Major Nelson/MS issues an official statement regarding Used Games on XBox One

You have access to these corporate shills, right?

Ask some hard hitting fucking questions and keep asking until you get something that's a real, honest answer. Do us and you (journos) a favour.

I think you are underestimating just how many times the press has asked about this stuff. This is their response.

lol maybe MS got a phonecall from a certain videogame chain today. Or maybe the internet going apeshit over this set them rethink their policies. Whatever it is we will find out sooner or later.

If the information about used games is incomplete and inaccurate I wonder whose fault that is...

Major Nelson 3 days ago said:
We know there is some confusion around used games on Xbox One and wanted to provide a bit of clarification on exactly what we’ve confirmed today. While there have been many potential scenarios discussed, today we have only confirmed that we designed Xbox One to enable our customers to trade in and resell games at retail.

Beyond that, we have not confirmed any specific scenarios.

Another piece of clarification around playing games at a friend’s house – should you choose to play your game at your friend’s house, there is no fee to play that game while you are signed in to your profile.

If they don't know now, and didn't at the time of the conference, they shouldn't have said anything. This is entirely their own fault for not having a clear message coming into their own event when they've been asked about this for the past 16 months.

Why can't people just wait and hear what they have to say at E3. This angry mob mentality is growing old fast in here. Obviously they'll have answers during E3

I can't wait to see the comments on that post. But I would be shocked if they didn't turn commenting off...

Edit: oh, this is going to be good. 78 comments in less than an hour. And there are already people defending them!

"We are still trying to balance between screwing our customers and managing the backlash over this week conference, please wait."

'still several possible scenarios' were the words of the day here on french vg websites. The PR machine must be overheating like 300K Live servers by now.

"You're wrong, but we're not going to tell you what's right. Please stop speculating"

Just gonna make people speculate more. They need to come out and tell us EXACTLY how it will work. They should have done this on Tuesday.

Like I said in the other thread.

Even if M$ does allow used games on their system, the proprietary nature of their design will mean that used trade-values will be virtually worthless.

You think trade values suck now? Just wait till M$ and the publishers take another huge cut.

Then you aint gonna get crap!

Unless I can deactivate my license and get a new product key that I can independently sell to whoever I want, their solution is no good. What I presume is that they're essentially setting up a monopoly on used games, similar to the way they have a monopoly on digital games. If you want to buy, sell, or trade then you pay what Microsoft tells you.

I think the ultimate downside to this is less about being able to trade in games, and more about NOT being able to buy used games. I very rarely trade in stuff, but I love buying cheap used items when Gamestop has a decent sale. Not to mention it's a great way to find out of print titles.

JUST ANSWER THE FUCKING QUESTION!

GODDAMMIT!

FUCK
SHIT
BALLS
ASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
fuck...

dang

I give up.

This convoluted nonsense sucked all of the air out of the X1 and Microsoft knows it. Yet they still can't bring themselves to explain what the deal really is.

That statement completely ignores the issue of lending games discs to friends/family to play them under their own profile.

So it's our fault M$ is not giving answers and is backtracking blatant easy questions? People have a right to be upset at this stuff, they should be upset, and M$ has a bad PR team if it is taking them this long to provide concrete answers.

Don´t worry folks, once the information about their policies in processed in the cloud, they will receive it back and give it to us.

Who are we kidding? This is an absolute clusterfuck.

"Please understand.

We must distract you with our E3 press conference. GAMES, GAMES, GAMES! LOOK AT THIS GAME! LOOK AT THAT GAME! XBOX ONE! THE INFINITE POWER OF THE CLOUD!

Let's forget about our used and resale policy, okay? Please?"

Not even the same, sonys event was months ago and they didnt have five different people saying five different things. They fucked up and its pretty clear there is going to be a fee involved.

Who cares when the event was? At this point in time we have no clear answers from either company.

Why can't you take off the fanboy glasses and see that Microsoft has been going around and around with their statements regarding used games. They've put out contradictory statements and continue to keep quiet and say wait, when clearly an honest statement will clear up this whole mess.

They were the ones who talked about it, and introduced the questions being asked. I mean is it really not obvious why Sony isnt getting the same flak?

they've known for months since the reaction those edge rumours that people care about this stuff a lot. it's just weird that they haven't at least got a consistent line.

"Retailers will be free to charge whatever they wish for pre-owned Xbox One games, but both Microsoft and publishers will take a percentage cut of every sale."

Still means it will drive the price up on the game.... means used resellers need to sell the game(s) for 15-20% more than they have to make a equivalent profit. Don't see used prices being the same as they are now....

So, nothing new then - everything exactly as negative as before.

We know you can trade/resell games into some arcane system that Microsoft is going to set up, and if you're a business that buys/sells those games you have to go through MS and pay publishers a fee (a cost surely passed on the consumers as well, naturally).

And we also know that this new system effectively kills lending, borrowing and renting, and there is once every 24 hour internet verification to use games.

So, thanks for clarifying that everything still sucks Microsoft.

You have really crystallized the shittiness here. Well done sir.

I don't get why they bothered. Until they're ready to clarify, which they'll do according to their own schedule, they're just providing more for people to speculate about.

So why aren't they saying what the actual policy is?

Either:

-They don't have it defined yet
-They want to wait so Sony has less time to adjust
-They won't tell us till much closer to the the system launch

Reminds me of playing those JRPGs on the DS where NPCS would respond to my questions with "..."

And my lil dude would respond with a water droplet icon.
