Assassin's Creed Origins screenshot leaks, new details (AC4 team, Naval combat, more)

I'm excited for this.

But then again, I'm always excited to some degree when it comes to Assassin's Creed, regardless of how much of a chore I would eventually find it come halfway through the game. I realize that I'm part of the problem guys lol. :( As a major history buff who is partial to open-world games, it's just hard to resist. Add in decently animated parkour traversal and climbing mechanics - I'm all over that shit.

I'm looking forward to playing as a lady. I spent most of my Syndicate playthrough as Evie, and only played as the brother (what's his name again? lmao) when I was forced to.

Haha! Same here - I treat them as historical tourism, and haven't finished any of the main stories since Desmond's arc ended in AC3. Hearing that this one will be more focused on exploration rather than a linear story progression forced into an open world setting... that sounds amazing to me. Zelda set a high bar for that kind of "go anywhere in any order and still progress" design though, so hopefully they can follow suit.

Why do people love naval combat so much lol feels like I'm taking crazy pills. Gets super old in no time and controls are awful.

I am not a fan of the return of Naval combat. Don't get me wrong, i fucking loved AC4.. but Assassin's Creed is not a game about ships and sailing. They should just make a seprate series about Naval combat.

Assassin's Creed games should be different from one another, taking advantage of what new cultures they explore have to offer. IT just feels really weird. Large focus on ship combat does not belong in a game about stealthy assassinations, as a main stay. As a unique feature of that one game that was about pirates? Sure. As something they repeatedly cram into every game, it feels wrong.

It's like... imagine if tekken slowly became about bowling minigame and actual fighting became an afterthough. Sure, people liked that bowling mini-game, but that's not what Tekken is about... I am probably not making much sense

They better finally put jog on the goddamn analog stick ffs.

What? I feel like I am the one taking crazy now.

Naval Combat was so warmly received in III, IV and Rogue because the ships are extremely easy to control (they took some liberties like the speed at which they sail and the fact that you always have wind on your back) and the combat is very intuitive and simple so you can enter and engage into a fight very quickly.

The Legendary Ships on Black Flag and Rogue are the most intense battles and all of them required different tactics and the use of all the weapons of the ships (I am pretty sure a lot of people never used the Chained Shots or the Fire Barrels on normal gameplay) and the climate (using waves to protect yourself from a volley)

To be fair the combat in Assassin's Creed has always been an afterthought

What bothered me about naval combat was that it lacked even the most basic depth. But it was damn impressive as a proof of concept.

Just a few mechanical layers in there would make a huge difference.

God, no more naval combat. I was so happy when Unity was set in a city again with none of this seafaring bollocks.

There is no Naval combat, I think its just naval gameplay. Like sailing in the small boats. Maybe side activities like fishing, hunting crocs or harpooning like BF will be in.

The leaker on reddit confirmed that most of the 4chan leak was true (which claims there is no combat but its boats are just for transportation) and he never claimed that naval combat is in. People are just assuming that because BF team is working on this one.

Nah, this leak in the op is pretty bluntly saying that you can sail the Mediterranean, and that navel combat is in, based on their sources.

Considering that the screenshot is unrelated to the original leak, and also confirms the Origins tag, I think it's not far fetched to say that it's all confirmed. I'm assuming that there will be an open sea area like in AC3, while in the main hub you'll have the op boat.

Also 4chan said this, over a year ago.

I might be wrong. The original game included Greece, which you can travel to. But it was cut from the game due to scale issues. So the naval side is now a mystery to me. There are talks about making a trilogy of this same character, so they might explore Greece/Rome next.

We'll find out soon either way.

The Reddit guy said: 4chan leak was real but alot has changed since then. 4Chan leaker said: ">>322514608: It's not naval combat. It's just a means of navigation and some have interiors you can enter for quests."

The reddit guy also never talked about naval combat, or atleast i couldnt find his comments on it. The source of wwg claims there is naval combat. So yeah, maybe they added it in.

Yeah we will find it soon. I just feel, even if its in, it won't be as heavily featured as BF.

I haven't played an asscreed game since 3 what is even the plot anymore wasn't the world supposed to end or something? With Des becoming jesus? Did they completely abandon that?

Naval combat in ancient Egypt?

Hoping triremes will sink if they're not by the coast at the end of the day.

Yes, I know they're Greek, I was just struggling to come up with the explicit name of a 'very old boat'

Israelite?

Get up in the mornin', wantin' some stabbin'
So that Templars can be dead
Assaaaaaassin Israelite (Aaah!)

"Without giving too much away, a piece of Eden is used during the Exodus and the crossing of the Red Sea, playing into the whole overarching mission of the modern-day protagonist." Not main focus of the story though.

Al Mualim directly states the parting of the Red Sea was an illusion of the Apple of Eden.

Yes... Sucks, I know...

On topic: Was I the only one who didn't like 4? I thought Syndicate was such a great return to form, even if it's worst than 2 in almost every way, it's better than all the others (for me, at least).

Past dude's name is apparently "Shed" come on now lol. One leak mentioned his name was called "Bayek" That was a great name, take that over shed anyday lol

Bayek sounds like some drunk slav's surname I'd know. With a J instead of a Y, pronounced the same.

Oh look there's Bajek again getting hammered in front of the convince store so he can return the glass bottles.

JaseC

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
What pics are the leaker talking about?

The one in the OP (the newer one) and this one (the old one):

These all sound like refining gameplay mechanics, and also makes it sound like they really are trying to borrow a lot of stuff from The Witcher 3 (talent tree with limited number of skills active at a time, combat apparently similar to TW3, means of transport that you can partially customise...). I don't doubt this will be a good game, but I really hope they improve in the story department and give more focus on doing Assassin-y stuff instead of all the bullshit they just kept shoving in in previous installments. Managing Assassins in Brotherhood/Reveleations and ships in AC4 were a hit, but everything else was a total miss and detracted from the gameplay (tower defence in Revelations, Homestead managing and trade routes in 3, trade routes in 4, co-op in Unity, all the gang bullshit in Syndicate...).

At least they've got an interesting setting this time, last time we got something that you don't see often in popular media was Constantinople in Revelations.

This one stats there's no naval combat, only for travel like Witcher

I mean, it makes sense. Technology wasnt advanced enough to have mounted canons in ships in that timeframe. Naval battles using artillery exploded after the 1400's.

I'd be fine with that and utilising canoes to also travel through lakes and ponds. It would be neat.

Yeah, not sure how to feel about that. Obviously there's no cannons here, so maybe they felt like naval combat was lacking without them? I always loved the boarding part of naval combat though. But then with smaller ships, no huge galleons... maybe that would be underwhelming too. Seems hard to believe they'd axe the naval combat mechanics entirely while retaining sailing though.

Naval combat would basically have to be melee with boats, which is why the notion of ancient naval combat was so exciting.

Ramming headlong into enemies, snapping their oars with sideswipes, Greek fire, boarding, archers

It could be really cool and even more exciting than age of discovery-era naval battles

Hopefully not like carriages in other Assassin Creed games.

Another day, another Empire/Origins leak. I'm not sure if I believe this "leak" to be honest.

https://www.reddit.com/r/assassinscreed/comments/6bajht/new_4chan_leak_about_ac_origins/

As always, take it with huge grains of salt
We have a new Modern Day protagonist, he's male and mixed race. Already a trained Assassin and has a new team that helps him achieve his task, given by William himself. William, Rebecca, Shaun all make appearances.
MD is more like AC3's MD with bigger areas and more character interaction. The MD does more to highlight the fact that Assassins and Templars still exist and are having a big impact on the world.
100% here for this~
