famousmortimer: Xbox One OS and Xbox Live issues bouncing about as we approach launch

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
This is not surprising. Considering MS track record as a company, they had way more fails than wins. 360 and XBox 1 kinda were wins, but I guess that series broke now. For example, I am owning a surface tablet and while the OS has a lot of potential and neat ideas, it ultimately fails because of thousands of little bugs and things that are just now well thought out.

This sentence right here is why I dislike the name of the new system. It took me a good 5 seconds to figure out you were talking about the original Xbox and not the Xbox One.

What the hell is going on? I just came online and founds out X1 and PS4 having OS/Online problems?

I have been in video games world since the old atari as a gamer. I've Never encountered so much negativity/ problems and BS around a console launch.

I have also played with this old bad boy as a kid :D

This is kind of concerning to me.

Negative news is one thing, the people who fuel the fire are another.
Do people not see that it's the same handful of people who constantly babysit these negative xbox threads... Food for thought, Just sayin...

The X1 OS will be fixed IF there are issues, maybe not a launch, but they will be fixed. That's guaranteed... The PS4 has next to no issues, so i'm not seeing why you would even cancel that, but whatever.

I think you let this place get to you a little to much... Enjoy these systems man, don't let a handful of people that count pixels tell you what's fun or not.
It's alright my man.

Senjutsu is here. My backup has arrived.

He's about to ready to throw down and bring the law to all these emo leakers and fanboys. I am waiting for further posts from him to restore my faith now.

since when?

I was talking about people who buy and don't find out these problems are there until they are playing at home(if the problems are there). Or can you return opened videogames in the US? I'm a little confused, you can't return open video game stuff in the UK without a lot of hassle.

this thread is running fast, very difficult to keep up, but please someone verify me on these:

A) XBONE NETWORK IS ONLINE, YET STILL SEMI-FUNCTIONAL AND BUGGY

B) PS4 NETWORK IS ....STILL OFFLINE

are the above correct?
because if they are, I think I have better things to do than to worry about the present state of xbone live....

It just hasn't been switched on for retail boxes. There is no evidence of ANY problems. Meaningless false equivalency. Stop spreading this shit.

Swift summed up everything quite well in this post. You can thank him.

I don't think CBOAT is posting again, not about that esram info and "myriad of technical issues" pm he sent bish. He said to to wait till launch.

Yeah I figured CBOAT would refrain from posting for a while. Post too much and your credibility drops (and you run higher risk of being caught), hence why Matt is now perceived above CBOAT whereas before they were level.

GAF cred is like power levels from DBZ.

So let's say this is true...will this require patching in one place, or will every game need patches?

Is this a problem with MS's library, or with how games are talking to its API? Or both?

If it's a problem on the game side only, how are games getting through certification? Just letting them through on the promise of patching?

We'll see if this is still an issue on launch day. While it's disconcerting, scary things can be happening up until the last minute.

Yep, your post was where I saw this rumour..

You say that right after saying "PS4 has no games"! I get the feeling that you are making fun of me as well. :'(

In any case, at least you also feel that there is a much bigger storm on the horizon! I'm not alone!

Smart decision, if it doesn't live up to your standards then you can always return it if you keep it unopened. and of course if it turns out great, you won't miss your spot in the pre order queue.

Exactly! I do enjoy reading about these situations and inside baseball stuff, but we, as consumers, do have some bit of control over our wants and purchases. I would recommend fellow GAF members, who question should, or shouldn't I?, to hold onto the product and see if the situation is unfolding to their liking. I'm sure there will be plenty of info available if people question their purchase.

Should be in the OP!

And this makes even more sense now (from a few days ago):

A few days ago Sessler, Gies, and Mitch Dyer from IGN were posting error codes in frustration. Then one of them would reply with something like "heh".

Then Sessler posted last night about being very frustrated, and Dyer replied suggesting he had "given up".

If we put that together, it's possible one of the consoles is having OS issues, causing game breaking consequences, which would be very irritating when trying to review a game.

Of course I could be totally wrong, just throwing in my 2 cents.

I wanted to dominate the living room. Then I took an ESRAM in the knee.
So let's say this is true...will this require patching in one place, or will every game need patches?

Seems like every game will need a patch. Apparently the game-infrastructure integration pattern is shit.

It already sounds like PS4 will have a huge day 1 update to me... with everyone updating at the same time and their track record of PSN not exactly being the best... could be a nightmare on day 1 even worse than WiiU's day 1 patch. I don't have the same concerns about xbox one's day 1 patch, but could be the same scenario.

