good that you have an "if" there, that's not the reasoning they give for not supporting crossplay, and we don't know that's true, considering more PS4 owners could decide to subscribe to PS+ so their can play their friends on other platforms for a game like Minecraft
Come on, nobody is buying the official response. It's a bullshit response and anyone with half a brain can see right through it. There's so many holes in that response that everyone can see it won't float. So once you rule out their official excuse as being the real reason, you need to look at what the possible real reasons are. Seems like a lot of people don't want to discuss that and would rather bury their head in the sand yell why should they care and that anyone who does want to discuss it is a corporate shill.
We know they actually are okay with cross play because they've been doing it for years with the PC. Even games recently released are cross play with the PC. We also know officially they've stated they would like cross play in the past when they were not the market leader. So what has changed since then? Well first off they are the market leader by a huge margin and second now Microsoft wants cross play with the Xbox One. Those are the two differentiating factors. I think it's reasonable to conclude that either one or even both of those are the reasons. I'd imagine it can't be the market leader alone because again they've allowed it. Do you disagree with that?
If you agree, then it comes down to why are those factors stopping them from agreeing? What is their motivation for giving game players the finger? The conclusion that you guys seem to be coming to is they are a company and the company is not your friend, well then if that's the case, it's financially motivated is it not? If it's financially motivated then they have to feel that such a move hurts them more than it benefits. It's a perfectly logical and reasonable conclusion.
If you disagree with my breakdown of all this, then why are they doing it? What's your theory? If your theory is it hurts them because more people could subscribe to PS+ because of Minecraft and cross play, what rational reason is Sony turning down that money then? Please, tell me what Sony's motivations are for blocking this if it's not financial?
I don't know about that, there's good profit in these bigger HD PS4's or they wouldn't exist, there are always people that don't want to swap and upgrade HDs themselves, a lot easier to just pay a premium for a bigger HD PS4
and I totally can imagine seeing you 6 months ago defending Sony's "business decision" and telling people that want external HD support to just sell their PS4 and get an xbox,
There is but there's also more cost to running too many SKUs, retailers don't care to have a ton of SKUs for a hardware platform, plus a bigger HDD SKU doesn't do someone good after they've already bought the system. They would have had to known well in advance that they were going to need it. Some do, but many don't. So allowing the person to upgrade their HDD after the fact, makes it easier on the user and why would they want to upgrade? Because they need more space for games. So again, there is a financial incentive to allow easier access to upgrade HDDs after the fact.
I'm not even saying for everyone to sell their PS4. I'm saying if you're so angry about it, and feel that passionately about it, and the company isn't listening to you, the best thing you can do is speak with your wallet. I'll advocate that for anyone who is unhappy with and angry with a company. I would also have said if they aren't implementing it, it's either a) not a high priority for them right now, or b) it's not worth their time. These things don't happen in a vacuum and companies don't do things that will negatively impact them just because. There are always calculated reasons why a company does the moves that they do whether it be short term or long term effects.
They're not your friend, so why are we expecting them to bend over backward to negatively impact themselves if they have nothing to gain and only to lose? I think you have to show them that they have more to lose than gain by this decision and one way is to stop rewarding them for their behavior and convince more people to do the same. Understanding their motivations doesn't mean you have to agree, support or that they are making the right decision but certainly understanding their decision is a benefit to help figure a way to get what you want.
