Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age announced for the West in 2018

But it doesn't mean that 3DS has no reason to be localyzed. It would also be cheaper than the remakes because they are already localyzing the PS4 version.
And "Twillight years"? 3DS just released a new SKU, and has plenty of games being localyzed this year and the next. If Atlus can locayze their games there's no excuse for SE.

That has nothing to do with 3DS hardware and both software sales being far away from peak years. I meant twilight years with purely in terms of its natural console lifecycle being in its last phase. It's past its peak and dying slowly. Also I actually agree that they should localize it too because it shouldn't be too much work as both have same script. I just originally had to reply when someone tries to equalize PS4 and 3DS markets because similar hardware sales.

if the PS4 version and the Switch version are the same is there a chance we see them release at the same time in the west? it's not like the Switch version would require any extra localization.

PS4 version is 100% sure to come to west.

Now the 3DS version is the big question... maybe they will choose to release only the Switch version.

The Switch version is also questionable since Dragon Quest Heroes on the Switch seems like a no go for the West.

They didn't wait to launch in Japan and I hope they do the same for the West.

FINALLY.

I don't expect the 3DS version but I really hope they at least do the Switch version as well as PS4. Also pls give voice acting and orchestral soundtrack.

What I'm saying is if the Switch version is released in Japan before localization is done, and content wise it's the same as the PS4 version, it would simply be a matter of porting over all the progress they've made on the PS4 version to the Switch version then whenever finished they'd release both.

Hmm, what are the chances the Switch version is a combination of both the 3ds and PS4 versions?

3DS when in portable mode and PS4 when docked? That would make up for it launching later imo.

I'll most likely get the PS4 version.

However, at the rate the Switch is growing, Square would be foolish to not have a Switch version on the way.

With the momentum it has, it's going to get harder pretending it's not a viable platform.

Awesome news.

But I really do hope we get all the versions, as I'd buy them all. I would be super bummed if I missed out on that awesome 3DS version, especially. And since the script should be the same, I really hope there's no reason they don't do it.

Quite a pleasant surprise.

As a DQVIII fan rather than a DQ fan (sorry Aeana), I am beyond hyped because the PS4 version looks to be in much the same vein.

If only game development were that simple.

Good news. So...Dragon Quest XI and Ni No Kuni 2 in 2018. Along with Monster Hunter World. And The Last of Us 2, God of War and Red Dead Redemption 2.

Woooo boy.

Still playimg DQ8 on the 3DS as my first DQ. Enjoying it. And from what I've seen on Twitch the PS4 version looks great.

Oh, if it's really that easy I definitely wouldn't mind.

Wondering if they'll add voice work like they did for the original DQ8 localisation.

I really don't know how they would expect this to do well with newcomers in the west if they didn't. VA is a bare minimum expectation these days for a big RPG, and I'll even go as far as to say that it's a given. Squenix would be seriously hurting the sales potential in the west without it.

PlayStation Europe just retweeted this so i guess its on the PS4 atleast.
Well realistically the PS4 version was always going to happen. It's the 3DS and Switch versions that were up in the air. I think the Switch will happen. Not sure about 3DS. It's kind of why I'm hoping the Switch gets the 3DS version of the game (or both).
