The Wii U Speculation Thread V: The Final Frontier

So, this question might have been asked and answered, but I don't remember seeing it, so here goes.

IdeaMan said that developers have been pushing Xbox360++ graphics on the Wii U, and this running 720p@30fps+ on main screen (how much + though?), and secondary view on the controller with Xbox360++ graphics running 480p@30fps+ (how much + though?). Now IF the secondary view would ONLY be a inventory-screen, instead of a Xbox360++ view in 480p@30fps+.

How much better would developers be able to push it on the main screen with Xbox360++ graphics, 720p@60fps, 1080p@30fps?

It's true for the main screen, but for the padlet, i don't know the extent of the complexity of the scene rendered (i don't think it will be as intricate as what is displayed on the TV), 30 fps max is a given though (for the DRC of course huh !)

For your scenario, i already touched upon that, from what i know, in this specific context (v4 dev kit, third-parties, "ports", etc.) but i would say even now considering the slight increase that bring the mass production dev kits, i don't think a light usage of the padlet will free enough resources to switch to 1080p.

Oh I know it isn't that simple but the Wii audience breakdown is overwhelmingly more casual than core. Make no mistake about that.

And don't talk about nintendo franchises. They didn't help during the 64 days and they didn't help the GCN. You need help sometimes.

That's the assumption. The problem with that assumption is that the people in that audience probably didn't buy 8 games for the system.

Let's agree to disagree. You're not seeing my point of view and I'm not seeing yours. We will see how things turn out in a few years.

I see your point of view, I just think you are ignoring a bunch of important factors to get to your point of view. And, when I try to point out said factors, you act like I'm part of a defense force and continue to ignore said factors.

My internet was just being dumb as hell. GIFs wouldn't load at all. But everything else did! Fixed it though. I was wondering why I kept seeing "blank" posts.

EDIT: lol Why is that GIF Izick posted extremely pixelated?

It's for the very specific case that i explained many times. With first-party magic, tailored for the Wii U engines, further optimizations of SDK, clever use of all the hardware features of the dev kits (and possibly the newest ones), and tons of parameters that could change the tide, the frame of this particular context i'm often referring to, we could see games running at 1080p on the system.

But for launch window "ports" from third-parties, even with a light use of the padlet, the chances seems really small (as it wasn't the case 3 months ago for 2 titles from different companies, and the overall performance of the games, both using the DRC in a not-lazy way, at 720p, didn't hint to a possible switch to 1080p considering the increase in resolution/pixels, if they just put a 2D inventory on the subscreen).

10 pages to catch-up

Thanks, was mostly interested in how long their dev cycles are. With Tenis Open done, wondering if they'd have anything for E3.

If your tidbit is exciting and followed by an Ideatime, I will bake photoshop you a Superman cake for your member-day on the 21st.

Nooo.
I wouldn't expect anything before 2014 from them (and that will likely be a 3DS RPG).

Will the Wii U get get media blowout the Wii got? You couldn't turn on the news or read a magzine without something about it. Hopefully Ninty's advertising department delivers again.

My bad then, got the distinct impression that Xbox360++ graphics on both TV/Tablet @ 30fps++ was what developers benchmarked from your post.
So no 1080p games for a long while at Xbox360++ graphics (if ever), bummer, guess there will be some 1080p from developers not pushing as much though.

I still think that was partly due to the novelty and uniqueness of the control scheme of it. A tablet is definitely interesting, but not revolutionary like the Wiimote was at the time. That said, I'm sure there will still be a ton of buzz over it.

I don't like the wording here. 30FPS max would actually be absolutely terrible since it would mean that the average is below 30FPS. It's not a big deal, put I'd prefer you say "locked at 30FPS".

Sorry about the OCD. :p

The way its presented and the focus will be different.
You likely won't see the Wii U in the health watch section of your local news station (like you would the Wii) and I doubt we'll see it on a major day time talk show.
We'll see it under tech and things to watch and such. More focus on the younger crowd. Some plugs on Conan maybe.

bp is a girl ?

Hey ladyyyyy /whistle

Geeze, are you French guys ever not horny?

Didn't notice that, but I hope that's what he meant.

My aunt & uncle run a Mom & Pop store, "The Gamecube Hut", and sold 80k WiiU within minutes of opening.

Well, it will not have to compete for launch hype with anyone else. That hasn't happened since the N64, I believe. They sure won that fight with the PS3 with Wii, but got a little buried by the Xbox hype during the Gamecube launch. That has me wondering if Sony and Microsoft are leery about launching at the same time.

Keep posting guys. The more we post the more IdeaMan has to read.

Let me discuss my idea of adapting War & Peace into a Wii U game. It would be just as long as the book, and would keep every single little detail, let me start from the beginning...

Watch IdeaMan become a member a week before E3 and make the thread "Wii U Tablet has clickable analog sticks".

At least then he would confirm they were analog sticks rather than circle pads. That's still very, very slightly new info that would make some happy.

There's no way I'm catching up on the last 10 pages of this like IdeaMan. I'll just go with RMC's summary and call it read.

Edit: Actually, did ShockingAlberto say something about Ace Attorney?

Wii U has clickable cliques.

He's strongly hinting at a PW vs L localization.

I'm strictly talking about the two cases of the Wii U third-parties projects i know.

The content rendered on the DRC was at roughly 30 fps, considering it was also the same framerate for the TV. I doubt they will have a 30fps+ view on the main display then 60fps of another view on the padlet. V4 dev kit context & all, so the situation has changed since, but i think the framerate is a given, they will use the increased resources tapped from 5+ sources of optimizations/changes to make the title shinier.

I know bp is a he, it was a pathetic attempt (again) to be funny (against him) :p
When and if i move in the US, i'll need some comedy courses
