Seinfeld was funny. George Constanza was the best.
But ironically, I hated Curb. Constanza was a lovable loser. Larry David is just an annoying asshole.

He's clearly trolling. He thinks it's overrated but he wants to make as controversial a topic as possible in order to convince himself that he's a "free-thinker man," and "totally not in line with popular opinion." He's clearly a teenager who kept hearing about Seinfeld and kept thinking, "Well it can't be that great if it's not new and modern like Curb your Enthusiasm. I'll watch a couple of episodes so I can say I've watched it but it probably sucks." *proceeds to watch Curb Your Enthusiasm and laugh hysterically*

I didn't like the show much in the 90s when I was in High School, but I started to really like it once I got into college and watched it from the beginning. It became one of my favorite sitcoms of all time. Next to Married with Children and Fresh Prince of Bel-AIr.

Seinfeld is my favourite comedy show of all time, close to IASIP and Arrested Development, so I completely disagree with the OP.
Friends has its moments but overall its got nothing on Seinfeld. I also disagree with anyone who says Seinfeld hasn't aged well. I put the occasional episode on and most of the social commentary is still relevant and still funny. I'm not a even a huge fan of Jerry's standup comedy (it works okay for establishing themes) but the show itself is pure gold.
There simply hasn't been a sitcom as consistently funny as Seinfeld since. I'd put Curb and Arrested Development in the same class of awesome though.

I read the thread and said goddamn. Not because of the OP, but because of all the hateful shit thrown his way because he has a different opinion than some people. It says more about the people all but calling him an idiot for not liking Seinfeld than it does for him not liking it.
I don't mind people having opinions or not liking Seinfeld.....but Friends? Really? Friends is better than Seinfeld? When people say things like this they deserve to be cursed and beaten down.
Its people like this that are the reason shows like 'Big Bang Theory' do well while shows like Community get no ratings at get canned. I'd say we aren't throwing enough shit his way.

Back when it was still legal to play online poker - at least on Poker Stars, in the US I would occasionally run into Jason Alexander on the middle to high stakes Sit and Go tournaments. One time, the entire table got into this thing where we only spoke in George Contanza one liners, it was awesome.

Funny, I have the exact opposite opinion.
Yes and I don't even hate Friends. Opinions are like assholes I guess. Its just not in the same class as Seinfeld. I really think writing, characters and social commentary are all much better in Seinfeld. Just so many more memorable episodes too.
I've always felt a bit sorry for Jason Alexander. He's never going to be able to escape George Costanza which doesn't seem fair considering George is actually Larry David.

And as far as laying Community's lack of ratings at his feet, I'd say times change, and with it the general publics tastes. After all, the show that Korey doesn't get and is getting piled on for not liking had amazing ratings back in the day, right?
Totally understandable. Curb can be truly painful to watch at times. You spend episode after episode thinking to yourself "dont do it larry, larry just stop".
Its not as fun to watch as Seinfeld but its still really rewarding if you can get into it. It also seems to get better as it goes on. Personally I've found season 7 and 8 to be the most enjoyable yet.
Definitely try to give season 7 of curb a go because the whole story arc for that season is based around them making/filming a Seinfeld reunion show.
I don't think Friends is a comedy for stupid people. It was a decent show. I really shouldn't compare it to something like Big Bang Theory.
Also agree with you that making a comparison with Community doesn't make sense. That show will never be the ratings juggernaut that Seinfeld and Friends were. Just lump me in the boat with all the other people who are frustrated that shows like BBT, How I Met Your Mother, Two and a Half Men rate well while shows like Arrested Development and Community struggle and get canned before their time.

speaking of malcolm in the middle.. has anyone seen ABC's disgusting rip-off called "the-middle" ? I caught the into of the show on TV the other night and couldn't believe my eyes. How can someone get away with something that blatant? I can't find the intro on Youtube.

Personally, I don't find Seinfeld to be anywhere near the best show going around, but I still enjoy it, and it was the best of a generally bad bunch of 90s sitcoms. I personally think that was a lacklustre era for comedies. There's the Simpsons which was incredibly consistent throughout the 90s, then some cult classics like Larry Sanders, the Royle Family, the Day Today but it's fairly slim pickings in my view.
The Middle is terrible but it feels nothing like Malcolm in the Middle to me. I see them as very different shows with a similar title. I spose the middle does have that beady-eyed little rip off of dewy though.

I could understand someone not liking Seinfeld, but there's no way it can hold the title of unfunniest sitcom ever when Dharma and Greg, Big Bang Theory, Friends, Married With Children, Joey, King of Queens, 2 and a Half Men, Baby Talk, The Cavemen (seriously, this show), My Mother the Car, House of Payne, and the atrocity that was AfterMASH exist.
