Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster - PS3/Vita, 2013 [Amazon: $40, Trailer in OP]

I just think it would be better to wait a few years an get a super high quality remake. I'm not saying I'm not happy about the remake though I'm just saying I don't particularly like the trend of hq releases lately.

Releasing these in 2020 would be pointless, they would still look terrible. By current gen standards you can get away with a simple up-res of a good looking PS2 game, stuff like mgs3, gow2 or ffx still holds up by just throwing hd resolution at it. In 2020 when even the PS4 will be obsolete? Good luck selling that to anyone. It would have be a full remake built from the ground up. You mention mgs1, it would still look horrible in hd, it's just too old and so will PS2 games be in the timeframe you mentioned.

It's coming and many people want it. I am replaying both games on the PS2 and while they don't look that bad using component cables, the wired controller kinda sucks.

Just as important: possibly having the option to toggle off inverted camera controls. Seriously, Japan, what the fuck? Who uses left to turn right?

If they do XII HD, I want more of the Hunt and Marks! After I beat that legendary dragon, what was there left to do...=/

Didn't the International version have more mob hunts? That's probably the version we'll get if it ever happens. Just like with FFX.

This!

Went back for another playthrough recently, and it took forever to get adjusted.

Good because after each Hunt, I found myself doing just...one...more...Hunt. Then the cycle just reset itself.

Excited. Never played X or X-2 but that song in the trailer is iconic. Will be buying this, not sure if I should pre-order though :B

Yet another reason PCSX2 is the best way to play PS2 games if your PC can handle it: mapping the right stick backwards for early Japanese games with 3D cameras (as well as swapping X and O if you're playing imports).

Ok, so they can't use the existing VO's?
Sorry, I didn't know they needed to record everything again.
I didn't say that. But Final Fantasy X-2 International + Last Mission is missing Japanese voices for some new lines in the main game, and English voices for the entirety of the Last Mission segment. So if they don't record new voices...

I think if they ever do XII, they'd actually go back and rework it. Regardless of it's objective quality, it was certainly a game that ran off the tracks from it's intent, I wouldn't be surprised to see it actively restored. It also doesn't have a companion game to get it a retail release as a HD Remaster.

I still regret never finishing FFXII. ;_;

It was a long game, even as Final Fantasies go. I remember my first playthrough took about 110 hours. Such a huge world, with something around every corner. I loved how much of it was open for exploration even at the very beginning. Small wonder FFXIII's forty hours of hallways were so ill-received.

Really, it ran THAT long? The reason why I probably stopped was because I was 15 or so when it came out and back then I stopped games for odd reasons. Kinda hoping they HD re-release it so I can get the nerve to play this game, people tell me it's a loved game by them.

Actually... if I had to choose between the two, I'd take corridors in the heartbeat. Don't get me wrong, the world of FF12 was big and nice, but game itself is just so boring, except for first 20-25 hours. You can have a big world, but when it's meaningless, what's the point in having it or exploring it? FF13 only gets better after 20-25 hours, but it stays more or less fun till the end.
As Final Fantasies go I'll take X - X-2 pair before 12-13 one, for sure. If we go deeper, I'd take 6-7 even more gladly, only... not in the form of FF5 remake, no.

Is X2 good I never played cause it looked super girly

It is super girly. There's pop music, bright colors, girl power themes, pretty boy faction leaders and you change jobs by magical girl transformation sequence. It also has some of the most enjoyable FF gameplay, period. (imo of course)

They'll come, don't worry.

Can't wait. I was actually starting the FFV (gba) but they've done FF1-4 remake so 5 (I'm hoping soon) would be next so I'm not sure if I should play through it. I could pause and complete 2 first. BUT.. whenever X/X-2 comes out. I'm all over that. I want to know the release date. Sometime this year please!

If you're referring to the iOS remake, then of course no! I mean, I like the updated graphical appeal; the character icon during dialogues look awesome! The only issue I have are the character 'sprites.' It doesn't have that FF feel.

Just wait on the FF5 playthrough; you'll probably have two versions to try before 2014 is up.

I posted this in the FF5 thread, but it seems to have died so just for clarity:

The FF4 phone sprites looked pretty flat back then, too.

People are used to the PSP remake sprites, which are quite nice and detailed. But all this SKY IS FALLING, S-E IS DEAD TO ME over FF5's phone sprites is sort of unnecessary because they'll inevitably port it again to vita or whatever with a minor sprite facelift.

They did it with FF3's ports; the IOS and PSP versions have slightly sharper graphics than the DS. They did it with FF4's ports, each version getting better sprite art. Assuming Square-Enix doesn't suddenly change their CEO and strategy in the next few months, they'll do the same with FF5's port.

It's too bad there's no clear winner with the voice tracks. Tidus seems so much better in Japanese, but other characters like Lulu and Auron are better in English. Mostly Auron, who sounds ridiculous in Japanese.

I don't think that really makes much sense. A lot of the "FFXII is an incomplete game" stuff is just internet talk. Hardcore fans who followed the game know about Matsuno quitting the project, and hence it is easy to deflect any flaw in the game at the "Matsuno didn't finish 100% of the game" angle.

But if you actually follow the post-release interviews and opinions shared by the people who worked on the game, there's nothing to indicate that they don't feel they shipped a completed product. There's nothing particularly unfinished or derailed about the actual game itself. A lot of the game feels like the tone is inconsistent to me, but that's a subjective element, and also something which isn't that uncommon in any entertainment product.

I don't feel there is anyone at Square Enix who feels particularly invested enough in FFXII to "rework" it in any meaningful way. Ito was the only one who was interested in working on the International Version, and his focus was largely on tweaking the game mechanics. Matsuno has indicated that he has no reason to ever return to Square Enix or revisit FFXII. And Kawazu didn't seem to particularly enjoy his role as producer on FFXII and the Ivalice Alliance after Matsuno's departure either.

Let's not forget that FFXII is largely extremely well regarded by the press and fans as it is, so this isn't some broken game where there are specific things which should be fixed. I don't think the fanbase can even agree on what sort of "fixes" would be good for FFXII as it is, other than the sentiment that it could have been better if Matsuno executed his vision to the end. That unfortunately, will never happen.

I don't like how remake of FF5 looks at all, and I usually don't have problems with graphics of any FF games. Character design kinda kills it. I'm so afraid they'll do this to FF6, seeing as SE promised all FF games on iOS.
PSP remakes are OK, DS ones were not very nice, 3D wasn't the way to go, but still better than FF5 one.
Well at least FFX-X-2 look nice!

I've seen what they did with FF3 and I think it's amazing. Sadly, I wish the PSP port had a hardcopy. I'm just afraid to buy it from the PSN store and have the game go on sale (which I doubt). I really love the art style and character design for the game.
I can agree that the complaints over FF5's sprites are unnecessary, it could be that I've been spoiled by the constant improved sprites from FF1 to FF2 to FF4.

Super excited for these. FFX is my favorite in the series along with 9 and X-2 is ridiculously fun (if too easy). Did the international version have any sort of rebalancing?

The trailer is on the NA site now, nothing new at all. Exact one we already saw, and no date either.

It was a pretty crappy trailer overall, but this is probably what annoyed me the most. I was hoping they would narrow down the release date, maybe which month, or at the least which season (Summer, Fall, etc).

But since it wasn’t narrowed down, makes me think we won’t see any info on release until E3, and will probably won’t be until late this year (was hoping for early Fall).

The fact that we are yet to see a screenshot of FFX-2 makes me think that it will be a winter release. I wish it would come sooner but I'm really just happy that we should get it this year
