Uncharted (PS4) announced, developed by protozoans and Druckmann's evil karma

So we might have two similar games by the end of next year (The Order which is shaping up to be extremely similar and the next Uncharted)... Well Sony...

The latter is what I felt when I beat Lazarovic, my feeling at beating Talbot was more like "that's it?". I beat Lazarovic by realising that the optimal tactic actually was the closest thing to the sane reaction to being trapped in a room with a near-bulletproof psychopath. I beat Talbot because I A'ed to awesome enough times.

Maybe Lazarovic would have been more impressive had I not fought that exact same fight using that exact same tactic in Halo 2 and Gears of War and Oblivion and Fallout 3 and Knights of the Old Republic and Spiderman 2 and Half-Life 2 and Halo: Reach... you get the picture.

The new IP obsessed people are some of the most annoying gamers out there. Even more when it's in the AAA space and a new IP just means another 1st or 3rd person shooter with the same variation of RPG or stealth elements we've seen a thousand times over.

You mean like The Last of Us & Beyond? :p

I'm moist at the thought of Naughty Dog on PS4. I dont care what they make. I'll support them, day one.

Uncharted is certainly a divisive series... But I'm excited! I'm probably in the minority who like "cinematic" games ;)

So they have the power now to push the at the bare minimum the original non cartoony Elena render?

As opposed to the Talbot fight that's been in every brawler and game with QTE's ever?

Not an asshole.
I hope it pushes forward from where TLOU left off. Fewer enemies with better AI with a more realistic feel. Make me care when I kill a person, make it feel justified and real, and less like I'm just shooting the same character model for the 200th time.

That would complete go against the pulp action.adventure Indiana Jones thing they are going for.

Let's not shoehorn in such heavy handed themes where they don't belong please.

The bad guys are just bad guys in Uncharted and that's fine.

Well tlou is indeed just a tps with some rpg and stealth mechanic in slower pacing...

And beyond is basically evolution from heavy rain with options for branching story removed for a more linear and controlled story. It might as well be a sequel of heavy rain gamrplay wise.

The desert where you were on rails and pushed the left stick forward ultimately reducing the interactivity of that sequence to its lowest possible level?

Yeah so good.

Also the contextual fight stuff was good visually, but mechanically you were doing the same shit you were doing in every other game, mashing square and occasionally pressing triangle.

And if you call that a boss fight well we better just stop right now.

you gotta be kidding...The desert scene was the highlight of the damn game.

I don't care about mechanics or interactivity in that kind of scene. The scene was incredibly emotional.Just trudging through the desert and the desperation, music , atmosphere were unparalleled.

Some people here really have unimaginable expectations from games.

So... you want more Last of Us?

No, I want UC4. I never played TLOU and it wasn't for me. I need the UC "Now, what?" paranoia rather than the survival horror fear. SH games aren't for me.

I'll add realistic cloth physics and MGS3's medic system. I want Drake scavenging for obscure plants to make medicine. Seeing as how this is a PS4 exclusive and we're talking about Gods, the cloth physics aka Fabric Tech (totally made up word, pardon me DeveloperGAF) need to be phenomenal. Shirts need to tear at the perfect angle and I will be pissed if they don't. I want to see bullet and stab wounds throughout the game. If Drake takes 150 grenade hits then there needs to be facial scars by the end of the game. The Gods need to explain Drake's endless endurance and strength. Is there a post on this? If so, I'll take this off my wish list.

I think the person narrating is the enemy in this uncharted. Some thing tells me they aren't just going to remove drake out of the equation and reboot the series.

What happens if we don't play as Drake at all, but the "villain" instead who comes into conflict with Drake and co? *mind boggled* It'd be awesome.

But then what endless armies of bullet sponges would we shoot down?

It'd be like the opposite of Die Hard. We'd always be shooting at Drake and crew, but they would always escape. Just barely. ;)

Yeah, idk. Maybe there won't be much shooting in this one. Nah, they wouldn't change the game that much.

looks a lot like Vasco da Gama Route to India indeed. If so, it will be amazing for me as a Portuguese dude to see some story around the discovery and mapping of the world and maybe raise some awareness to the world that the Portuguese mapped more than half of the globe along with the Spaniards and the English.

If it's about Vasco da Gama route to India, i think the game is set around the "ilha dos amores" or Loves Island, described in "Lusiadas" as a Paradise full of beautiful women created by the goddess Venus to reward Vasco da Gama and theirs sailors, after accomplish their goal of reach India.

I dont think it's the gameplay segment that was awful, its the disappointing leadup to it. The teaser trailer, the box cover, lots of promoting art showed that scene. What I assume people expected was an gameplay segment that was new, funm, epic, challenging, whatever. What we got was just a interactive cutscene, like you said.

Remember Uncharted 2's box cover? Teaser gameplay? All involving a train, which was what the game started with, restarted with half-way through, and led to the most epic and fun parts of U2, that 3 chapter long train section.

Then, you clearly didn't listen to Naughty Dog's promotion of it and just looked at the pictures. They made it VERY clear that it was going to be a cinematic sequence of Drake alone in the desert. Don't get me wrong, I love the train, but ultimately it is just gameplay. The desert is so much more. It was symbolism, it was everything Drake had faced until that point, and it was everything Drake had yet to face. The Desert represented Marlowe and Talbott and even Elena to an extent. It was the weight of the destiny he placed upon himself by calling himself a Drake as well as the weight of who he was before Sir. Francis became his life. If you let go of the thumbstick, you would notice that he falls to his knees. Even that is symbolic that Drake has reached his limit, and you, the player are his motivation. You aren't just watching Drake go through this ordeal. You are his guide, you are his motivation, you are with him. A cutscene would not have done that sequence justice, nor would an open-world map to explore. All the Video Game tropes were put away to hammer home the symbolic nature of the desert. And free-roam, shootouts, and even making it a cutscene would have not done that sequence justice.