300MB at least isnt as vague as '15-20 minutes' that MS have stated about their own patch.

I'd bet on XB1's day 1 patch being a worse experience. It's drm locked. If for some reason the Sony servers go down for 1 hour, half a day, a week, you can actually.... play the games still. XBL goes down for a few hours on launch day , shit storm.

All of it.

Depends on the nature of the issue.

When the PSN was down, one of our games was due for cert. Sony's internal devnet was down alongside the public one. There was literally no way for us to test the code I was working on. None.

As consolation, Sony said that they would cert the game as is, ignoring any PSN issues, and when the PSN comes back up, they'd test the patch for free, along with some other benefits.

So basically, the title shipped as it was, fairly stable, but had some major major PSN bugs that had to get fixed, so it did ship broken. (It also didn't help the dedicated servers for it were outsourced to a skeezy company and a shitty mess, too)

if 3rd parties are having to apply patches to fix this after shipping they will not be happy, Publishers have a schedule to keep so that we can all buy our DLC on time.

Glad I'm not a day 1 adapter for either system. Will be very interesting to see how things play out for both companies this holiday season.

I'm debating about adding that into my summary here

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?p=87786946#post87786946

But it is less a leak and more a connection that may or may not be relevant

wow! you are right, swiftdeath, thank you for the summary.

You're welcome :)

Trying to help those popping in for the first time

Basic functionality is in pre-patch. You can download the patch while playing games if the 300 MB update happens to take awhile due to the massive amount of people downloading it at once.

i dont know, i read it in his thread.

can some of the insiders please verify what i wrote in bold?
PS4 has teething problems like most big device launches. Nothing for you to concern yourself over. I'm sure it won't be all perfect right from launch as they'll have to get stuff in order but you won't have any major hiccups. I have this little black box sitting across the room from me. It's telling me to listen to my what my heart is telling me so I am telling you what my heart is saying right now.

My brain though is saying don't buy a PS4 or Xbox One at launch. One has no games, the other is probably part of an Al-Qaeda plot. And forget the Wii U, forever.

Viv, I may take the piss out of 95% of GAF, but that was me being serious with you.

Eh, at this point in time i just hope both consoles burn to the ground at launch. Between all the bullshit, the nda's, the PR dick waving....if both companies end up eating crow maybe we'll get a more mature stance nextt ime round with more transparency.

Right now all I can seem to be hearing about is manufacturers running round like school kids in a playground trying to slap one another around with insults and all sorts of rhetoric and bullshit with industry journalists trying to do all the PR damage control.

Maybe both companies should pick their stance, stop watching one another going tit for tat in little media skirmishes and just get all their own shit sorted before pointing fingers.

Industry is a fucking parody of professional work places.

Going in the PS4 news section Vern :)

Yeah I just called you vern #Dealwithit

Think it's missing that other jeff comment?

Been debating about adding that one as he goes onto clarify his stance. I think Jeff implied XBL was rough but not sure

I hope this is all fixed by q1 next year. This seems to be when the UAE gets the xbox anyway. Ps4 launches here Nov 22 so I hope there are minimal issues on the ps network as well.

All true but none of that sways me one way or the other. Do the games work and can I take them online, that's all I care about.

That is very worrying, Jeff is usually optimistic and tells people to chill out and wait.

Sony seemed proud to demo off their OS on stage and at several events, with MS it all looks baked together. For all the flack the management at MS has gotten over the past few months, which is well deserved may i add, i feel bad for the people in the trenches there, imagine the sheer stress right now, trying to iron all this crap and get it work.

I have been on GAF for a looong time (lurker before reg) and i know the way this thread is going on...

There is definitely some big megaton coming it is just matter of day or two maybe max week but there will be asston that will overshadow everything else. All food and hints are there and people wait for something to spark that bomb.

My guess:

- Xbone devs are crunching like mad to fix problems created by 180 and them having production issues even before that (with software). If those problems won't be fixed they will delay launch because they won't launch product in that state if they want to sell that to customers who will use that to watch tv or use Skype on conferences.

Hints for that are all over the place.

That would classify as megasston.

wow. This thread has gone to really in my opinion off limits places ... family members .. character questions ... emotional responses to personal things in life .... its just a console guys ... im all for leaks and open discussions .... and i havent taken the time to read thru this whole tread just skimmed thru the posts of the regular insiders and some others ... but maybe mods should close this thread if thats where this whole things is going ...

EDIT if those are one off posts and the thread still has healthy discussions its good ... but if its getting derailed on those ends ... we all should just stop ... not a good place to go towards imo.
