Halo |OT8| A Salt on the Control Room

Curious what are you guys playing up until Halo 4? Thinking of making a switch to Halo 3 until then.

I gave CS:Go a shot last night and thoroughly enjoyed it (lag aside), so that may be my game of choice until Halo 4. I would definitely like to play Halo 3 though, as long as I am in a full party. Can't stand going in MM by myself.

A little bit of Reach, some H3. Mainly SC2 for the first time playing through the ladder, played a little bit of TF2, and just playing a bunch of different random games.

Broadening my horizons until Nov with H4 coming out I'm going to be solely FPS from October until I get bored of H4 lol.

I really enjoyed my first night of Counter Strike - if they fix the issue with getting into games with a party, I'll likely play that. If not - back and forth between Reach and MW3.

I'm about to go through some single player games: El Shaddai, Binary Domain, Prince of Persia (2008) and Darksiders. Will play Reach on and off too.

There is no Heroic. Legendary or GTFO.

I always play Heroic first because "it's the way to play" and is the perfectly tuned Halo experience, as described by the developers. And then when I'm done I have another excuse to play the game again and still get a different and harder experience.

And I understand why people would play Legendary first too.

Fallout NV, Forza, Gears 3. Dishonoured when it comes out too.

Might lay off Reach + 3, don't want to burn myself out on Halo.

Edit: Oh yeah, Sleeping Dogs. Need to pick that up at some point.

That'd be a great technical term, but it's a mouthful to say in-game. I'm thinking "Blain Gun" or "Dong Rifle". "Dong Gun" has too many repetitive sounds and "Blain Rifle" doesn't really roll off the tongue.

Blain Rainer/Reigner or the Long Dong.

Just look at the size of that thing...

Blain Rifle sounds just fine to me. Sounds a lot like Beam Rifle, as a matter of fact.

Light rifles as the legendary shield. Hmmmm.

That is a butt fuckin ugly legendary symbol. When the Halo series actually wraps up, I'm getting the Halo CE legendary symbol tattooed on me.... assuming it doesn't go off the rails and become not-good before the end.

I'll be playing Reach, some XBLA titles, and a game I like to call, Don't Let My Job Kill Me.

That last one is going to suck me in pretty hard.

Darksiders 2. I'm close to halfway through it (beat 5 of 11 dungeons) and it's damn fun if you like the 3d Zelda games but don't like 15 hour tutorials, shitty graphics, and waggle controls.

I was always under the assumption that Blainer (the sniper) was derived from Brainer.

As in a weapon which is used to Brain (headshot) somebody.

eg. To get Brained.

So I went through Reach SP and MP as well as ODST in the past month or so. I was going to pick up Halo 3 again but I've played the title to death.

How well does Halo 2 run on the 360? I don't have a working OG Xbox anymore and my main (Ha!) PC doesn't have Vista. Thanks Halo GAF.

Getting excited too btw, I'm reading Glasslands for the first time and I've still got Cryptum to go through.

The important thing is that dongblainer will quite likely get inducted into the competitive gamers lexicon.

Lol, Damn skippy. Same here, maybe we can co-op that one... :p

I'm going to try to catch up on some of these games that have just been sitting around nearly untouched/opened: Crysis 2, Red Faction: Armageddon, MGS2 HD & MGS:pW HD, iNFAMOUS, Deadlight, Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet, Renegade Ops, Syndicate... Sheesh.

It also doesn't help that Forza Horizon and AC3 come out on October 23 and 30, respectively.

Yea it was, I'll probably be on late tonight. Maybe we can try customs with some other HaloGAFers.

ps: CS:GO comes with a 45 minute trial to try, so if you are bored give it a go guys(no pun intended).

It runs like shit on the 360. Obviously multiplayer on Live no longer works. The biggest problem is that it has this ghosting issue that makes objects "stick" to the screen and you can see outlines of weapons or horizons on the screen for hours before it's replaced by another one. You can exit out to the main menu and go back in to fix it but that requires sitting through a loading screen to fix the issue. Despite these issues, I've played through the game 3 or 4 times on the 360. Really a pain in the ass. The PC version is great if you can get Vista or Windows 7.