Emotions?

Pfft.

How could it be a desperate anything when the how sequence is linear and the same thing happens every time?

All I was doing was pushing a slow moving Drake along a predefined path for a few minutes?

I will give you that the scene where he collapsed and the hallucination of Sully inspired him to pick himself up was touching, but come the fuck on. It wasn't deep, it wasn't emotional.

It was just boring.

I can't believe a developer can literally have a player do nothing for an inordinate amount of time and get praised for it.

My I would have felt these emotions if I actually had some control over where Drake was going.

Unbelievable.

All i want from UC4 is for them to build off TLOU gameplay while adding more stuff.
Now they don't have to take everything from TLOU but better AI , more wide open areas , better stealth and hand to hand combat etc etc .
Since this also on next gen i want more type of enemies , destruction etc etc .

So are we assuming this one will not be about Nate Drake? I could see that being the case, with it just called "Uncharted" and probably wanting it to feel like a "new" game for a new gen.

And you completely miss the point of the desert. Instead of just typing it out again, I will refer you to my earlier post about the symbolic nature of the desert.

Fair enough.

I'm probably just transferring my massive disappointment with the big PS4 launch titles onto UC4.

Anyway, I'm out because I don't want to let my negativity bring down those who are genuinely excited for UC4.

They may still be thinking of a name for it. It might just be a younger version.

QTE? Pardon my failing memory but I don't remember ever having to go back and try again when I failed to punch Talbot. I seem to remember the fight continuing on despite my occasional screw up.

I also don't remember pressing random buttons to make pre-rendered actions play out.

Next you're gonna tell me that Arkham City's combat is just like any combo-based beat-em-up.

I bet the reason developers made superfluous button mashing QTEs is to address these kinds of complaints and make you feel like you are doing something when you really aren't.

How would you execute this scene then ?

Its masterfully created.Right before this scene there was a huge gun fight and a plane crash. What the fuck do you expect the character to be capable of doing in such harsh climate and after suffering so much damage?

The brilliance of this scene is solo drake facing his peril. Alone with no one to help.Contemplating his outrageous obsession with "adventure" This scene comes after elena confronts him about why he is doing this when he practically already "won" and beat Marlowe.

All along while looking for sully his god father/mentor.

Fucking brilliant scene.I don't even need to mention the visuals. Its a personal scene and I loved it.

If you want games that keep you on your toes ALL the time play fighting games. You can't catch a breath there.

Halo 5's announcement was just Halo, and every Zelda game initially gets announced as simply The Legend of Zelda. This isn't too out of the ordinary for a teaser.

I don't know. Hitman Absolution was such a memorable game...

...

Okay. Things could be worse than another Uncharted.

It's just old age and losing my marbles in my case, I played it not long ago. one of PS+'s weaker offerings I admit.

A little disappointed that ND isn't starting a new console generation with a new IP as they've done up to this point with all three previous generations.

Sign of the times? People expect Uncharted 4 so ND is required to make one?

If they're only appealing to existing fans, why not make a grand HD sequel to Jak & Daxter? That would sell me on the PS4 more than UC4 will.

Admittedly it comes through more when you replay it because it does a good job hiding it the first time, but many of the interactions in that fight are entirely scripted and play out the same every time. It especially sticks out on crushing where there's no button prompts so all you can do is trial-and-error your way through the QTE moments (or fail and either die or have to do them again).

All the Uncharted games were good, UC2 was great due to the best story and pacing in the series. It was a perfect mix of shootouts, story sequences, puzzles, and platforming. You were never bored and the only time it got a bit tedious was some of the longer shootouts towards the end. It was the perfect roller coaster ride, right up there with Half-Life 2 and it's episodes. That's what they need to focus on for this one, just get back to the formula they perfected for UC2. Don't try to make it into an open world game, or add unnecessary RPG elements. Go for another IP if that's what they want to do, like with TLofU. Uncharted is Uncharted.

Let me try to explain it a bit better. I just want to draw the combat in a little bit closer to where there are fewer enemies but the encounters with them are more interesting because they are smarter and will surprise you. I want them to feel dangerous. I still want it to be an awesome Indiana Jones adventure : )

I have played Uncharted 3 several times and no two fights have been the same. I'm not seeing your QTE argument here.

If this turns out to be a turd, then yeah they should move on. Otherwise giving people what they want is a good thing.

Exactly. And GTTV has a knack for getting all these juicy "announcements" but usually they never contain actual footage or any real information about the game. All sizzle and no steak. I don't even get hyped for those events anymore.

Because the jak fanbase isn't nearly as big as the uncharted fanbase. Plus they were gonna make a new jak game but they decided it wasn't the best thing to do.

In that case, I agree with you.

I'm excited! I'll wait to pick up a PS4 when this one is out.

Please ND, give us an excellent multiplayer experience from the get-go. U3 patch 1.18 was extremely welcoming and dealt with a lot of issues regarding gameplay balance, but it came too late in the game's lifecycle. Still, I'm very excited to see what kind of title this will turn out to be with the power of the PS4.
