People hating on Pikmin. Smh

I don't hate Pikmin... but I wouldn't say I'm a fan of the franchise. I bought Pikmin on the GCN the week of release. It looked great, had an interesting concept... but I just couldn't connect with the gameplay. I'm not going to say it's a bad game, but I felt like it was too frustrating at times. I haven't played a Pikmin game since. But Pikmin 3 supposedly bombed, and we are now getting TWO more Pikmin games? Instead of reviving old franchises or pushing new ones, they are going back to the Pikmin well. F-Zero, Kid Icarus, and Metroid are dead while the Pikmin are dancing on their graves.

Since I haven't seen anyone talk about these

If you go to the Best Buy site and open the Splatoon 2 cover art in a new tab, and change the last two digits of the url, you can find these.

Looks like some place holder based on old rumor?

Really don't think he's teasing W102 or whatever.

I guess it's not my first pick, but Pikmin 3 was super good. Don't think the Pikmin team would make an F-Zero or a Kid Icarus either.

Actually, there is already a good Pikmin game, Pikmin 3. I would wish Nintendo would concentrate on a series that hasn't got a good entry for atleast 10 years...

Uhhh....wow. We've went a long way from Sin and Punishment 3 to Pikmin World. I'll place my bets that neither one will show up despite the latter having a bit more credibility.

$5 bucks Retro becomes the new Mario V.S. Donkey Kong studio.

I wouldn't say Kid Icarus is dead when it got an instalment on 3DS. That's hardly a dead franchise.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Pikmin world would be dope
Smash not that much

BTW seeing the new Dragon Ball fighting announced for everything but switch is sooooo bad for Switch third party support
I mean it is no destiny..it is a Japanese Bandai anime licensed 2.5d fighting game...
And switch will get the old port of the previous episode months later at full price

Situation is terribad

No, that's your usual hyper-ventilation / jumping to awful conclusions that gave you your reputation on this forum.
It seems that many of you here forgot how Japanese transitions to new consoles happen: they are slow and some kind of games take a while to go full speed on a brand new platform. Heck, we're talking about Bandai Namco, right? Well, a major game like Tales of Zestiria (mainline Tales of game) was released in Japan on January 22nd, 2015. And it was a PS3 exclusive. Was that a sign that Namco was not going to support PS4? Hello no, they were going to support the platform and they're certainly doing it even right now. Also, Bandai Namco has already games planned for the platform, presumably coming out before March 2018. Including a Taiko and a Tales of. Both important franchises for the company. We'll have to see what kind of Tales of we're talking about, but Namco has games planned for the platform and we should not start dooming because something is not released on it - it can happen at the early stage of a brand new system.

With Japanese third parties, my personal advice is to have patience. This is what most of you are lacking right now. Patience. As time goes by, provided hardware sales are still good / great and the software environment is healthy, you will see Japanese companies supporting the platform. PS4's Japanese initial support was unquestionably horrible, so much that even if we don't count Taiko and Fire Emblem Warriors (it's a 3rd party game in Japan), Switch's first year has already as much Japanese third party games as PS4 did in the same period. Again, history teaches us that Japanese companies are more prudent and less prone to support new platforms right from the get go, especially when their success is unproven.

So, again, be patient, and you'll see the games coming. If the current conditions stay like this, the platform is DESTINED to have support. Especially considering how, contrary to the 3DS, this is a console that is selling very well everywhere, not just in Japan.

Everyone, relax, take a deep breathe and don't go chicken little for every Japanese game not coming to the platform. Stop Aostia-ing / Oregano-ing. Peace.

Pikmin 3 was the game that made the better use of the gamepad, with the gamepad + wiimote/Nunchuk configuration. If Pikmin world is real (and I hope so), it could be the only game in which I regret the gamepad haha, or they need to change the game design.

Five years ago. Half a decade. Honestly I'm not a huge fan of Uprising, but it's definitely a game that could benefit from a remaster. The series as a whole has potential. I guess Smash Run was secretly Kid Icarus 4.

Though personally, I would rather see Nintendo focus on new IPs than trying to revive old ones. Splatoon and ARMS are far more exciting to me than a new F-Zero or Metroid. One could even consider ARMS a spiritual successor to Punch Out, and I think the hype around the game would be far less if it was just called Punch Out Switch. Franchises that aren't selling should just be regulated to crossovers or smaller digital only titles, unless they do some massive BotW-style overhaul (which could work with Metroid).

