JonTron (youtuber) speaks against demographic "invasion" of America by nonwhites

I used to enjoy JonTron.

Now I kind of find it sad that a man with his level of accomplishment via entrepreneurism and the opportunities the USA has provided immigrants like him and his family is engaged in the classic "fuck you got mine" culture that seems to permeate a lot of people of influence and or money.

I don't even think it's "fuck you got mine", it's that people tend to massively overstate their own attributes as part of their success rather than incidental or background factors.

The irony of the tweet in the OP is that very often immigrants haven't been given a fair shake by the "founding stock" when they first come over here. It took years for the Germans, Scots, Irish, Italian, Lebanese, Vietnamese, et al to become part of the culture and their achievements appreciated. In some cases, it's still ongoing. As a nation of immigrants you could read our history as being "let's haze the new guys until we find out they're not so bad, and they'll join in on hazing the next guys off the boat."

I get being concerned about immigration changing your country's fundamental values, but mostly these sorts of arguments seem to boil down to racial theories.

And I loved how he had nothing to say to that. He was shut the fuck up.

Actually, it was the opposite. He just laughed those off like Destiny was too stupid to see the Bigger Picture. It was disgusting, really.

Every time that he blatantly was trying to turn the chat against Destinty was cringe-inducing. "You should work for CNN" "Are you trying to do that journalism thing to me? What's it called?" "You want to kill black people!"

What's even more cringey were the times that he actually agreed with Destiny and then went "but but".

It amazes me that people think things can "only sound" racist.

What makes him think that?

They were discussing the reasons behind black crime in poorer districts. JonTron refused to acknowledge context as a valid argument, so Destiny ended up saying "well, we need to know the context, or else... what? You want to kill all the black people?".

JonTron tried his goddamn best to turn it around on him.

I don't understand the "he's entitled to his opinion" bullshit. Like can we agree that its a non-starter as an opinion to be racist? It's not a valid side to take in any argument or debate, its just wrong.

I haven't been following him lately, but I really enjoyed his video's covering old videogames, plus I loved his silly, over the top humor.

Why you gotta do this yourself Jon?!

I won't be surprised if he later makes a video to justify his action by saying:

  • It was a social experiment ALL ALONG
  • It was a result of bi-polar disorder

Transphobia:

If that's just referring to the sign (can't click links right now), crass as it is, Papers Please actually involves turning down (potential - it's not clear) transexuals at the border. You even have confirm if their genitals match the gender on their ID. The game has you controlling a border officer in an oppressive regime, so you're doing a lot of bad things.

EDIT: Looked at your post again and noticed the quotes under. Still, I figure that point deserves to be clarified.

Damn, this kid is crazy stupid. I'm late to this whole thing though, are there people defending him?

Yes. The only reason this thread got to such a ridiculous size is because of:

"Guys, we should be tolerant of his opinions. Just because he has a different opinion (of the value of Arabs and Black people), it doesn't mean he's a bad person!"

"Both sides are equally guilty of this!"

Lol @people just realizing that the zero punctuation guy is a secret dirtbag just now.
Like where were you during Gamergate?

Playing video games of course! There's a lot of people that are willing to live in ignorance as long as they're happy in their little special bubble. For example:

This is unfortunate to see, I had no idea Jon was like this.

I think people that focus on video games should keep focusing on video games and leave the social commentary elsewhere.

Just watching Destiny and JonTron's conversation. At 8:34 you literally saw Destiny's brain explode from the stupidity of JonTron's rebuttal.

Y'know, while I was listening to JonTron in that Sargon stream, I certainly disagreed with him a lot, but I didn't think he came out that bad. Holy shit, did that discussion with Destiny put him in bad light though. I couldn't tell you how many times I found myself thinking: "What the fuck are you even talking about, Jon? How does this have anything to do with the subject?"

Pretty disgusting. Haven't been a fan of his content for the last few years but I've stayed subscribed, undoing that right after I post this.

As others have said the most shocking part is that someone as well-known as he's become over the years (that's generally avoided controversy) is suddenly content rattling off nonsense like this as if it isn't a big deal. He has to know that he's alienating an enormous part of his fanbase every time he says shit like this, I don't understand how that thought can cross his mind and he can keep doing it over and over. I guess as long as part of his fanbase keeps blindly supporting and defending him he doesn't see any reason to stop.

Jontron's meltdown should be put in the OP.

MAN Twitch's community is hot garbage. Skipped around a bit and heard three donation comments saying stuff akin to, "You don't get paid enough to debate retards," and, "JonTron is f'ing autistic." And the Destiny dude just laughed at them. I'd be banning myself some donators from entering my chat ever again.

