Pretty sure I saw on Switch Reddit this scored 9/10 from Edge. Maybe that was fake though...

That score is real. 9/10 from Edge.
I am having more or less the same reaction as I did with The Witness.
Not much hype until like two days before the release when it skkyrockets and now I will probably buy the game ^_^'

The Witness is just a stupid game though. It's completely illogical in places until you're lucky enough to come across another puzzle that kinda explains how another one works. If you don't stumble across a puzzle that opens up what symbols mean and how other puzzles work then it's just illogical.

It's not illogical, and it's not the game's fault.

The point of this game is that it's completely logical.

Not illogical, just not understood at that time. You're basically learning the game's language. There's a logic to everything in The Witness. The game's puzzle are often categorized by area and mechanic, and then slowly start combining the mechanics as you explore further. Sure, one might see it as "stumbling" onto a solution, and thus stupid, but that kind of knowledge through exploration is a big part of that Myst-inspired genre. A gradually unfurling puzzle box whose mechancism become apparent as you learn more

Lol its not the games fault you dont have the capacity to work it out for yourself.

Then I guess its a good thing that game is designed well enough to allow you to drop any puzzle and come back to it later with a fresh set of eyes.

The game punishes stubborn players early on with an impossible puzzle right after the garden area. Its a literal middle finger to that type of thinking.

I've had the physical version for the Xbox One preordered for months and have been basically avoiding all of their developer talks about until I've got it in hand.

That's...how the game is built. You go to one area and get stuck on a puzzle, so you go to a different area and then come back later. It's purposely done so that you don't get stuck on one puzzle and just drop the game. There's always somewhere else you can go until you get the endgame. Once you master one type of puzzle, it gives you a better understanding of other types of puzzles in other sections that you were stumped on previously.

I understand that, but some puzzles are just not fun (especially the "tetris" blocks kind). Some of them were interesting. Another issue for me presronally is that the game really gave me a headache, which is a first for me. I think RiME being 3rd person would help that.

Am I weird for liking the warmer look of the Switch version more than the PS4 one?

I got a response from the RiME team who's doing an AMA on reddit about the accuracy of this picture:
Interesting comparison. We suspect that most of the color differences between the shots have more to do with video compression than anything. We would not necessarily call this comparison accurate.
We're currently reworking a lot of the content in the game to make it more appropriate for the Switch SKU. So far, we've managed to keep the visual impact to a minimum. RiME's unique art style has made it easier to make this possible, but it's still a big challenge for any development team.
Our goal is quality, and we have to walk the tight rope between performance and visuals. We think we have a path forward from here, and we're optimistic that players will love being able to take RiME with them when they're on the go.

That happened to a lot of people. I think they tried to update it to help avoid that, but by the time it came out, I was too far removed from the game. Maybe I'll go back someday.

Haven't followed this much since the Sony reveal - just when it popped up with rhe Switch pricing debacle.

Can anyone sum up why this game is more than a poor man's Ico for someone kind of ambivalent about it?

Metroid is just a stupid game though. There's a red door and you can't even open it until you get missiles later in the game. It's so illogical.

didn't find the information, does the game run at 60 fps on ps4? I kinda want the retail version, but 60 fps beats that, so if it's not on ps4, i'll take it on PC

It's mostly just different lighting. The supposed Switch screenshots seem to have more of a sunset lighting setup and the PS4 ones a midday setup. (Hence the shadows being in different places, the supposed Switch screens having more of an orange hue, etc.)

Just played for about an hour. Looking lovely and the music is great.

Framerate on the other hand... not really great. Especially when turning the game stutters or seems to skip frames. Microstutter in motion also noticeable. Hope there is a day-one patch.

Playing on PS4 Pro btw.

so no chance it's 60 fps on normal ps4 then?
