Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

I wonder if character interact with one another while idling, or if peach fiddles with other characters' clothing. There are a lot of pictures like that, but it could just be Sakurai carefully positioning them for comedic effect
I'm pretty sure that's just for comedic effect. Peach looks like she has a Taunt which makes her examine her ring, and it's very exploitable.

`I'm gonna lean on assist.

Simply because if that is an addition to her move set. That is a very large addition and changing a move set that drastically doesn't really go over well in fighting games. Slight changes sure, but the familiarity is what brings people back to those characters.

Then again sakurai isn't a man of reasonable decisions , so until I play it I assume everyone in the game plays like jiggs.

So now that Sakurai has commented on the number of female newcomers, let's discuss who else we might see.

- Palutena (obviously)
- Medusa (maybe)
- Dixie
- Toon Zelda
- ♀ Pokemon Trainer / Villager
- 1 of Lyn/Lucina/Anna (probably Anna)
- Bayonetta (I hope)

Is there anyone else out there who stands a chance? I can't think of any personally.

Who's the girl next door living in the haunted mansion?

I could see Anna probably being a sticker if they come back.

Playable? That's like a step ahead of me wanting Tharja in the "Not happening" category.

Thank you!

Has Mewtwo's design changed much over the years? I never paid a lot of attention to it.

I think Ashley is one of the top three contenders for the next Wario slot - but I very much doubt we'll be seeing another Wario character any time soon.

And for Fire Emblem, Lucina is the only real contender for females, and even then she's not a shoe-in by any stretch. A lot of competition for the remaining slot or slots (Ike, Chrom, Lucina, Robin...)

You're welcome! And yeppers, he has. I wrote about it a while back.

Anyhow, I've noticed Mewtwo's design has changed throughout time, a design change I really don't care for. I still like Mewtwo regardless, but I feel a lot of Mewtwo's charm has diminished due to making him less serious looking and more skinny. Instead of taking pictures from Sugimori, the movies and other things, I went ahead and cranked up Dolphin emulator to the max settings.

Here below you'll see Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness (Gamecube) right next to Pokemon Battle Revolution (Wii) which is how Mewtwo is portrayed now. Clearly you'll see Battle Revolution has far superior graphics, however I'm not here to discuss that as the former is using an upgraded Stadium model. I'm merely talking about the art style used, Mewtwo just...his face got pretty weird to say the least.

Thankfully, thanks to Melee, Mewtwo has a much better model in the classic style which I can actually show.

My main point is although Mewtwo is pretty much my favorite Pokemon along with Rayquaza, them removing features and altering it loses a lot of what made me like the design in the first place. It feels very inferior, and more stereotypical modernization design that wasn't needed.

If I could choose I'd take Lyn, but Anna is the only character who has been in every Fire Emblem game and IntSys highlighted that fact when promoting Awakening. I think Anna has the best odds of any Fire Emblem newcomer for that reason. She would be an evergreen choice, someone who could represent the franchise past, present, and into the future.

Jaeger, your avatar is giving me that mad itch for Mewtwo.

I'm sayin'. If Mewtwo makes it back in, I wont ask for a damn thing else.

Neorice did a great job on that avatar, he even got his head the right shape. It's classic Mewtwo.

Neorice is my hero. Speaking of which, I have something else I'd like to request of ya, if you are free, Neorice. Just let me know, sir.

You aren't wrong, but I'd chalk alot of that up to Sugimori's design and style changing so much overtime. Alot of Pokemon have changed shapes a bit. I can get a bit more into detail once I get home from work.

Such a shame that a lot of Pokemon sort of took a hit as a result. Also was not a fan of how the coloring was handled on some of the classic Pokemon. Flareon's tail isn't orange anymore :/

Gen III and Gen IV changed a lot of classic Pokemon's design and colors. Charmander is another one that changed. In the case of Mewtwo, his head shrunk and he got skinnier, his facial features also changed. The same thing happened to Red. He use to have a 'red' coat but now it's more pinkish and his hair is kind of a worn out color now. They actually were changed instead of just his shapes changing, as Red is wearing a different outfit all together.

Robin can be a female too though, if that male Wii Fit trainer really was a costume.

Speaking realistically, that still doesn't give her better odds of beating more important characters like Chrom, Lucy, and Robin as a potential newcomer.

Representation can really only go so far, when your up against the newest lords from the game that saved the franchise.

What if Mario's down aerial and down B became jump-based moves?

Down-aerial has a larger hitbox and will bounce Mario into the air akin to a third jump. If it hits an opponent from above, they take a brief stun and there's the classic "+100" effect. Has minor meteor smash properties.

Down special requires more precise movement. On the ground it's his classic spin move from Melee, but in the air it also serves as a stomp-jump. The difference is that it's a "+200" effect and will either cause the Footstool Jump effect to occur to enemies, or send them into helplessness altogether.

As in "Heathcliff"
I think the Phantom is quite obviously gonna be either an Assist Trophy or Phantom Zelda as a new character introduced by a sneaky Sakurai hint. Either way, the roster is looking better and better with every reveal!

Whoa, I like your design. It actually popped out. Please keep it update every time characters got revealed.

Does anyone feel that Smash should completely drop the text underneath the characters in the character select screen? Just keep it to face icons. It just makes my OCD part of my head act up.

The bottom part on the Wii U version shows the character and the text there. I imagine the 3DS version would have that area on the touch screen.

I can't say I've ever thought about this, but it seems silly. No reason to make you focus on something else just for a name if you don't know who a character is.

To the people suggesting Impa replacing Sheik, with all the designs in the game coming from TP
unless they are previews for Zelda WiiU
, that would mean creating yet another TP-style design for a character that wasn't there. I know they did this with Sheik, but would they do it again? I think Impa's chances died when the Zelda characters were revealed to not have Skyward Sword designs.

Also, my predictions

- Zelda with new Down B (Phantom), no transformation
- Sheik as own character, no transformation
- New character inherits Down B transform gimmick
- No Toon Zelda, but maybe a Tetra

Are there really going to be 35 playable characters this go around? Awesome if so. Hopefully DLC will allow for even more down the road.