What really bugs me though is that the comments were from people on the right side of the "debate" -- though there was no debate really, sounded more like JonTron just being made a fool of as it should be.

I don't want to see the stuff spouted from the ones on the wrong side. Ugh.

Of course, mostly on twitter and some who are going 'well regardless of his views his gaming videos are hilarious so Ill keep watching his channel.'

There were a couple in here but each argument got shutdown easily and quickly.

Most of his defenders are on Twitter. Most of them are super racist.
of course there is.

Yes. The only reason this thread got to such a ridiculous size is because of:

SMH. It's a crazy coincidence because some (extremely misguided) kid on this discord I frequent, brought JonTron up because he was being accused of being racist or whatever. Not much to debate anymore in that topic lol

The analogy most here got right.

He digged himself into a hole.

He's trying to dig himself out of it, unaware that he is digging himself deeper.

You wanna know what's the saddest thing? He will not blame himself when the dust is settled. He will blame the "SJWs" and "political correctness". But noooot himself, he was just a victim of the left...

I can already see it

I think at the end of the day, Jon is just really dumb more than anything. He is all those things, don't get me wrong but the biggest one is stupid or at least misinformed. I doubt he was raised to think this way. It was most likely learned and he is either too dumb or doesn't care enough to look for any sort of good rebuttal. It's like he was fed a bunch of bullshit and just accepted it as reality. He's like a child. It literally sounds like he heard of some isolated incident on the news or read some shit on the internet and just accepted it as a truth or as something he could generalize.

Awwww man. He is one of the few gaming YouTubers whose content I find enjoyable.

But yeah, not only will this keep me from enjoying his content, it just makes me not want to support him.

A shame. Thankfully there are still other gaming personalities that , as far as I know, aren't hypocritical racist idiots.

I'm surprised people haven't kept up on Yahtzee (Ben Croshaw). I mean the fedora didn't give it away? :p There might be more examples, but I barely follow him and remembered this stuff. He's not gone white nationalist and alt-right like Jontron has, so far...but he's definitely anti-feminist, anti-social justice, and a bit more conservative.

Not a big fan of diversity.
Just not a fan of social justice.
Transphobia.

Okay, yes, the fedora wearing is a big sign I suppose. But isn't that just for ZP to identify him in the videos? Does he actually still wear one in real life?

Aside from that it sounds like Yahtzee does want more diversity in games, but not to have it shoehorned in. At least that's the impression I got from the quotes you posted. I could be wrong. You even quoted him being sarcastic about men being "the real victims" and I thought that was a shot at MRA people. He was even making fun of climate deniers. I'm just really confused about him now I suppose.

If someone reads something on the Internet and accepts it as true, that's fine, I'll accept that as innocent.

But the vast amount of information he's given suggests that he's wading knee-deep in this stuff - probably not by accident - and he's shown hostility to having these ideas be questioned.

I don't think there's any reason to assume he's innocent. He isn't acting like a friendly person who just unfortunately happened to absorb some bad ideas, he's acting like a horrible person who is spouting horrible ideas because he has genuinely chosen to seek them out, absorb them, and spread them, even though he's aware that there are parties who are harmed by these ideas.

I notice in these threads that a lot of people like to post "this guy does consistently horrible things, but he's not a bad guy". Not sure if that's what you're thinking, but that's what it reminds me of. I don't know what that means though. If your actions are bad and your motives are bad, what's innocent about you?

I just can't fathom why this horrible turbo cunt has literally 2.6 million more subscribers than actual comedians mega64

Even if he wasn't a piece of shit how fucked is your sense of humor that makes you like him what the fuck

He makes lowest common denominator content with little to no substance that anyone can enjoy. You won't feel smart or dumber after watching his stuff.

Are you telling me he's going to be running for president in the future then?

Holy shit, this Destiny conversation is hard to listen to.

*Destiny makes great point*

JonTron: lol, come on man. I mean, come on.

Makes me want to bang my head against the wall.

Considering that the alt-right/neo Nazis/white supremacists cite "IRISH SLAVES!!!!!1!!" as a reason for why African Americans should stop complaining about being treated as chattel for 100 years of American history (and subhuman second class citizens for another 100+), you'd think that JonTron would have gotten his white supremacy talking points in order before claiming that the Irish weren't discriminated against.

I mean, narcissism is a thing in any field of entertainment. It's just way easier to get a in road to stardom on youtube than a star role in a film or a record deal.

Well, the second part of that sentence (the unbolded part) was "... but can't for some reason." "Some reason" in this case is probably that he's an unadjusted closeted-supremacist.
