NBA 2K18 will run at 30FPS on Switch, footage released

So has anyone that bought the game to be able to clarify a few things?

First off, the developers managed to get the game down to (Required Space) 22.9GB which is less than the 25GB target they were aiming for which is good.

But then on the eShop page it asks:

Required for Use
Attention: a micro SD card with a free storage space of minimum 32GB is required to download this game.

It's most likely you need more than 22.9GB when installing everything which is why you can't do it on the internal memory since that's only 25.9GB big.

So, what I know to know is if it's still 22.9GB after installation?

Of course this doesn't tell us what the physical version is going to be like if it will have the same file size on game card.

Doing the same right now lol looks great. This is on handheld. It's blowing my mind.

I've been playing NBA 2K17 on my cell phone, but nothing compares to actual buttons and the vocal commentary isn't cut here.
This will be the first 2k I've actually owned. Ive always played on my cousins PS3 and PS4 every year since 2011 even though I have both those consoles. I'm over at his house enough to get my fix. But now were moving into our adult lives I've been itching for an NBA fix and having it portable finally pushed me over to dive in.

I think it was stated a page or so back that the game is about 23GB, but there may be a save file that is fairly large. Of course, with patches and the like, the game can eventually balloon over 23GB.

It looks worse than the 360 games to me in the videos posted..no clothes physics? Why did they sacrifice frame rate for?

Yeah, but this is just for the initial installation. It mentions that the game could require more space because of patches on another paragraph in fine print, not a warning.

That's why I just want to know what numbers are given, it's most likely that the game was too big for installation because it has to unpack things while it installs which is why an SD card is needed because the internal memory is insufficient in size.

No idea, but it's their first year, so maybe next year the cloth physics will be in. No idea why that got removed when that's even in the 360 version of 2k17. My guess is we'll see some comparisons of all versions at some point. It'll be interesting to see.

is the save file really 6GB large?

Then you need to get your eyes checked. This one looks much better, like I'm seriously surprised someone would even make such a claim.

Maybe one of the guys who has the game in this thread can provide an update on the final install size after launching the game and doing whatever patches needed to be done.

I'm basing it on YouTube videos, but the models and lighting don't look up to par and the textures on the ads look super low res

This is great for casuals

But after playing a few matches, no way can I play this serious. It feels so off at 30fps and it's not a looker, it's a great port but not if you own any other system. It feels a tad sluggish, there is a judder during any game in the playground and it's either frame pacing or it's sitting just under 30, but something isn't right. Hoping DF do a video on it

Oh man..I'll still be picking this up for portable play but this sounds disappointing.

It will be fine for portable play, it's still a great achievement and looks much better than the PS3/360 era of models.

This is their first go at scaling their engine, I think come next year it will look like this at 60fps.

Don't be disappointed this is definitely the version I would bring to a party and pull those joy cons off to enjoy some good playing

Doesn't really look like a step up from the 360 version, more of a side grade. It has nicer lighting, seems to be running at a higher resolution, and has slightly better crowd models, but it comes at the expense of 60fps and cloth physics, while the ads are pretty low res. Maybe next year they'll be able to fix that.

Says 22.9GB on my sdcard and 3GB to the internal storage totaling 26GB so far on version 1.02 and latest update installed

Anyone mentioning the 360 version....please tell me you looked at YouTube to remember how it looked. Start with 2K6 and go up as far as you like. 2k6 provides tons of laughs though.

Edit: Cloth physics will probably come next year.

Yeah I look forward to being able to just take off the joy-cons and play a game with someone on the go. I love that.

Can't wait to try this game out. Almost time :)

Downloading now! If you don't see it search for "NBA"

Edit* it's being shown on recent releases now.

Also, I forgot this is going to take a while to download...I'm so use to quick downloads on the switch.

Fuuuuck what do I do? Buy it now and let it eat up half of my memory card, or wait for the physical? I prefer physical media--resell value. But then again, how often do you resell a sports game for a decent amount? After the year is up, it's worthless. And then there's the money. Dragonball is coming out next week. Fuck.
But Oct 17th is like a month away. What do I do?

Nintendo really needs to do a better job at listing upcoming titles on the e-shop. It feels like 3 out of 4 titles just drop without ever being listed on the "Coming soon" page.

I have been debating the same thing. Plus I haven't paid $60 for a new game since gcu was invented. But you have to look at your personal situation. In my case, I'll fly at least 4 times for work between now and the physical release. Sure I'll save $10 and have a trade value later, but that's 8 flights that I wasn't able to enjoy the game. Easy choice this time.

Hmmm. I guess my rationale could be: if I buy now, I won't be juggling games when Mario Odyssey comes out...

i was dumb enough to get the switch and x1 version, you can 1000% tell the difference in graphics and fluidity.
BUT switch is mobile... and its playable docked and undocked, just dont play it after being use to the x1/ps4 version.

That's why I didn't even DL the Prelude thing lol. I knew it would happen.

Fuck. I just bought a $60 digital game. Sorry Dragonball :(
Maybe I'll just put you on my credit card

Can someone make an OT for the actual game that just dropped.. because it's kinda annoying having the discussion tied to the Switch version

Let folks know in the morning.. Just cleared out all the memory on my switch and have it downloading. No micro SD. It says save files need 5 gigs but I doubt that. They aren't that big on Xbox.

Guessing I'll need the SD card for patches and what have you, but curious to see if I can run the full game as is without it.

I'm this close to pulling the trigger on this purely because I want to support 3rd parties on the Switch, but I think I wanna wait for the Digital Foundry breakdown before I do so.