I liked CS:GO but only played one game. I went like 17 and 5 and that was literally my first game of CS ever never even touched it on PC. I had no idea what I was doing lol, I'll assume the Xbox casual market hit CS pretty hard cause they were bad. I noticed like input lag or something the aiming felt really weird. I'd like to get used to it and learn how to play but I like to do that with a team so I wanna play with people here.

The casual market did hit it really hard. It's pretty great. It's still kinda weird for me to play though, since all my CS muscle memory is for mouse+keyboard, so I keep trying to right click to zoom or QQ (equivalent of YY-ing)

Hell it even works in Windows 8 too assuming you make a few tweaks. Without a doubt don't ruin those memories of Halo 2 by playing the emulated version on 360. Just don't.

Do we have to spoiler tag achievements now?

For some people yes. There are people that uptight that they don't even want to know the achievements.

There's no aim assist just aim acceleration from what I'm understanding.

Whoever invented aim acceleration is a horrible horrible man.

Yep. I got all the achievements in Halo 2 PC, and it was fun. Great going back to that game, even though the campaign is probably my least favorite. (not because of the story, or the joke ending, but because the game was unfinished in almost every aspect of the campaign.)

I think it's aim acceleration combined with no magnetism. I maxed my sensitivity out and played like that for most the night, then backed it down a little towards the end. I notice the slow start on the stick less when sensitivity is high.

He should be caned.

Why isn't Halo 2 available to purchase on Steam?
I feel like that crowd would eat it up...

Honestly just because MS doesn't give a shit. They haven't exactly treated the PC Halo fans well sadly. That's the same reason we've never seen any of the games post Halo 2 on PC either. Most have given up after the way 2 was handled and after a couple years of 3 never seeing light of day on pc.

They really need to hand it off to the equiv of Gearbox again--someone who'd do right by a port. I don't expect 343i to actually worry about developing it themselves.

Between now and Nov 6 I'm planning on finishing BioShock 2, Shadow Complex, and Zelda: Minish Cap, and then playing some mix of the following:
- Pokemon TGC (the Gameboy game)
- Bulletstorm
- Wario Land 2 and 3
- Red Dead Redemption

Plus I want to finally learn how to play Carcassone. And I might get Pokemon BW2.

I think I'm gonna go back to the Splinter Cell games for a while, maybe that can get me back in the mood to try Deus Ex yet again before 4.

Wow- I haven't thought about that movie in a decade or more. Great piece of 80's B-horror!
I can see by your avatar that you're a person of discerning tastes. :)

Shadow Complex was SO much fun.

I have my doubts about that.

I was longing for CE on Steam since I don't know where my CD or CD key are anymore. I figured being Microsoft published would've stopped that from being possible, but it seems like they put Age of Empires 3 on Steam just this year, so who knows. Maybe one day.

Damn, i had forgotten how good Halo 3 encounter desing and the missions were. The story sucked, because all story was in Halo 2, 3 was just wrapping things up. But that gameplay, so good.
Feels really good just to push onward, eliminate all opposition very quickly. Reach promotes slow gameplay way too much.

Probably Borderlands 2 and right before Halo 4 Asscreed3. Maybe warfighter, but I doubt it.

Mostly I'll be busy finishing up this last semester of college.

By the way, am I the only one besides Bungie who's seen Rawhead Rex?

lol - I don't recall ever seeing that shot of a Brute before... this is what it immediately made me think of:

I take no credit for any words besides the smack talk "eat a bag of dicks" which I invented back in H2. I also have no fucking way to prove this.
Hrm. Dick's Hamburgers has been around for more than 50 years, and I've heard the expression 'eat a bag of Dicks' since at LEAST the early 90s - probably earlier. (I remember snickering the first time I heard it, in fact.)

lol - and apparently a punk band used the phrase as their name in 2001. :)
