Gamers will see a difference on Day One

No shit. That kind of power difference is closer to the PS2 vs Xbox than the 360 vs PS3.

The PS4 is a powerhouse, the Xbox one is both.

That said I am still getting an Xbox One for Forza Halo and Gears.

not targeting specifically you but I really wish people would stop with thinking that MS is this all powerfull Mafia don that rules over the gameindustry and dictates what everyone can or can't do .

Its beyond silly.

Well they were the only ones this gen who said that they will not allow a game on their platform if it's of lower quality than on other systems (PC excluded obviously).

I don't think 3rd party publishers would want to risk their relationships with MS.

They don't have that leeway anymore. Start of a new console generation generally means a fresh start. Go ahead try to pull that move Microsoft.

There was definitely a visual difference at E3. I just hope multiplatform games take the differences into consideration. We did see a good amount of demos on PS4 so maybe that bodes well.

Really? Can you give an example of a game? I am genuinely interested.

EDIT: Nevermind - see the update.

I hope this is true, I been waiting for this day since I first heard MS going all online and other stupid shit. Cant wait to see PS beats the shit out of Crapbox.

goooo gooo PS4!

Wow, interesting times ahead.

Anyway, it's fucked up that this is even news. Games SHOULD look and perform better on PS4 and I'll be pissed if there not a visible difference.

an yet we have multiplat games like FF13 that clearly shows the xbox 360 to be run worse then the PS3 version

The same recently happened with metro last light

MS did nothing.

one other thing to considder /

IF the PS4 version of COD is vissualy better then the X1 Do you really expect MS to say :You cannot release this game on our console?

MS might as well shoot themselves through the head if they do that.

"An anonymous developers tells us that Call of Duty Ghosts looks better on the PS4." Gee, I wonder which developer it was.

But in all seriousness, I'm glad the extra power of the PS4 is being put to use.

Not this shit again.

MS isn't Don Corleone. Especially after E3.

I doubt MS had to do much to enforce that during the current gen though, since it probably didn't warrant the effort to try to hard to optimize for the PS3 hardware. This time it should be much easier to optimize for PS4's strengths so we're about to find out if MS's policy really has any teeth.

Im sure it will be so negligable as to be barely noticeable, it wont be like wii vs 360 if that's what they're implying

Seriously doubt that. As a PS3 owner this generation from the beginning I can definitely say we got the short end of the stick. Even to this day the 360 is getting better versions of their games. In fact PS3 owners are wondering if the next GTA will even be on par or close to the 360 version.

A lot of GAF has a revisionist history saying that most PS3 games are on par with 360 versions of the same game. I say otherwise. Our version usually have lower texture resolution, lack of AA, lower framerates, more screentearing, and lower resolution. The differences were night and day.

The gap between PS3 and 360 were much smaller too.

If true, MS is screwed. Rightly or wrongly, the better of two game versions will receive the higher metacritic scores as well...which influences consumer purchasing behavior.

Thats a misunderstanding, i believe MS stipulates that games must have feature parity, nothing about the performance.

Is it really that surprising? Last gen multiplats on Xbox looked better than they did in the PS2. This was also with the Xbox having a far lower install base that the PS2.

Can't wait for DF face-offs

They will probably not be so interesting if PS4 has a big advantage

The fun was in the little details when the systems were about equal, now this is not happening since PS4 seems to be ahead by a lot in every category (RAM-GPU etc)

The puzzling part is that is also 100$ cheaper

Microsoft are in no position to turn down big games from major publishers.

It was feature parity and they didn't enforce it with the major publishers. Bioshock Infinite's Move control scheme being a recent example.

The Xbone's APU seems to be more difficult to produce, thanks to the ESRAM. And then there is, of course, the costs for R&D and production of...

… which is an impressive piece of technology, both hardware and software wise. To bad, that I don't care for it.

With technology so similar between Xbox One and PS4, isn't it safe to assume PS4 ports won't require contortions to take advantage of the hardware?

Yes. A large part of the reason the PS4 will have a graphical advantage is due to the architecture. Unlike the PS3, developers on PS4 won't have to jump through hoops to make visually stunning games.

It's safe to assume that most - if not all - multi-platform games will show a graphical advantage on PS4. Better anti-aliasing, higher quality shadows, more particles on screen etc.

Xbox only has five gbs of ram for games right, while ps has 7 gbs of ram for games.that's got to be hurting multi platform games.

I think the difference will be greater than 40% because GDDR5 RAM versus custom memory pool. Even the theoretical speeds of Microsofts memory pales in comparison to GDDR5. It's going to choke games at 1080p. With GDDR5 developers won't have to do anything special to maximize it. Tools used for years will just work.

Is it even possible to fuck up worse than Microsoft?
Nintendo fucked up pretty badly, but this is a new dimension of stupid.

Nintendo still has smash, mario kart, cheaper system and Reggie (fuck miyamoto). The future at least looks to put them in the 2nd position for a while.

Yeah, compared to Microsoft, Nintendo isn't doing too bad.
Microsoft still has the better games though, I'd say. If their DRM and pricing weren't so mindbogglingly stupid, Microsoft would be in a better position than Nintendo.

I know it's brought up as a joke, but it surely isn't the graphics that's supposed to be impressive about Titanfall, it even looks downright old at times. It looks like an exciting game to play, not to look at.

Exactly. It looked "fun to play" to me but graphically--at certain points--I felt it looked looked like a late, current-gen game.

What? Are you serious? Silent Hill 3 faces have been surpassed years ago.

Haha, I mean in terms of mindshare.

SH3guy's been the go-to image for "faces have to be this good to rate" for years.

BeautifulEyesOldMan seems a contender to last for a while.

It's only if the 3rd party devs want to put in the extra time and effort. At this point, I'm not really seeing why they would want to as it wouldn't translate as a positive for them fiscally.

actually it's about 45% more powerful APU wise but it gets a little bit more powerful when you add the fact that the PS4 has faster Ram & a second chip for some of the things that the Xbox One is going to be using it's SoC for.

It won't even come down to extra time and effort. The systems are directly comparable, so the same game will simply just run better on PS4.

This is the exact same thing we heard before with 360 and PS3 and that simply wasn't the case. Most PS3 games ran worse than their 360 counterpart and some still do.

That was do to a significant architectural difference between the systems. The 360 was far easier to develop on.

This is no longer the case, since both the Xbox One and the PS4 have almost identical architectures. While devs can potentially do some neat things with the ESRAM on the Xbox One, that's probably not something you'll see in multiplatform games.

Funny because they seem to have a better outlook on the gaming industry than the people who call themselves gaming Journalists. Thats just my opinion though I'm sure you have examples to the contrary.

I never understood this. Why should they cower to the hardware when it should be the other way around. Without the games no one would buy the system and if people really go full force towards ps4 next gen than gimping the system with the greater install base will become stupid and counter productive.

i dunno about 40% (how do you even estimate these things?), but if not at launch, i'd expect it not too long after. the sony exclusives in particular stand to look a great deal better, from what we're reading.

MS didn't mandate 360 games being technically on par with PS3, they mandated equal content, i.e. no PS3 version can have bonus stuff that isn't comparable to bonus stuff the 360 version gets.

Not that people paid attention anyway.
