Uncharted (PS4) announced, developed by protozoans and Druckmann's evil karma

Fact of the matter is, nobody wanted more Uncharted.

Naughty Dog formed two teams because the primary team was tired of Uncharted and people were about to leave the company

Most Uncharted fans got tired of the series after the third game

Space IP = do want

Uncharted = do not want

I think a lot more people want Uncharted than you seem to think.

A LOT MORE.

And we know that Santa Monica and Guerrilla are working on new IP.

Exactly! I mean yesterday Yoshida said bunch of them wanted to do new things so wouldn't be surprised to see even more new IPs from them

Wow, a car game, a critical bomb, and a non-risky indie game.

So much creativity, experimentation and risk!

ugh what exactly is your problem here? You said no New IP. I proved you wrong and we are just kicking off the gen. If your problem is no new IP in genre you like then that's a different issue.

That car game is in the genre that biggest Playstation exclusive IP is in..but it's taking an arcade racer approach with a focus on team play and scenery. The game looks fantastic to boot.

Knack is a family game..and I think it will sell just fine. The game had two people working on it for a long time fyi. it's not supposed ot be a big title. And here you are adding a new dimension to your whining about new IPs, Now you want new IPs that will get critical acclaim? No one will know what would happen with a new IP till it comes out. That's part of the risk. One asking for more new IPs shouldn't have such an attitude

Resogun is one of the best looking games for the launch for both systems. Seriously the game looks absolute bonkers. Indie games are games. A good game is a good game. New IP is a new IP. And yet again you add another condition to your whining here saying you want a new IP that's not by an indie dev.

Good observation. Since ND has a thing for using famous explorers Vasco da Gama might fit the picture somehow in this game given the locations as you mentioned

Thanks! Those were the things that I immediately noticed when the I first watched the teaser video.

I think it's nice to have this kind of discussion. Even if it's in the middle of 400 people quoting SniperHunter to say how wrong he is ._.

I'm OK with the same game director as U3 drving U4. The guy probably learnt from U3's development. If mistakes were made then, he won't repeat them. I'm optimistic.

And I liked U3. It was not as good as U2 but it was still a very good game.

I hope we get to control two different characters during two different eras. Mix up some of the gunplay with a different kind of gameplay.

Really excited for this game!

They have 2 teams, why not make another Uncharted, hopefully the other Team is on a New IP, then once uncharted is done and new ip, Last of US 2 (different chars if needed)

Oh you absolutely can rationalize its existence a thousand different ways. I'm just not excited to play it if it's just the same ol' thing as the last three but prettier and with more cutscenes.

My response is pretty much "whoopty frigging doo, what a waste of time and talent."

Really? Because Uncharted is one of the few franchises actually trying to push the bar of what the medium does. I'll take Uncharted over the assembly-line shooters that last gen became known for.

Unfortunately game companies do what they want to do and not what you want them to do. Uncharted sells 6-7 million, that is amazing for an exclusive platform game.

You already got The Last of Us, now it's time for my Uncharted.

seems like uncharted but with a totally different spin, keep the brand name for sales, do something new and interesting for the series to keep it fresh, I'm in, if it is set during this time period I am 100% in,
I don't doubt naughty dog for a second. Also, if that map in the teaser is anything to go by, Madagascar is a stunning environment to have even part of the game set

Sully was a shady guy before Drake. I wouldn't be surprised if he has some dark secret that he doesn't want Drake to uncover because it could destroy their relationship.
True. And Uncharted 3 never did go into much detail about Sully and Marlowe's relationship, but it certainly was shady, as you put it.

Jesus, people's standards are low. I don't have any problem with somebody liking the series, but what the hell have they done to advance the medium in Uncharted? They do what they set out to do very well, but what they set out to do is make an incredibly safe and conservative game that looks really pretty.

:(

Couldn't one argue that getting consumers on board a new platform would be more enticing with new experiences, and not the same we've seen the last ~10 years?

Absolutely, but a huge team as Naughty Don needs to balance risk even more so in the current industry climate. We are all now inebriated with the newness of this generation but I bet that the suits are all holding their breath for a few months or even years to understand the viability of this whole model of business.

I loved 2 and 3. I enjoyed 1.

This is one of the main reasons I will still probably break down at some point and pick up a PS4. I hope it's good and can't wait to see more.