I'm going to say I disagree completely with this post. Obviously I can't disagree with your first few lines if you didn't like what you played of it, but I love Pikmin (having only played 3, admittedly, which is widely recognized as the best game in the series) so that's enough to show there's people who appreciate the franchise :p

Having said that, I'm going to say that *now* is a great time for a new Pikmin. We're at a perfect time in the Switch life to release experimental, not-super-popular games and have people be exposed to them and have them sell well. Look at Puyo Puyo, Disgaea, and even ARMS. Look at indies that wouldn't have sold that well for 3DS but are thriving in the Switch marketplace like Explosion Machine, or even the World of Goo/Human Resource Machine ports. People are starved for games, and the sales for these games have been reported as great, look at the Disgaea OT talking about it being out of stock and being filled with people new to the franchise as well.

If Nintendo is confident in Pikmin, and I know they are, pushing for it right now is a great strategy. They've got a 3DS spinoff game coming out with which they can cross-promote, a new Pikmin amiibo, and for many people who skipped on the first iterations Pikmin would almost be a "new franchise" in the vein of Splatoon and ARMS. That plus the lack of single player games would give it the push that it needs. Even the "Pikmin World" name and the reboot rumors point towards it being treated as a new thing. Doing that at a time when people are starved for quality single player games? Genius.

I'm not holding my breath to see it at E3, but I'm saying I think it would be a great idea. Also, your last line about F-Zero and Metroid and Icarus being dead while Pikmin games get made imply a false dilemma. Nintendo has more teams than the Pikmin team, and they could be working on all of those at the same time if they wanted. I assure you there's no one at Nintendo saying "Hmmm, what do you guys think, should we make a new Metroid or Pikmin?"

You people are crazy, open world Pikmin is goat material if mechanics are translated properly (and there's no reason to assume they'd fuck it up). We'll also get to play that with JoyCon, aka the perfect controllers for the series. Get hyped.

Someone should make a thread about there being 3 placeholders, maybe that's the amount of games revealed

I don't get why they have to release 1000 games of the same title/brand on the same year, and for many years only dust.

i have seen on the last years many kirby games on the same exact year
Now is pikmin time.

Then what?
Metroid??

YES PLEASE, METROID PLEASE

Well.. Pikmin 3 wasn't really selling like hot cakes either :p

I believe it sold only a little less than Prime 3, which was on a console that sold something like 8 times the amount of units as the console Pikmin 3 was on, with a (very likely) lower budget.

It's all about expectations. 1.5 million for a Pikmin game makes Nintendo happy. It's why they did a spin-off for 3DS and it's why Pikmin 4 is in the works for Switch.

That being said, I think we're getting a new Metroid game on Switch and I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see it this year.

Really taking things personally, aren't we? We're here to discuss Nintendo having a 25-30 minute conference in here. This stuff is pretty fair game in the discussion.

Everybody can have their own style, sure, but it's really annoying when it's arbitrarily different, and clearly less appealing to a lot of fans. We wouldn't have this thread if people weren't a bit upset.

You have done nothing but concerned trolling since your reply to my post. Your bullshit extrapolation of my thoughts, which was posted after I replied to you btw, shows you are looking for the worst.

Comparing Sony to Nintendo is fine but aren't you assuming that Sony that is going to surprise more because they said they would do less talking? They could just be showing more extended demos.

Just to say it again, because I feel like many other supposed "Pikmin haters" agree with me:

I don't hate Pikmin, nor would I not want to see another one. I'd be happy to get another Pikmin. I'd just be WAY happier to get a new entry from a ton of other Nintendo franchises first, ones that have been dormant for way longer. Metroid, F-Zero, a console Animal Crossing, etc.

Pikmin isn't really a franchise that the Switch needs right now IMO. If they want to keep knocking it out of the park and creating a desire for the system, I don't think Pikmin is the series that'll do that. I don't really think it's a series that casuals or lost Nintendo fans really give a shit about. Those are the people Nintendo are trying to attract right now. Pikmin is pretty fuckin' niche, and again, Pikmin 3 isn't that old. I'd take a port over a new one, knowing a port wouldn't eat up nearly as many resources.

Man... Nintendo-GAF used to be such a fun place to be a part of.

The usual suspects have been shitting up these threads for years now. It's amazing how big my block list has gotten.

Switch AC is coming and as much as everyone wants to pretend Metroid and Fzero didn't exactly set the world on fire either. They're about as niche as Pikmin.

Ok but the team that makes Pikmin wouldnt be making Metroid so why not both?

I think a Pikmin with good local multiplayer and some other quirky new modes would be great.

What they can't do is another crash landed collect parts-athon. Like definitely need to expand on the concept a little more and things like full co-op story mode and some more battle stuff on top of a different angle instead of crash landed. So more like 2 from that respects if memory serves.

How do you know? They have a pretty eclectic history of development according to wikipedia. New Super Mario Bros, Mario Maker, Yoshi's Touch and Go, etc. Based on that (and Pikmin 3), who knows.
