Logitech controller, especially if you put stick covers on it. Something about how the grips are shaped just feels a little different.

It's great. Someone in another thread described it as feeling like a premium racing wheel. That's a great way of describing it. So comfortable.

Lots of people complaining about DS4 battery life which is weird. I never had any problems with the battery life, it last with me easily for about 2 or 3 playing sessions (each one two to 3 hours) before i get battery low message, and i always put my ps4 on stand by and it keeps the USB powered for 3 hours after yo put the system on stand by which is enough to fully charge the controller after each session.

Sony asked for $65 for a terrible battery life and crumbly sticks. And the gyro is the worst on the market.

5-6 hours of battery life on a controller is bad, when the wave bird was doing 20.

You should update OP.

My personal dislike is the size and shape. I feel like everything is to close and it makes my hands hurt. I also dislike the dpad location. Xbox and switch/wii have that right.

It gets about 5 hours. It's always on your mind when playing, and you always have to remember to plug it back in. Compare that to 25 hour battery life of the Xbone controller and 40 hour battery life of the switch pro controller.

I'm partially joking. It's not bad, I think it's actually has best dpad for certain games. Mainly fighting. Overall though I can rank it as better than Xbox one s or pro controller

Xbox controller overall is very solid. Pro controller has too many extra utilities and benefits. Battery life, had rumble, gyrometer, NFC. While also being very good. Just wished for analog trigger and headphone jack :(.

Elite most likely the best for sure.

Its an amazing controller. The grip isn't bad by any means but this is on another level of comfort. If you aren't playing Zelda with one you need to get one.

Even without the QA issues the DS4 is still probably the worst controller out of XB1, Nintendo Wii U / Switch Pro and Sony. It's not terrible but it's just doesn't beat the others

The Joycons are pretty good dual-wielded surprisingly.

xbox one elite controller > all controllers
Not completely.

I own an Elite. Love it. But the Switch Pro is even more comfortable and has better feeling buttons. And it has Bluetooth and a 40 hour battery. If it had analog triggers it would be near perfect.

No headphone jack so it kinda loses out automatically.

Also,over priced.

Actually it's not overpriced at all. It's far better than the lousy DS4 with its 4 hour battery, and better than the regular XB1 controller, and not that much more than them. Keep in mind you need to buy an extra rechargeable battery for that XB1 controller.

As for headphone jacks, no, not everyone cares about that.

I can't wait for Platinum's first Switch game so I can really put the Switch Pro Controller through its paces. It feels amazing for Zelda, but I want something that's really going to make me hammer those glorious huge face buttons. I don't need analogue triggers outside of racing games, and I'm probably not going to play any of those on the Switch, so it's pretty much perfect.

I would say the JoyCon Grip is probably the worst controller this side of old MadCatz shit, though. The deadzones on those sticks are atrocious; gyro aiming is 100% essential because you have so little precise control with the sticks themselves.

The Switch Pro controller is up there for me. It's great, but has some flaws like every other controller.
When someone says that a controller is great, I usually ask them one question.

If they rank it high, than their opinion on controllers is garbage.
How about if I told you that I thought the GC was great despite its several shortcomings, yet I still love the 360/One/DS4/Switch Pro controller as much, if not more than it? Would that SHOCK you? lol

Nah.

Microsoft has had a lock on controllers since the S model release on the OG Xbox, with the XBO elite being the culmination of that design. If it wasn't for the battery life and lack of gyro, it'd be the best all around controller there is--great sticks, great rumble when using games that use the action triggers, and incredible hefty build feel

The Spro controller is great with a much better battery life than anything out, but it's lacking a headphone port (which is essential) and apes the One S controller something hefty.

XBox One > Pro Controller, by virtue of analog triggers.

I know Mario Kart doesn't use them, but man I don't think the Switch controller would be touched by any other basic controller out there if it had some good triggers.

DS4 like all PS controllers is garbage. I've got a Pro and am gonna have to get one of those adapters for my Elite controller.

As a long time hater of Playstation controllers, even I gotta admit the DS4 is a great controller (other than battery life).