Erm, Uncharted has pretty much revolutionised the action adventure industry, for better or for worse. So many games now replicate or follow Uncharted's formula, that is, with the whole interactive cut scene set piece gameplay thrill moments etc. Hell, playing the newer Assassin's Creed games, Tomb Raider and so on, elements of them seem ripped straight from Uncharted lol.

These posts are some of the most depressing I've ever read on GAF.

Then you haven't read any of the Sarkeesian threads. ;)

Seriously though, you can't imagine why some people think it's kind of a waste of talent, money, and time to be spent on the *FIFTH* cinematic ludonarrative-dissonant cover-shooter?

Making this game isn't cheap. Far from it. The money, time, talent, and thereby risk could easily have gone into something more new and fresh.

That's reasonable.

Why are they making a sequel to their most critically and commercially successful franchise? This makes no sense!

Hopefully its better than UC3... I hope they don't trek too far down the nongame route that UC3 was charting.

And what, exactly, is this non-game route of which you speak? Greater character development? Deeper symbolism? A stronger cinematic basis? Superior boss fights? Less emphasis on repetitive gunplay? Greater context sensitivity? Dynamic brawls?

NervousXtian

Thought Emoji Movie was good. Take that as you will.
Awesome, though I hope they don't use all the horsepower to just make it better looking.

Give me a better exploration experience. Give me more secrets to uncover, puzzles, open areas, and make things more interactive.

Loved 2 and 3, and this is the game I want a PS4 to play.

Which is exactly the same thing done by those "cookie cutter" shooters he decries. In those ways Uncharted's campaign isn't very far from a third person COD with bits where you watch your main character jump around for you.

Greater context sensitivity, Stronger sense of character development, deeper symbolism, trending away from tired gunplay... Not much, simply everything it did.

Press forward for feels gameplay, unreplayable due to half (maybe even more) of the game being things that aren't skill checking you in anyway shape or form (or don't scale at all, like their "puzzles").

UC2 has a much, much, much better balance of combat scenarios and fluff (and the combat scenarios are generally more interesting, and usually have the option for stealth if your into skipping scenarios via stealth). Also UC2 has the fast-forward mode which is handy as well.

Here is my perspective on the comments on Justin Richmond: I think they're unfair. I looked at his LinkedIn and it was the first title he directed. Previously, he worked on the great UC2 multiplayer (until they ruined it).

The UC2 MP balance change was a boneheaded move, which could have been forgivable had he quickly changed it back. However, he decided to stick to his guns and keep things that way. Horrible decision. Man, UC2's MP was probably one of my most loved MP games of all time.

I mean, I'll most likely really enjoy the SP in this just as I did in UC3, but when you've seen much better, it's hard to accept lesser things.

I just want bigger, more open environments.

And am I the only one that much prefered Uncharted: Drake's Fortune to 2 & 3? Yeah probably. :p

I know a few people who like it the most out of the series and I have no idea why. Maybe the setting/scenario?

Uncharted 2 did almost everything better IMO

Looking forward to it, still can't help but be a bit disappointed. I would have liked a new franchise, but I can also understand Sony wanting to get Uncharted onto the PS4 ASAP given that it is their second largest selling franchise after GT.

It'd be cool if we got to play as both Drakes, serving both as a prequel and sequel to the Uncharted trilogy. Kind of like what Days of Future Past is doing with the X-Men trilogy. Can't wait! ^_^

Maybe let us play as Elena too. ; )

Wow, you've even got me there. I thought Uncharted 2 was very, very good and improved on everything from the first game.

And I'm the sort of crazy person who thinks Mass Effect and Assassin's Creed were the best games in their respective series and every sequel was increasingly more and more terrible.

No. As far as I'm concerned, Uncharted was the best in the series, followed closely by 3.
Then comes Golden Abyss with Uncharted 2 bringing up the rear.

I'll be curious to see what direction this new game goes in... it could be the first major exclusive I'll actually give a damn about.

I'll happily take another Uncharted game. It will look bonkers. Let's hope that the game jumps back and forth between Sir Francis Drake and Nathan Drake.

It takes a long time to make a game. If Uncharted 4 is a 2015 release I think the next one won't be coming till 2017

Edit: it's what happens when you're still tied to a ps3 game after the ps4 has launched
