New Evil Within concept art leaks

I should really stay out of these threads lol... spoiling myself at this point.

With chainsaws.

I'm cautiously optimistic about the game, but expecting it to be more action-oriented horror, like RE4. Hopefully I'm wrong, and it's more survival horror.

That would be a bit of a relief for me. I want Mikami not shying away from good action mechanics.

totally guessing here. I was hoping for a March release, but since we haven't heard anything yet, maybe June or August? I doubt they'd want to compete with the heavy hitters in the fall.

From the looks of it, you won't see this game being released in the near future

My money is on fall/winter, the best months to release horror games as well

I had no idea that was even on the cards. Is it still the case? Makes me think of Innsmouth from Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth, which was an amazing unsettling horror game.

I'd like to see this set in just one claustrophobic location, but I did get vibes at the end of one of the early trailers that the setting might be pretty large, as the guy looks out over an enormous unnatural gorge cutting him off from escape.

Dusk Golem has been doing a fantastic "trace" of all the work done for this game, a lot of the concept art seemed to point to a kind of dilapidated seaside village, and that the team did a lot of research on
insects or something
for the enemy designs.

I can't wait to see the monster variety for this. A big reason why RE 4 still hasn't been matched is the sheer amount of creatures and scenarios the game throws at the gamer.

Does anyone know why Shinji Mikami is working on this at a developer not named Platinum Games? This confuses me a lot. What's the story behind this?

I'm sure someone can explain better, but technically Vanquish was developed by his own studio too, contracted by Platinum. They disbanded, he relocated and founded a new one (Tango).

Given the scale they are going for in some of those pics I would be surprised if that game comes out in 2014, hope I'm wrong tho

The Last of Us comparisons are understandable, but I will point out all concept art here was drawn 2-3 months before TLOU came out.

And there wasn't enough material of TLoU to draw inspiration from 2-3 months before release? I mean, I'm totally cool with it, but come on.

Would have preferred if the game took place solely in the asylum, but still excited due to the lineage behind this title.

Oh wow, I didn't notice this in this image until I saw it was labeled "spike trap".

Look above him! Uh oh.

Many of these images are very TLOU-esque, and that can't be a bad thing.

lol some of those are straight rips from TLOU.

The game has been in development for close to 5 years. The concept art is usually drawn first as well, making it impossible for Mikami to be influenced. If anything The Road is a major influence on both games.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.

Oh hell no, after seeing the artwork and all the different locations i'm even more hyped now.

How the fuck did I not know about this game until last night? I remember hearing about job postings for "Mikami horror game" like 2 or 3 years ago now that I think about it, but I had no idea it had a name and was announced. This looks incredible. Resident Evil 4 is one of favorite games of all time, top 5 easily. This instantly became my most anticipated game.

It's just my personal opinion. I respect the artwork, but have always enjoyed the tighter confines that an asylum would bring.

I see the ideal balance as 80% confined areas, with the larger sandbox areas sprinkled around to give you brief breaks from the stress.

Nice to see some outside locations. Didn't expect that after the trailer. Looks comparable to TLoU in some of those images for sure. That's a good thing duh. Definitely looking to buy this.

Is this coming to PC?

Awesome, sold.

PC and PS4 will be shizzle.

As for my wish for about 20% open areas vs. 80% confined, they could throw in some holy-shit-epic moments in those open areas as well. I wouldn't complain.

2014 is the return of classic SH w/ sparkly new gen bonus. We've got this, Dying Light, and I'm also really looking forward to Alien: Isolation after watching that trailer on Gamersyde.

Love that 1979 retro-future look they're going with. Total SH like the original movie.

That makes me believe there are similar evasion QTEs as in RE4. Hopefully not.

i never really minded them, but they were never the best part of the game. the trial and error method i always thought it added tension to the game, which was great, but frustrating

I usually don't either, but in RE4 the time limit was far too strict.
