More like losing everything that made it a piece of shit. People did not want any part of where they were going, and they clearly have seen evidence of that.

Because "people" means everyone. The only that personally bothered me about Xbone was the disrespect exclusion of rental services. Now I won't buy the shit because it's not much better than a 360 and certainly isn't on par with PS4.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Well Microsoft said the cloud made XBONE like what 40 times faster? If that's even half true then XBONE packs in more power than PS6 without a cloud.

Could you tell us how much MS paid you for saying this? Thanks.

So a MS PR person said this in a private email to someone? Which she didnt know was going to be put on the biggest videogame forum in the world? If so how come MS isnt screaming this from the rooftops since they know a lot of us do NOT want Kinect?

$399 kinectless version would put me on team xbox for now. Or they could really kick sony in the nuts and drop the price while keeping the kinect.

I think MS knows how important it is to be the cheaper console on the market. At least, I'd hope so, considering the past two console generations they participated in.

Well, it'd still be $100 more. And if they removed Kinect from the bundle and charged $399, you'd still be paying the same amount for for much less hardware performance. That being said, graphics aren't everything and it is ultimately about the games. But if you're looking for the better multiplatform versions of games, the money right now is on the PS4 in providing that.

What he said. ^

The Kinect is a gimmick until developers start making fun core games that utilize the Kinect in an intuitive and unobtrusive way. Basically, it shouldn't feel like it's getting in the way of gameplay which from my experience it does.

That being said, this brings up a pretty big issue. Why should a developer pour money into developing a Kinect gameplay experience when not everyone has/wants/will-use a Kinect? Look at Titanfall. It has no single player because, hey, why waste money on that when most people care about and spend their time in multiplayer? (I wanted singleplayer, but oh well)

Ultimately, even if the Kinect remains bundled with the Xbox One it'll still be a gimmick. Multiplatform games will spend money developing good Kinect integration? Developers are going to pour time and money (two of the same thing, really) into a gameplay experience most users won't ever wants to experience? They're already worried about costs, right? Profits aren't big enough. That was the whole reason for the Xbox One DRM scheme, wasn't it?

lol this is like PS3 launch except it isnt the launch so Microsoft is lucky they have months to fix all the bullshit unlike Sony. they know the launch is important to get that install base that forces friends of friends and other friends to hop on board.

Yeah, all MS have to do is put a Band Aid on it and all is well...

Wtf...what would be next 8GB DDR5? lol

Looks like MS has changed the whole business model ... XBOX 180 indeed

I don't think they banked on the negative press translating to getting whopped in actual pre-order sales. Many, even on this forum, claimed that the uproar was simply from a vocal minority of core gamers and would not impact actual sales figures or demand, well, they were well and truly wrong.

Honestly it sets a fantastic precedent that these companies can't just walk all over us in every way. Even though we had to get to that precedent by being introduced to the worst console in gaming history, Microsoft salvaged the impending disaster and might be able to function next-gen.

I, however, think I'm sitting out til late in next-gen for the Xbox One. Not sure how late but I'm definitely waiting a price drop or two, maybe til the end of the gen when I'm sure nothing will be re-implemented.

This is my stance as well.

I don't think it does...

Just a large enough group to make them change course.

That fucking console is losing everything that made it unique. Holy shit!
Yeah, I share everyone's dislike of the online requirements that were initially going to be part of One, but at this point it's just a less powerful PS4 at a higher price point, and people are jubilant about that. :/

This isn't a rumor!

Rumor's are not bad info given from PR people. It's insider scoopz by people who have been right time and again.

This is a story from an Examiner contributor, from a guy who asked a PR rep if they needed Kinect for Xbox One.

this should be in the OP for the sake of clarity. Damn

"People" means enough people to make it a bad idea to go to market with those features. They wouldn't have changed anything if the majority of people agreed with what you wanted.

This is hilariously insane!!

Now, Microsoft is removing one features at a time and i've wondered if they'll keep the name "Xbox One" since it's all in one machine which is not anymore?

So this is how the cycle goes.

Bad news about xbone - haha idiots PS4 all the way

rumor of bad news being removed - MS won shut it down!! CANT WAIT DAY ONE

Bad news about xbone - haha idiots I wanted a PS4 all along.

rumor of bad news being removed - LOLZ NEXT GEN IS OURS WE WON

meanwhile PS4 is taking unlimited pre-orders.

Next gen is off to a great start.

Maybe they keep the $499/Kinect bundle through launch to soak the early adopters and because production is soft; but as soon as demand drops they have an unofficial price cut in the form of a Kinect-free bundle at $399. I could see this.

How does the division's leaders explain to their stock holders and higher level execs that their plan that they've been working on for years can just be thrown out?

Wonder how the devs of kinect only games feel...there games are being sent to die.

5 years of planning a drm digital kinect tv tv sports future gone in 72hours, abandoned...so now what? Launch a machine with no clear direction "here, its a game box go play".

Joke.

Struggling to believe this one.

I would imagine the DRM stuff was easier to back out of, considering it was money that wasn't exactly spent yet. They've already invested so much into Kinect, how can they afford to drop it as a mandatory function of the console?

Also, if they do, what exactly is the vision of Xbox One? Granted, their initial vision was caked in BS, but, at least it was *something*. Now what? TV? Cloud? Is that all that's left to battle the PS4?

I did not say everyone, bud. But it sure as hell was the majority that was unhappy with what they were doing. Else they would not have changed a damn thing.

This is either a bad attempt at Astroladding or the dumbest post in the history of GAF.

Making it possible to run the Xbox without Kinect attached is a no-brainer. They already have privacy controls to disable an attached Kinect, anyway.

This practically meaningless feature (that's already available in software) would do wonders to shut up the tinfoil hat brigade.

But they really need to keep Kinect in the box. It's still part of the Xbox One and what differentiates it from the PS4.

This is incredibly stupid considering how much lengths they're going through to integrate the thing into their OS.

They'd be smart to just price match the PS4.

The price and value of the PS4 is too much for the XBO to match, MS will have to take a huge hit to price match, and removing Kinect to price match is pointless if the features are built into the OS, no point is removing it now.

If they do share holders will be crying for Balmer's head. All they had to do was get rid of DRM. With that out the way now just hold on to the $499 price tag until production allows you to drop, then do so. Make a profit and sacrifice market share is in their best interest.

I doubt this would be leaked by someone using gmail as their work(?) email and released by a random PR rep. Who knows, I'll believe when someone reputable responds.
